Delphine spoke of everyone who came across her on her path towards the dark shadows and overcame many more obstacles. She knew Simon for more than a week and promised herself that even though he is a trustworthy person, she still could not have the strength to tell him anything about her past.
"Well, you don't have to tell me too much. You probably might never go in-depth with where you come from," Simon said.
"Really? What makes you say that?" Delphine asked.
"I use to know a bunch of people who only gave me clues about who they are and what they live for. Only my mother went on for about twenty minutes about her livelihood, and nobody I ever came across told me what they desire in life," he said.
"I pity you. It seems as if you and I share the same traits and ideas about the world. It also appears as if those people are too scared to show us their true selves and what they stand for. Indeed, it must be because it's not what they truly desire in life or what they wish to do to themselves. I have met all kinds of people over my lifetime, and not a single one has asked me what I want to do, and I never asked them the same question. It's undeniable that they want to stand clear of their secrets, and their minds would always be set on one thing instead of other things."
Even though Delphine was right about what she said, Simon still took a long time to understand her statement. He knew that she would walk away from anything that has to do with her past because of how intense and tragic it is.
"But, that's not what you're wondering, isn't it?" Delphine asked.
"No. I was just thinking, that's all," Simon said. It was too late for him to change his mind because Delphine already figured out what he wanted to know.
She already had the window closed so that nobody looks at her, and she was getting ready to take off her corset.
"Simon, you may not like what you're going to see. But, I know what you must know," she said.
"What are you doing, Delphine?" He asked. He then saw her taking off her corset and laying it down on the floor; he closed his eyes and looked away as she stood behind him.
Of all the things she had on her body, she was making him look at the very thing that triggers her heart and soul to go berserk.
"Simon, look up. I want you to look at my scar," Delphine said. He was shivering just by the thought of looking at it, and he was being bothered as he speculated that something terrible might happen.
"Go on, have a look," she said. Simon could not relent the offer and run away from her presence because she would just chase after him.
And so, he turns around and decides to look at Delphine's scar and promised himself to never talk of this moment to anyone. She had her left hand groping her breast and her right hand holding onto the significant injury that never healed. While looking at it, Simon could feel this temperament and boiling anger coming from himself as he tried to look away from it. It became impossible to look away from her wound as it seemed to turn red as she laid her hand on it.
Then Delphine spoke to Simon, saying, "I received this large scar when I was younger. It was the grim reaper who gave it to me, and it appeared as if it took orders from a much more ferocious being more powerful than death itself. He poisoned me with his dagger, and I was forced to walk alone with nobody to come near me. His blade went through my upper chest to my back, and I am forced to carry it for the rest of my life. There is this creature who calls himself the Demon Wolf, and he will stop at nothing to send his servants for me. Because of them, I carry the blood of the Demon Wolf and the blood of the Wolf Queen.
"Although I can't go that far yet into my reasons for being on this journey, I can only tell you how I got my scar. Every time I seem like I am on the brink of death, this wound will conjure up all the forces of darkness unto me. And I become like them. I become something that I have despised throughout my life. I cannot escape my rage, and my hate for the demons keeps me on this dark path."
Simon stood there and felt like his body was about to freeze and never be able to walk again. His eyes were focused only on Delphine's scar, and he found it impossible to stop thinking about what it might do to someone like himself. Then, Delphine takes a step back and turns her body around, and she covers her breasts while Simon stands behind her. It appeared as if she has been through enough trauma and refused to suffer any more of it. Then, Simon strolls towards her to see if he can cheer her up and make her think of something else.
"Delphine, I... I'm sorry. I'm sorry you're living like this. I wish there were something I can do about it," Simon said.
"No, it's not your fault. I can't blame you or lay all of my burdens on you. I know it hasn't been easy for any of us, but let's not allow our past to stand in our way," Delphine said.
"I think I might understand, except that I don't have a scar on me. I never had any marks on my body that I would be forced to carry forever. Of course, it may be pretty difficult to be in your shoes and suffer for eternity," he said. Before he could say anything else, Delphine placed her hand on his left cheek and went to say something in his ear.
"You will not tell anyone about this conversation. Do you want to know why I make you stay behind me? I don't trust myself in making you run solo against such powerful creatures. That's why my scar still burns my body and soul," she said.
"I'm not going to let that happen, Delphine. You know me, and you know that I will never let that happen to you," Simon said.
"If what you say is true, then I still must keep you alive until the very end. I will not bear the day I see you torn to pieces because I will never forgive myself," Delphine said. She was speaking of events that will most likely happen in the future; she spoke in a way that made her think that if it ever happened, she would be cursed to carry that guilt forever.
Then, Delphine puts her corset back on as Simon gets his armor on to leave the city of Gisbourne. As he was getting his armor on, Delphine was also getting her armor on as she desperately tried to forget about everything that happened last night. Then, Simon saw that she had plenty of strength to put her armor on herself, and he stood beside her and watched her get ready. He also noticed that Delphine had plenty of power to put her scabbard and sword on her side. She did not need any more help from him as she was prepared to leave the city and give the room key back to the innkeeper.
Simon makes sure he has his sword and other weapons attached to him before he could leave the room. It was during this time that Delphine had her armor on, her cloak attached to her armor, her lengthy hair running down to her thighs, and her sword on her scabbard. And so, they held onto their belongings, and they made sure they grabbed everything before leaving, and none of them left anything behind. Simon closes the door and follows Delphine to the innkeeper, where she gives up the room key.
"You came just in time," the innkeeper said.
"I know. My brother and I are done here. If we ever come back again, we'll be ready with an extra bottle of wine," Delphine said.
"Spoken like a true knight. By the way, word comes around really quickly. From what I understand, there was a woman dressed in black who was able to kill the cathedral night creature and lifted the curse of this city!"
"Aye, some lady. Do you know her?"
"Do I know her? Well, here, everyone knows her. They know her as the Ebony Knight. They say that she can lift a curse upon a kingdom and drive the demons away. And you know, just by looking at you, that description matches you more than anybody."
