Chapter 8 - Chapter Seven

{[Jane}]

We stumbled into his apartment, hastily closing the door behind us, not daring to break our desperate kisses for even a second. I bit his lower lip, making him growl in delight as he gripped my hips even tighter.

"Are you sure about this?" he asked, leaning his head against mine.

Out of breath I managed a nod. He took my hand and led me to his bedroom.

I flopped down onto his bed, watching him as he slowly peeled his shirt over his head before pushing me down. He towered over me as he traced soft kisses down my neck, my shoulder, slowly making his way to my cleavage.

"Matt," I whispered, making him stop and look at me.

"What's wrong? Should I stop?" he asked, slowly moving his free hand to my face.

I smiled, drawing him back to me. "Just... Be gentle, ok?" I asked against his ear.

He smirked and whispered back. "I promise."

I woke the next morning, laying on Matt's cheat wearing nothing but one of his spare t-shirts. He looked so peaceful, already awake and staring at the ceiling. His long black hair rustled in just the right places, the faint smoke of a lit cigarette dancing beside him.

"Hi," I greeted shyly. I didn't exactly know how to react after last night.

What would his girlfriend say? What if Jake found out?

Panic filled me again, my heart beating in my throat as I struggled to keep calm.

"Jane... Jane... Calm down," he begged, sitting up and drawing me to him. "What's wrong?"

"Tiffany - Jake..." I managed to get out between shallow breaths.

He gently cupped my face, "Will never find out," he assured me.

"Why now? Why haven't you [ever] given any attention to me until now? I've never been more than your best friend, no matter how god damned hard I tried." I went off, pulling away from him, searching for my pants.

"Because I didn't want to lose you. You have no idea how much you mean to me," he said, exhaling loudly as he wiped his face.

"I guess I'll see you around." I excused myself.

"Not staying for breakfast? I was gonna make your favorite," he retorted. I shook my head as I got dressed.

"Thank you, Matt, but I'm drowning in work right now. I seriously have to head on home. Thank you so much for everything," I said, walking up and kissing him goodbye.

He slid his hand in behind my neck, keeping me in place as he deepened the kiss.

"Take care of yourself. You know where to find me," he whispered, letting me go.

"I will," I replied, holding the door in my hand as I looked back at him.

[I'd never forget that day I build up enough guts to introduce you to her - my girlfriend.

I intertwined my hand with Claire as she smiled nervously back at me. I knocked on your apartment door and waited. It wasn't long before I heard the lock sliding back and the door being unlocked.

'Jane,' you said my name with undeniable joy spread across your face.

'Who's this?' you asked, your eyes slowly falling onto our hands.

I could have sworn I heard a soft 'no' escaping your lips as your eyes darted back to mine.

"This is Claire - my girlfriend," I said, nervously turning to her as I rubbed my arm.

"I thought you were... joking," you replied with a nervous giggle.

I leaned closer to you and whispered, "I thought you'd be glad."

You scoffed and moved aside to let us in.

"Don't blame me if I'm not," you growled as you grabbed onto my arm to stop me.

That was the first time ever I sensed raw fear coming from you. You were scared and I didn't know why.]
