Chapter 5 - Are Players Edible?

They went inside the living room shortly after. It was a well-furnished room, with a grand design.

Both Eleanor and Leo thought the importance of this room and invested considerable sum just for decorating and furnishing this room.

The most expensive furniture found in this room is this royal red sofa. It was a hassle, but the family got it through connections and money.

The three of them seated in their respective sits as the kids rested their backs.

Oriel and Luna are situated right next to each other while Derrick is at the opposite place.

His mother, Eleanor, opened the room with a tea caddy and porcelain cups over a plate. She placed them over the table and seated right next to Derrick.

She opened the caddy and poured tea over the porcelain cups, filling them half-full. She sipped on the tea and tasted it. It is all good and ready.

With a straight posture, Eleanor turned her head to signal Oriel, and the latter nodded.

He took a glance at everyone and stopped at Derrick.

"I have a piece of important news to tell you." He finally stopped glancing at Derrick. He tackled the most important subject.

The kids who were talking earlier immediately stopped. All of them curiously looked over to Oriel, and he continued.

"Ms. Eleanor is going to Hilari city and meet with Leo to settle some very important business, don't worry. She will come back soon enough." Derrick looked at her mother with sorrowful eyes. She hugged him tightly and comforted.

"Don't worry, as Oriel said, I am coming back soon, two months at most." It took a while for Derrick to stop crying as he nodded. He feels alone whenever his mother is not home.

Oriel silently stared at the commotion before it ended. Then he announced.

"While Ms. Eleanor is going to Hilary city, the rest of us will go to Viridian City, a colossal city where we will start preparing for your Acknowledgement Ceremony. We will start living there for a month, and we will go to the holy temple next to watch Derrick's ceremony."

"Derrick, before your Acknowledgement Ceremony, I will introduce you to the schools inside Viridian City. Viridian city has everything you want and need. All you need for your magic and physical skills are present inside this city." He looked at Derrick as he informed his circumstances.

"You have higher chances to get 'A' talent compared to us because of your parent's bloodline. So you have to do your best to widen your knowledge to best your peers."

"Luna also does the same with us. I will guide you until the two of you will become full-pledged players." Oriel finished and summarized everything he wanted to say in seriousness.

Luna tilted her head as she found the term "players" unfamiliar and innocently asked.

"Players... are they edible?"

...

Comparing players to food is just...

Eleanor, who was sitting beside Derrick, restrained her laugh immediately to avoid disrespect.

The corners of Oriel's eyes twitched as he bitterly laughed. "Players are the chosen ones acknowledged personally by the heavens above."

The eyes of Derrick instantly lit up the moment he heard "heavens above" and curiously asked. "Are they the gods of this world?"

Oriel felt that he can finally recover his image as a father/uncle figure as he confidently replied.

"They are the gods that govern this world. They are aloof and would never intervene in our Virtualis Continent. We are not given any tasks but only freedom, we can say the same on other tribes."

"So the gods will never intervene if what we do is good or bad?" Somehow, Derrick felt a little strange as he blabbed what was on his mind incessantly.

"They will never intervene." Oriel preached confidently. "The gods trusted us that what we will do is for the betterment of our human society."

Derrick was going to ask for more questions until his mother intervened.

"Oriel." Eleanor intervened. "I ask you to stop changing topics, all of us will be busy, so let's talk about relevant topics."

Oriel nodded. "We will pack our important stuff and temporarily live in Viridian City."

"Prepare your baggage while I will call for a carriage for our transportation."

He stood up and coughed. "I have to do what I ought to do. Derrick, I'll meet with you outside, and Eleanor, please have a safe journey with Leo."

Eleanor nodded and politely said. "Thank you."

"Papa, I will follow you as well!" Luna immediately stood up and told her goodbye to Derrick and his mother. She ran after her father immediately and left home.

Eleanor was silent when turned at Derrick, who was almost crying with tears. He looks so pitiful in that state. She wiped Derrick's tears before he sounded.

"Mom, I want to go with you!" Derrick looked at his mother with expectations. He was already sad that his father is not home then they will also go on separate ways.

"I'm sorry, Derrick. You can't go near Hilari City because it is very dangerous there, even I cannot protect you at all times. I also really need to accompany your father. You have to stay with your uncle first."

"But I want to!" Derrick insisted to go with his mother and accompany his father, even if it means danger for him.

"Forgive me, Derrick, I have to go." Eleanor feigned coldness as she stood up, walked away, and ignored Derrick's plea. She knew nothing will be solved if she tried to reason with her son further, she just had to make a move first.

"But mom—!" Derrick was crestfallen when her mother left. He was left by himself now. He was sobbing and wiping off his tears. He doesn't want to leave her mother yet.

Luna's head popped out at the door and went in. She tries to comfort him. "Hey Derrick, are you okay?"

Derrick stared at the source of the voice. He stared at her and nodded. "Mhmm."

His tears slowly stopped as he wiped off all his tears. For a while, his complexion returned to normal.

Luna thought for a second and said. "Papa said that the carriage is waiting for us, shall we go?"

Derrick looked at where his mother left and slowly nodded. "Sure, I'll go tell mom."

He walked upstairs as he went inside his room. He saw his mother packing his stuff as she turned and smiled at him.

Eleanor gently voiced out. "Are you well now?"

Derrick's eyes were going to burst in tears but he forcefully stopped it. He hugged her mother and responded. "Mhmm, I am well. I just need hugs."

The two of them hugged for some time before Eleanor broke free from Derrick's embrace. She closed the baggage and chuckled. "Your baggage is ready now."

"I'll be going to see you out." She continued.

The two of them finally left the residence, Eleanor was positioned near the door while Derrick is already near the two-wheeled carriage.

"Goodbye, mom!" Derrick waved his hand to Eleanor, and she responded.

"Have a safe journey, Derrick!"

She turned her head, and Oriel got the signal instantly. He immediately ordered the coachman to set off.

The carriage moved forward, and the kids were waving at Luna, she smiled and waved at them as well until the carriage is cannot be seen anymore.

She thought of the predicament her husband would face and instantly frowned. She is looking impatient and ready to go rush to the scene as soon as possible.

She looked at the sky and focused her mana on her back. Large wings immediately materialized behind her as she immediately flew in the sky.

And the destination... is Hilari City.
