Suddenly Ms. Sallow pulled over in the middle of an empty rode. "Okay kids, this is our stop."
'Wait what! We are in the middle of no where.' I thought
Evan pushes open the door and jumped out almost as if he was happy.
"Um, you guys. This isn't a camp." I said dumbfounded. "Do you have to do some sort of vodo magic to make it open?" I said stepping out of the car.
"No you idiot. The camp is in the woods." Evan said giving me a friendly shove.
I looked into the woods and only saw only thick trees. 'The camp must be really deep in the forest,' I thought.
I wanted for Ms. Sallow to just drive is the rest of the way since I was already shaky, but there was no trail near by she could drive on.
"Okay kids. I am going to have to go.
Esmeray, the woods are a dangerous place so don't touch anything because it will most likely draw the attention of some monster. Stick with Evan and he will lead the way to camp."
I nodded knowingly even though I had no idea about any monsters. The only thing I know is that they would "hid under your bed and closet" when you were little.
'Wait, what if that is actually what happens! Has there always been monsters in my room?' I thought with a took of terror on my face.
Evan ignorer it and grabbed my wrist. As we started marching into the woods, I looked back and Ms. Sallow have me a worried glance, as if she knew something bad was going to happen.
I wanted an adult with us to protect us from harms way. Evan almost got killed on the bus, what if I can't save him in time the next time something happens?
'What could possibly go wrong?' I thought. 'Maybe... everything! What if more monsters come for us?'
We starting walking at a medium pace when I asked, "Hey Evan, are you a demigod?"
He glanced over at me with a warm smile and responded, "Yes, I am a child of Iris."
"Who is that."
He looked embarrassed and averted his eyes. "She is the goddess of Rainbows."
I was so close to laughing, but I knew that I shouldn't. For all I know my mother can be the goddess of cat food. Not like there is anything wrong with that. It is just I would want to have a cool godly parent. Not that Iris wasn't cool or anything, it is just... I honestly don't even know anymore.
I had all the these thoughts rushing in my head, and began to wonder who my mom was. "Maybe I will get to meet her!" I thought with glee.
We continued walking in silence until I heard a twig snap behind us.
Evan didn't seem to notice, so maybe he was the one who stepped on it?
But no, it was to far behind for Evan to step on it.
'You know what, your just being paranoid. It was probably nothing. Honestly, it was probably you' I thought.
But then I heard another twig, and this time Evan seemed to notice. He stood in front of me protectively and started observing our surroundings.
"We are being followed," he whispered.
"By what?"
"I don't know. "
I think the monster heard us because it let out a load roar. My entire body trembled and I felt my legs starting to turn to jelly. Evan kept me up on my feet.
A huge lion with a tail that looked like a scorpion appeared in front of our eyes.
'What the heck is a lion doing out in the woods?' I thought.
"It's a manticore!" Evan whisper-yelled. He gulped and slowly started to back away. I followed his lead with my heart pounding out of my chest.
The manticore tried to lunge and I froze in place unable to move. Evan pushes us out of the way and grabbed my wrist dragging me deep in the forest. The manticore kept chasing us but he started slowing down.
We kept running deeper and deeper into the woods until we were sure it was done following us. Even when he were sure, we kept running, just in case it was lurking near by.
My lungs were burning and I felt like I was going to pass out. But I kept running knowing it is worth the pain to stay alive.
Evan and I stoped and rested on a huge oak tree. We were panting like dogs gasping for air. We must have ran a mile or two sprinting with no stop. We were both completely out of breath but I managed to get out, "Are we lost?"
"No, we just arrived." He said pointing to an arch way that said Camp Red Arrow.
We were here.
