Chapter 2 - 02. Mother

A deep growl came from her belly. Hunger...

As she stretched, her eyes fell on the nearby calendar and her breath stocked. June 2020.

Suddenly she hit her own head so hard until she saw stars flying like little birds around her head.

"Ahhh, stupid! How could I forget that! I asked what year it is but didn't ask when it started. Did he say meteorite, attack, aliens...? No, he just said Zombie Apocalypse. Ahhh, so dumb..." She started hitting her pillow until it turned into a mess.

A sound of knocking on the door made her stop her unreasonable behaviour.

With a pout, she opened her door and saw two grey eyes staring at her in worry.

"Are you OK? I could hear you ranting so I thought something happened." Her mother stood right there in front of her and looked at her with deep worry.

"Mom, I love you." With a smirk, she hugged her mother and planted a kiss on her cheek. The smell of honey and vanilla came from her and made her feel comfortable. Always that smell.

"What is it? A dream again?" Jenny was the only person that believed in her dreams and predictions.

"Aha. And this time was so vivid. Mom, I think we are heading towards Zombie Apocalypse." She looked at her mom and saw her eyes looking at her calmly.

"When will it start?" Jenny took her hand and went to the kitchen where a table with breakfast waited for her.

While sitting down Anne just shook her head while a bunch of naughty curls flew around her head. "Don't know the exact date. What should we do?"

A long sigh came from her mom's lips. "We must warn your grandparents from both sides, your father, your aunts and uncles... And then, I'll turn into a hamster."

Anne looked at her full body and literally imagined her turning into a big hamster and gathering stuff. She chuckled by the picture she had in her head and felt a finger poking her head.

"You are imagining again something weird? Wait... don't tell me you imagined me like a hamster, hm?" Actually, no idea how, but her mother had the same vivid imagination like herself only without the prediction powers.

Both of them started chuckling and poking each other until the sound of the phone stop them.

Her mom looked at the number and almost wanted to throw the phone into the trash can. But just patted her chest and inhaled deeply.

"Hello? Mom... I wanted to call you anyway, there is information... No, mother, I do not need another set of covers. I do not care that they are on sale. Mother, you already have about fifty sets. Literally you can use them until you die. What not fifty... it's seventy..."

She turned her head and looked at Anne while holding her head.

"You want to buy ten more? What for? Seriously? Mom... mother... oi, woman... listen. No..." Jenny stood there with a flabbergasted expression while she held the phone in her hand. "She went to get more covers. Seriously... that woman."

Anne's grandmother had a huge house with a bunch of closets that were filled to the brim with all kinds of stuff. Clothes she will never wear, underwear that she bought and never even took out of the packages, socks, towels, covers, curtains, jackets, sports gear... she never used and much more.

As soon as there was some offer she thought that was good, she would buy stuff and just leave it for 'just in case' situations.

"I always wondered why I am sometimes crazy shopper, now I know why..." Jenny put the phone on the table and saw Anne holding back laughter. She started laughing at herself. "Oh well. It is how it is. Can't change anything. You call grandpa. He won't believe me that, but he takes your words somewhat seriously."

Anne rolled her eyes. "Do you think he will belive me such a thing? I wish they were a bit nearer. Why did they have to go and live by the seaside... How can someone like the sun that much."

Jenny chuckled. Anne was one of the people that could live just fine at night while sleeping all day. Since small, she called her little vampire, but funny thing is, this child hated eating meat.

She became vegan at a young age and grew up just fine. Unfortunately, Jenny just loved a big slice of meat in her pan and couldn't give it up.

Luckily for them, Jenny had a good job and could afford to buy a big house with her precious winter garden. No matter how much her grandmother said that it's better to plant outside, Jenny hated it.

They lived in a big city and their 'house' was actually an apartment on top of the building. Two-level house with huge winter garden that bloomed and gave fruits and vegetables in mid of city all year long.

Jenny was worried about Anne's diet and choose to grow food as she heard about all kind of stuff being sprayed all over the food in grocery stores. So all vegetables and fruits they wanted to eat, came from here.

Even their breakfast table was outside as the smell of ripening cherries enveloped them. The only sound at the moment was buzzing of bees that her mother brought and feared more than anything else.

"Mom, are you more afraid of zombies or bees?" She chuckled as she saw the terrified expression on her face as one small bee flew around her head. Strangely, bees loved Jenny, too bad she was allergic and petrified about them.

The bit that didn't stop her bringing the bees into this garden with words that she was not crazy to pollinate it all herself. And bees loved this place.

Even as they ate, they happily buzzed here and there as they had enough flowers that bloomed all year long. Giggles filled the air...
