Guards were watching the city's gates but Verzo and Fabio had gone unnoticed due to their speed. Well the guards didn't pay attention either.
It has been some time since Verzo last left Legrandeus but he still remembers how to navigate around Raiherd. He had already visited all of it's towns before and some of them were really good. Fabio on the other hand never left Legrandeus before. Not knowing where anything is he just followed Verzo.
He could've attempted to escape since Verzo was also carrying Eguru and of course was a tiny bit slower, yet he didn't do so. Intelligent wasn't really a word to fit his description but dumb wouldn't fit either.
The fields in Raiherd were not populated.
And so nature did it's thing. A ton of forests, rivers and lakes were found across the entire kingdom. Raiherd was best known for how green it's landscape was. It's also said that it has some extremely beatiful sights like a plateau full of flowers and a statue of it's king emerging from it.
Besides this kingdom there was another powerful one and some small countries. There also was the ''other side'' as everyone called it.
"Where do you want to bury him?" Fabio finally asked as they have gone pretty far already. "We're going to bury him in Akuta, not too far away from Legrandeus. We're currently going south-west."
"Isn't Akuta known for always being attacked by beasts?" "Well, no, not really. You all know that one story that keeps repeating over and over but I've been there before and it's one of the most beatiful cities in Raiherd."
People usually never left the city unless they travelled or had business to do somewhere else. The creatures luring around just were too dangerous for ordinary people. Although there weren't too much of them.
Some monsters are said to have fled from the other side because they were on the bottom of the food chain. But those beasts alone were already half as strong as Verzo.
After another ten minutes had passed the two men were now entering Akuta - "The Goddess' Garden" as it was called by their residents.
Even after seeing this city's beaty dozens of times Verzo was still fascinated. Two tall sakura trees were decorating the entrance and a huge bridge with water beneath it was forming a path welcoming any guests. Cherry blossoms were spread all around the platform and some of them even fell into the water.
No guards were standing at the entrance so they both just entered. It was the first time Fabio was here so only naturally he'd be astonished about Akuta. But he didn't show it.
He mustn't forget that this was still a life and death situation. Basically ignoring the rest of the beaty this city offered Verzo was aiming for a good place to say farewell to his friend.

Aqeen sighed in regret of his actions. "I shouldn't have taken the system away from that human. I was too careless."
Tamiel agreed. "Don't blame it all on you though. It was an unlucky event that even we Rulers didn't see coming."
While watching how Verzo put down Eguru's body Aqeen made up his mind. "The system. I can still give it to him. Normally it allows the chosen Devourer one "extra life" if that person died before fulfilling it's duty. If I just return it to him now it should still be able to work out - hopefully." He stood up and went back to prepare everything.
Tamiel continued to sit and watch both Fabio and Verzo. 'Let's hope it works out just as Aqeen said it would. If not we're doomed.'
Rulers were the creators of something called the "system". It allowed normal humans to change into a Devourer. The system originally forced that human to destroy the world and took over it's consciousness to prevent them from not doing their job.
But that was different now. People chosen were now given free will for the most part.
Aqeen had to think outloud. "The man is already dead. He passed away about 40 minutes ago and lost about 70% of his blood. With the system he could get back another 20-30% of his natural blood. But the rest has to be replaced...'
He suddenly had an idea. His plan in bringing back Eguru might succeed if executed correctly.
The system in normal cases worked like one in an rpg. You level up, receive skill points, level up your attributes and gain new skills. However this didn't quite work now. Instead of returning the system to Eguru normally he had to change it's core.
It was an exhausting process. Changing the core of something already so powerful was complicated and required him to stay focused the entire time. One small mistake and it was all for nothing.
But just a minute later it was done. Aqeen created something new. Instead of returning a system back to Eguru he made it so 50% of his missing blood would be replaced by "shadow-energy".
"Good. Now revive this young man."
