Chereads / Daughter of The Snow Godess / Chapter 9 - A familiar face

Chapter 9 - A familiar face

"Hey Esmeray?" Evan said waving his hands in front of my face. "Are you even listening."

"No sorry," I replied looking back at the girls.

"Ignore their gossiping. Anyways, like I was saying... I think it is time I tell you about your mother."

"Finally!" I shouted.

Immediately heads shot our direction and I looked down realizing how loud I have been.

Evan just smiled and grabbed my wrist to take me inside the main building. He took me inside an office and I sat down on a sofa. He sat across from me on the other one.

We looked at me with his gentle blue eyes. His blond hair was messy as always, and I like it that way. He was lean but had a little muscle to him.

Everyone at school would always ship us together, but I never liked him like that. Sometimes people forget that you can have a pure friendship with nothing romantic to it.

"Here is some water if you want some," he said pointing to the glass of water of the coffee table.

"I am good. Let's just get talking." I said

"Okay, as you know, your mother Khione is the goddess of snow." He said steadily.

I raised my eyebrow gesturing him to keep going. "So you know how everyone was startled at you coming to camp. That is because you look exactly like her." He said calmly.

Next to the sofa, Evan pulled out and handed me a portrait of her. It was like I was looking at an older version of myself! The same hair and face structure. But something about her eyes were different, they looked like they were filled with bitterness.

I placed the portrait on the table with my hands shaking. I began to tremble thinking of the dreams I had about me being older. 'Maybe they were actually her!' I thought.

"So demigods are supposed to be scared of gods and goddesses? Shouldn't they be honored to get a visits from one?" I asked.

"No, your mom has done stuff in the past that hasn't given her the best reputation."

"Like what?"

"Well in the second giant war, your mother helped Gaea and her army capture Hera the queen of all gods and goddesses. She also tried to stop the demigods from the prophecy of 7 from defeating Gaea and her army. She even banished one to a remote island off the charts were they could never be found. Though, the guy did get off the island and returned to the group."

"So the people think that I am like her?" I have never even seen a picture of my mother, let alone had a conversation with her. It's not like she has had an influence in my life.

"No, they think you are her and is going to try to strike again."

My jaw dropped. 'Would my mother really do that to other demigods when she gave birth to one?' I thought. I started to think that maybe meeting my mom wouldn't be such a good idea. I put a worried look on my face which Evan seemed to notice.

"Don't worry Esmeray, you just have to tell people you are her daughter and they won't be as frightened." Evan reassured me.

"Won't be AS frightened?"

"Well, some think that maybe you are on your mother's side. But I have grown up next to you and know that is not the case. Even I was scared at first but really your nothing like her"

Something sparked inside of me. Was it really a coincidence we grew up next to each other.

"How did you grow up with me?" I asked with a darkened expression.

"What do you mean?" He asked trying to look confused. But he knew exactly what I was talking about.

"Were you my best friend for years because you wanted to be or were you sent to be?"

His eyes fell to the ground. "Esmeray... you know that I would never hurt you" He raised his eyes to make eye contact with me. "I trust you now."

"Answer the question. Were you sent to be my friend and observe me?"

"Yes," he said lowering his head once again.

"So you never wanted to be my friend, only because you had to." I said filled with betrayal. I stood up ready to leave. I couldn't deal with this right now.

"At first yes, but I realized how great you actually were and I wanted to be your friend. I know how bad this sounds on my part, but I genuinely want to be your best friend." He responded with his voice filled with desperation.

An older man came in with a guitar on his back. He had long curly blonde hair and blue eyes. "How is it going in here."

I felt all the frustration bottled up inside me. 'How could he do this to me?' I thought. 'What if he never really liked me and our 10 years of friendship was a lie. "We are actually done." I said giving Evan a dark stare.

"Come on Esmeray, lets finish this." Evan said standing up form the sofa.

I ignored him and stormed out of the room and marched outside towards the training area. I began to hear stepping underneath glass. I jumped up thinking it was underneath my feet. It then spread around 10 yards in front of me reaching a couple feet above the ground.

I took a closer took and saw that it was not glass, it was ice.
