I patted her shoulder as an attempt to offer her some comfort "There, there, I'm sure it will all work out soon enough." I told her putting on a smile.
She sighed slightly "I really hope it does but regardless, hope is a very fragile thing and I know that from experience… we all do…" she leaned against me as she waited till it was our turn drumming her fingers against her tights. After what seemed like forever it was finally time for us to go up. I patted Star's head, gesturing for her to come along as the rest made their way towards the makeshift podium. Each footstep that reverberated through the area made her cringe slightly.
She looked up to me then towards the podium closing her eyes and probably uttering a silent prayer to whatever god or goddess that would listen. Soon enough we were all at the top in a line we looked at each other to see who would go forwards. Surprisingly Star was the one who stepped forward and extended her hand towards the Phoenix gem. The moment she touched it blazed a bright golden flare radiating out from the gem the crimson flames parading across the podium towards us was cold not warm.
It seemed to be giving out the magic stored within it to us as it was absorbed by our bodies. As it did so it blew away the guards like they were made out of paper mache despite their full plated armour. It seemed that only we could look into the supernova as the rest had to shield their eyes. After a few seconds of glory the flow of magic stopped the gem now grey devoid of any remaining power. We looked at each other with grave looks, one will have to fall and another will be downed by Gale, something no one wanted. Now only a single question remains. Which of us is the lost descendant of Exousía the King of Ancients?
I turned to look at those behind me who were still trying to recover themselvesI knew that many were excited to be able to attain this power but we were not one of them. I turned to look back at the rest and Ruby who was helping Star onto her feet "Well that went well" she said with heavy sarcasm in her words. She patted down her long pants nodding in appreciation at Ruby who patted her shoulder and scanned us and then her hands clenching and unclenching them.
"I feel lighter, stronger and more agile as well" she said looking at the crystal "So this is the power of the Phoenix gem? It feels slightly underwhelming for such a relic, to be honest I half expected to feel like some sort of super being."
Sora jumped and soared up to the height of a six story building yelping out in surprise "Too high!" As she maneuvered her arms to block the fall but landed unscathed. She looked in surprise at her legs then at the rest "I would not recommend doing that or anything else as we might end up making a fool out of ourselves." She recommended standing upright as the crowd recovered from the blast.
Shadow nodded in agreement as the crowd gets up staring at us for a couple of seconds before letting out a wild roar of excitement, fists and weapons reaching for the heavens. "Long live the Chosen Ones!" They chanted Shadow was the first to react this time breaking into a grin filled with nothing "Yeah! Long live me!" He cried out as the rest of us joined in on the biggest act we had ever performed, waving at the crowd faking excitement and trying our best to look grand.
Eventually we were whisked off to the castle in the center of the walled city sitting in a carriage that bounced merrily along the cobblestone paths. I looked to Sora who was opposite to me, then Star who was asleep to my left, Shadow to my right and Nimbus in front of him, the last seat was taken by Grusk.
