Chapter 34 - Chapter 1 [Hope Anew] (Page 28)

I patted her head as I looked up, today there were no clouds obstructing the view of the prismatic blue skies. Almost as if the gods are looking down upon us eager to see who will be the hero of the land, the salvation of the fallen. Long shadows of the buildings and the monument were casted over us. The blade held by the warriors seemed to grow wickedly long and sharp despite them being the ones who brought us time to evacuate within the walls.

On the base of it was written as the last stand of The order of the Gods, the loyal knights of the immortal king Cronos who sat upon the throne of Dies Mories. By his side was the keeper, a being made by the ancients to oversee the worlds who became an ally of Cronos the conqueror of time. It is the one who protects the kingdom with its insights but was claimed by death 20 years before the fall.

So far it is unknown if Dies Irae still stands but it has held out against the invasion even till a generation ago before the communication tunnels were destroyed. Those knights were the best trained in the whole world and only knew the sword their whole life till they could fight no more from age. They held the lines against the waves of darkness for 3 months, fighting to the last man standing. A feat to behold even to other worlds which have now been cut off from us.

No two knights wore the same armour as it had been tailored to their liking and desires as it will serve them in life, death, war and after retirement. They were the dream that everyone wanted to achieve but only very few managed to do so. Fighting beside them are the GodHunters beings said to be made by death herself to slay the gods who walked the land to end their violent ways.

For once both forces joined arms to fight, it is said that at times death can be seen on the battlefield reaping the souls of the Voidborn. The gods who walked on the world were all dead, all but Cronos the price paid for being the last on the list was to be blinded though the loss of the keeper. Their souls were sent into the inmattirium to become true gods. Many accepted it but a few like Cronos resisted it.

Cronos said that he will sit on the throne so he can suffer like everyone else so he will not forget the agony of the mortal world. It is said that after the battle none survived yet each of them had no wounds on their backs. Even in facing their end they plunged headfirst into it without the thought of retreat. It has been said that Cronos has been rebuilding the order while fighting at the frontlines to protect his kingdom. He said that there was no cost to great in order to save his kingdom so he fights under the ashen moon.

It is said in the battle mistress death has been overwhelmed so now her daughter continues her work. In the battlefield the only thing to be heard is the ringing of metal, the splintering of bones, cries of pain and last breaths of GodHunters and Knights. The monument showed renown knights of the order of the Gods and the GodHunters charging against the Voidborn.

After their stand it was said the magic nation of Elementra summoned upon an army of stone soldiers. They were sculpted from the earth beneath our feet and given life to fight these machines of war were massive but few in numbers. They slaughtered Voidborn as that was their only purpose taking blow after blow stubbornly pushing onwards missing parts of themselves. They would only stop after being completely immobilised or destroyed, when unable to fight they would destroy themselves in waves of magical energy shredding the Voidborn.

They only listen to their king who has passed and the being known as RedHood the bearer of soul and light made as the commander of these warriors. It is said that even till now these stone warriors roam the lands destroying all Voidborn in sight. Their commander RedHood has retreated into the ruins of Kurtal, the ancient city of the now extinct race of Zortal. A once mighty kingdom fallen long ago to a calamity from the attempted summoning of an Ancient and trying to bend it to their will.
