Chapter 32 - Chapter 1 [Hope Anew] (Page 26)

Soon enough Shadow left leaving me alone with my thoughts running each other through. One thing was sure though, today is the day of Reckoning. I sigh softly and looked up at the ceiling. Attempting to get it off my mind and since I was already done cleaning myself I got up and slid into my new set of clothing. It was one of the nicest ones I had in my possession considering what day this is, I thought it would be best if I looked presentable.

I then walked back towards my room to grab my things before I went to my fathers bakery to pay him a visit. I looked around as I walked through the corridors with soft hushed conversations, even Nimbus seemed to be more gloomy than usual. I entered back into my room where Sora was already gone, I walked over to my nightstand and geared up. I put on my belt, sheathed my sword, placed on what armour I had and took up a backpack preparing for the worst like everyone else.

I looked at myself in the mirror wearing a chest plate, shoulder and knee guards, gauntlets and a helmet. I shook my head to clear my thoughts and walked off closing the door behind me. I walked through the hallways of our place then through the alleyways before emerging into the streets. I looked around seeing that despite how lively the place looked everyone had a grim look on their faces.

I walked down the path to my fathers Bakery as a soft breeze blew across the place turning a few heads unsure as to its meaning. As I got further to my fathers bakery the people around lessened. The shop was out here because the rent was cheaper and was normally busy but with the upcoming ceremony not many people were out and about here.

Soon the bakery was in sight and I went inside, the door swinging open as I stepped in. "River, I'd never thought you would return to see me especially with the ceremony taking place so soon." A voice grunted as he stood up from behind the counter and looked at me.

"Well you are my father so I thought spending some time with you before it begins wouldn't hurt" I said closing the door behind me and walking towards the counter."Need any help with… whatever your doing?" I asked

He smiled at me gently "Nah, I'm good I doubt there will be any customers coming considering the day it is." He said as his gaze seemed to glaze over. "I wonder what your mother would think of her accomplishments killing such a monster single handedly. She stopped more from learning how to do the same saving us although it would mean it is now time for the 'ceremony' to happen. I do hope it isn't you and your friends considering the one hell of a journey you need to go through if you are chosen."

I shook my head slightly "I didn't dare think it would happen but it would be best to prepare for the worst just in case." I muttered gripping the pommel of my sword "Although I may not want to be chosen I'm sure there are others out there who are itching to be chosen just for the glory they can attain.

I sat down on one of the chairs and looked around, the once lively place now as silent as a grave. The stone ovens hearth was charred black with a few resilient embers glowing through the ashened heap they were buried in. The few lit lamps emitted a soft glow across the shop, the tables and chairs gained tall, lanky shadows clawing at the floor and walls desperately to escape.
