It was Friday morning and I almost fell off my bed squealing when I saw I received a text from Mateo. However, my enthusiastic outburst was cut short when I realised he texted only to ask if I was still able to pick his girlfriend, Kaylee, up for his match. Typing up a quick reply, I hit send and get dressed. I put on a red flannel and black high waisted jeans with combat boots before grabbing my set of keys.
My phone ding's again signalling a notification and Mateo send's me Kaylee's number. I text her asking if it's okay if we take the subway since Bianca had a doctor's appointment and couldn't drive us, but hopefully would be there for the end of the game. Waiting for her reply I take out a pop tart from the fridge and nibble on it.
She replies and we agree to meet near the bus stop since, surprisingly enough, she lives on the same street as I do. Its weird cause I've never seen her before but she corrects me stating that she just moved here from Cali.
I whistle a random tune while making my way downstairs, even though I'm about to hang out with my crush's girlfriend, I wasn't in that bad of a mood. I have a feeling today's gonna be a good day.
She came a minute or so after I did and I already had a picture of her in my head where she'd be this blond nasty, mean, fake wannabe barbie chick, stereotypical I know, I know, but hey. No judging. anyways, looking at her, I realise I totally missed the mark.
Kaylee was a redhead with elbow-length hair which was even curlier than mine. She stood a good foot or 2 shorter than me and had black cat glasses. She even had cute little freckles around her nose which instantly made me envy her. She wore a black crop top and army green cargo pants.
Her eyes though were by far the most captivating thing about her. One was an ocean blue colour while the other was hazel.
"Hey, um, are you Cierra?"
I smile at her and reply, "Yeah, and you must be Kaylee right? it's nice to meet you."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Turns out I was completely wrong about Kaylee, the bitch had the audacity to be breathtakingly beautiful AND be a sweetheart. I hated it. How am I supposed to compete with that?!? I tried hating her and being cold the first 10 minutes but when she mentioned her aunt owning a cupcake store, I crumbled. what? cake is my weakness.
Even though she did talk about how she met Mateo at a family friend's wedding and how cute he was and all that crap, only cause I asked since it seemed rude if I didn't, I could see why he liked her. She had no filter and it shows. Not gonna lie, kinda admire her for that. We instantly clicked and agreed to hang out later on.
Kaylee and I showed up at school, about 15 minutes to 9 which was actually before the game started and the school was already booked. There were people everywhere, with our school colours being worn and people placing bets, we walk in to be greeted by a very enthusiastic looking Logan.
'bruh, I haven't seen you in like, forever." he states exaggeratedly while squeezing the life out of me. I let out a hefty laugh, hugging him back. "Ugh, I know right, too busy with your girlfriend to talk to me now is it?" I tease him with a smirk. "'soon-to-be girlfriend you mean, and aw is my bestie jealous? issokay babes, I bet some ogre here wouldn't mind dating your annoying ass" he winks at me before looking behind me at Kaylee who looked super awkward at the moment.
"Oh, um yeah, Lo, this is Mat's girlfriend, Kaylee, Kaylee this is my best friend Logan." I introduce them and as soon as I mention Kaylee's relation to Mat, Logan's eyebrows shoot up at me in a questioning manner as if he were asking me if I was alright. I give him a subtle nod and smile.
They exchange their hello's and Kaylee pulls out her phone before stating Mat wanted to see her before the match and told us to save her a seat. As Kaylee hastily leaves our vision Logan looks worriedly at me, "You sure you're alright yeah? she isn't some psycho wannabe barbie bitch is she?" I laugh again and reply "Nope, but I thought that too. anyway, let's get some popcorn shall we, Lo?
"We're getting caramel I do not care," Logan declares as we walk into the line.
"Pfft, as if, Caramel sucks, cheese is soo much better."
Logan pretends to gag and I nudge his shoulder before rolling my eyes, "Fine, how about we get salted instead?"
"Eh, not the best but can't expect good taste from you, Rodriguez, can I? salted it is," he states to the guy working.
We get the popcorn and walk-in sync in the busy and if not more than ever, crowded school, towards the field, through the hallway.
"So, how was it?" I casually ask Lo, making light conversation since the last time I saw him was last week since he went to another state for a music audition.
Yeah, I might have forgotten to mention Logan's a rockstar.
okay, I may of exaggerated when I said rockstar, but he's a songwriter/performer and a good one of that too.
"really good if I say so myself, they said they'd get back to me in a while. But my chances seem legit so cheers for that." He says, a smile on his lips, looking ahead.
"Ayee, I knew you could do it loser, lookie you such a big superstar now eh?" I joke, "Promise to remember me when you become rich and famous?"I ask, scruffling his blond curls playfully.
"Oh, piss off, " Logan loudly laughs, shoving me away from him, "I'm sorry who are you?" He questions, giving me an innocent look.
"Oh, hardy har, screw you, man, honestly." I snort at him. "Very much ladylike aren't you? oh and guess what I preformed for them?" He urges me.
"Hm, probably another love letter for Bianca I assume?"
"Song's are the new language of love, my dear friend." He replies with, whilst tapping my nose.
"you're a goner, mate, I can't even with you," I announce
"She loves me too, I feel it. And we're going on a date next week." Logan says smirking at me.
"oh really now? and does she know?"
"Shhh, I'm working on it. She's coming for the game isn't she?"
I chuckle at him, he stops on tracks waiting for my reply.
"Yeah, she's had a doctors appointment but she said she'll try to come before halftime so let's get a move on shall we Romeo?"
Muttering something under his breath and rolling his eyes at me, we reach the field.
"Let's go sit there." I point at the top of the bleacher near us since it had a good view of the game. I spot Kaylee a couple of seconds later and wave her over to us.
"Heya again" she smiles, sitting next to me before popping popcorn into her mouth.
"Ooo, I love salted, gimme!" Kay exclaims, grabbing the bucket from my hands.
"Welp. Looks like Cierra isn't the only one with bad taste" Logan distastefully says, whilst sitting on my left, eying Kaylee with disapproval on his face.
"You sir can shut the fuck up" Kaylee squints her eyes at Lo, her mouth full of popcorn before looking back ahead as I chuckle at logans reaction.
A few minutes before the game starts, a crowd, bigger than our normal ones, starts forming under us, or more specifically under our bleachers.
"The heck's going down there?" I think out loud.
"I'm not sure probably some catfight or sum." Logan shrugs before leaning over trying to steal a handful of popcorn from Kay who seems focused on keeping the bucket away from him and hitting his hand when he got close.
"Ouch, that was mean. sharing is caring."
Kaylee sticks her tongue out at him, "too bad I don't care then isn't it?", and abruptly stands up. "Imma see why the game hasn't started yet, you coming?" She asks me. I nod and walk behind her with logan hurriedly following me.
The waves of students caused me to lose sight of Kaylee and if that wasn't bad enough I lost logan too. Everyone seemed to be rushing to a certain direction in panic and...fear?
