Chapter 14 - Chapter 1 [Hope Anew] (Page 8)

Although as much as I wanted to avoid it, all eyes were on me wondering where I have been for the past few weeks. As much as I dreaded and hated it I could not tell a lie, not to them who has been a second family for me.

With a sigh, I opened my mouth and told them of my story, "My mother passed while fighting a Voidborn who got on top of the wall. The time I was gone from here was me mourning her passing." With that I felt my mouth clamp shut my eyes looking away from them.

There was a soft sound of wood dragging along dirt and a faint rustle. The

rest of them seem to be still processing this, I felt thin and scaly yet warm arms wrap around me from behind.

"I know you probably dont like me saying this but it's all I can think of… I'm so sorry for your loss." Star whimpers softly as she nuzzles me on my neck from behind. "It must be painful for you, losing someone you care so much about."

"Thanks" I told her down to her head leaning against my neck and ruffling her hair. She didn't mind this even after how long she spent brushing her black, straight and long hair. "It means quite a lot coming from someone in my second family."

Shadow placed a hand on my shoulder "That's nice to hear about us being another family but still, sorry for your loss I can't imagine losing a mother as I never had one who cared for me. Regardless I'm sure she's someplace better than this dump we all live in, after all she did save us by stopping that thing from passing the walls."

Silently Nimbus had stood up and walked over to me, she placed her delicate looking hand of hers over mine. "Tide, you may not like what I say but listen, it's no use crying over spilt milk. It's what she does, all warriors know that they might die young and so are prepared for it. It's her passion, after all she did teach you the art of a sword, the art she learnt for this very thing. The dead are gone but mourning will not help them, to truly honor them we must carry on. No matter what happens to them they will remain in our heart."

I ignored her staying silent, Star leaned over and whispered "She isn't wrong, despite how it may feel insulting." Before going quite again pulling away from my ear, perhaps not liking how I might react to this.
