MALLORY'S POINT OF VIEW
She's crazy. She's insane. She's a psychopath.
I tried to calm myself down as Abbeigh stood up from the chair that she was seated in.
She crushed my kneecaps. My kneecaps are crushed. I won't be able to walk anymore.
I started to panic as tears began to form under my eyes.
"Oh? What's wrong? I took off the gag, why are you crying?" Abbeigh asked, her voice gentle for someone who just crushed their best friend's kneecaps.
"Abbeigh... why..." I asked, the tears already flowing.
"Why? What do you mean, why?" She asked me back, standing up straight.
"Why are your neighbours like that? Why did you hurt me?" I asked once again.
A creepy smile crept up to Abbeigh's lips as her brows knitted together. An ear piercing cackle escaping her lips.
"Why?? Why, you ask?!" Abbeigh shouted as she continued to laugh, holding her stomach. "They aren't the same neighbours you met years ago, Mallory" Abbeigh said that drained the life out of me.
I remained silent for a moment. My mind went blank as I tried to take in what she just said. It just wasn't right.
"You can say, I bought houses for all of them by using my parents' life savings" Abbeigh said as she walked behind me. "You know how much they're worth, right?" Abbeigh whispered in my ears as she played with my hair.
"It wasn't that easy having them move out, you know, and it's the same with having my new neighbours trust me" Abbeigh continued as she walked in front of me again.
"But, eventually, the majority of them ended up trusting me" Abbeigh said, sitting back down. "Most of them needs a hideout, and since I'm someone from the higher class, or so they say, they accepted my offer of protection from the police" Abbeigh smiled.
My mind was slowing down from the words that left her mouth. She wasn't being reasonable. Why would she have criminals as neighbours?
"It was hard for me for the first time, the first people who came here were serial killers" Abbeigh smiled, playing with a blade. "I couldn't get to them at first since killing was what they do for a living" Abbeigh said.
"So I need to have them keep a low profile at all costs, and eventually, we all came to terms" Abbeigh smiled, as if she received an achievement.
"The next ones are the thieves, they, too, were a handful" She sighed, massaging her temple with her fingers.
"Since stealing was where their income came from, they started stealing from each other or the from the serial killers," Abbeigh laughed. "Of course, most of them, who stole from the killers, died since they are killers" Abbeigh chuckled, shaking her head.
"Having a taste of their medicine, the thieving in this area died down, since there was nothing they could do against killers, and peace was made between them" Abbeigh smiled.
She's nuts. How can she put her own life on the line and live in a neighbourhood full of criminals? And most importantly, why is she the one who had them live here?
"Then there were the kidnappers, it wasn't hard containing them since they only needed a hide out" Abbeigh shrugged, the energy from her voice earlier, now drained.
"The girl that you tried to save earlier? You guessed it, they were kidnappers" Abbeigh stopped, the smile from her face fading.
"And that's the main reason you're in this situation right now, Mallory" Abbeigh stood up and looked down at me.
"It's because that you tried to become a hero, that you're in this situation, Mallory" Abbeigh's voice turning rough, a wicked smile returning to her face with her eyes wide at me.
"It's obviously your fault!!" Abbeigh laughed, throwing her head back.
"Abbeigh..." I called her name while tears formed under my eyes.
This wasn't the Abbeigh that I grew up with. This isn't her.
"Huh???? Why're you calling my name???" Abbeigh shrieked, looking at me with her head pointing upwards.
What happened to the sweet, innocent Abbeigh that I loved being with? What happened to the Abbeigh that would go on vacations with me? The Abbeigh that I would run away with? Where is she... I can't find her... She disappeared...
