The leader of the demons is more than just a beast. He was once a mighty nordic warrior in ancient times. During the days of old, when the demons took over the earth, he was powerful enough to kill over a million-night creatures. Great darkness took over his soul, and he was now bound to those he swore to drive away from the earth. The people drove him away and believed he turned his back on the Norse gods and their culture. His name was once Eivor of Beamflot; his new name is Godbrand, a Viking demon and a powerful creature of darkness.
He walked past the demons who surrounded Delphine and Simon and stared openly at the two of them during this night. Delphine began to see something very troublesome in Godbrand's soul and could not find a way which her new enemy is.
"Aye, what have we here? A lady dressed in a knight's armor and a hunter who seems to be following her. What brings you out here in this ungodly hour?" Godbrand asked.
"You will answer my question first. Who are you, and why do you stand in our way?" Delphine asked.
"It is you who stands in our way. It is you who walks in distant places only to be cast out," he said.
"I'm no cheap wanderer who would find herself in a pile of rubble and hide from her enemies. I'm not so restrained towards having to make a deal with demons."
Before she could say anything else to him, Delphine started to sense this overpowering smell coming from the Viking demon. She then smells the thickness of the scent as she walks closer towards Godbrand, and Simon points his sword at their leader.
"You're not just any ordinary demonic leader, are you? I know that scent. You were never always a demon... I know what you are," Delphine said.
"And what am I?" Godbrand asked.
"You're a Viking," she answered. The demons stood behind their leader and started to wonder if she was telling the truth or not.
Simon was confused for a few seconds, but he began to assume if Delphine knew so much about Vikings that she visited their villages.
"Indeed, I was once a Viking. But, those are days are long gone, and my people turned their backs on me after I made a deal to save my family," Godbrand said.
"You know I can't let you live. And I can't let you leave so easily. You were once human, and now your soul is full of darkness and death," Delphine said.
Then Godbrand said to her, "Very well. You've already made it this far. I can already tell who you are. You are the ebony knight, the slayer of demons, the one who walks in the darkness, and the one who lifted the curse of the holy city of Gisbourne. But, even that will not save you, for I am more powerful than any creature you've ever known. Now, you will face me here and now... only one of us leaves alive. Draw your sword, ebony knight. Let's see how good you are!"
And so, Godbrand pulls out his greatsword and points it at Delphine as she already had her weapon pulled out. All of the demons were circled together to watch both their leader and their enemy duel against each other. They were already staring at the two sword wielders ever since they laid their eyes on Delphine. It seemed as if the news was already spreading all across the lands, and her name was already being spoken of in cities and villages. But, Delphine never really sought fame in life, and her time on earth is focused on only fighting against the demons.
Godbrand charges towards Delphine with his greatsword in the air, and he throws a strong attack against her. Delphine blocked the attack, but her boots were sliding backward because of how powerful the blow was. Nevertheless, she kept her distance and continued holding onto her sharp blade while making sure Simon is still behind her. Then, Delphine ran towards Godbrand and pointed her greatsword at the demon's head as she defended herself in the night. She then uses her weapon and spins around, throwing quick attacks against her opponent, and she saw him parrying every single blow.
Delphine is facing a demonic warrior who is about as loud as she is when it comes to fighting back. Her arms were responding quite weakly against the power Godbrand held inside of him, yet her strength continued to be inside of her. The night has only begun, she just recovered from the last battle, and she is already fighting another powerful night creature. The only impressive thing of this duel was the fact that Delphine is the only person amongst all of Godbrand's fallen enemies who still dared to fight back. Then, he raised his sword and clashed with her sword; they were both keeping their balance while holding onto their swords.
"You're reflexes. They're pretty good," Delphine said.
"I told you, I'm more different than any creature you've ever faced before. I have the total of your demonic power at my disposal. All of it and more," Godbrand said.
"I will not enjoy your suffering. But, those who stand in my way get my sword into their chests," she said.
"I have lived for far too long. I lived much longer than you ever could. And thanks to the mighty power I have inside me, I will take pleasure in soaking my sword with the blood of my enemies."
"You let your family down. You fell into the darkness and agreed to allow the demons to take over your mind. This lord and master you serve put only nonsense into your mind. You didn't become a demon warrior by mere chance. You've had other reasons for abandoning your humanity, didn't you? I will make you talk!"
"I cannot be persuaded. Enough of this banter, do not hold back. Prove to me that you are what they say you are!"
Then, Godbrand continued to hold onto his giant sword and swore to drive it into Delphine's chest as they stood against each other. The rules were still the same about all duels and onslaughts; only one person leaves alive and lives to tell the tale. The tales of victory always come from those who are willing to say to it and pass it on to their descendants. Simon stood there and stared at everything that is happening, and he noticed how similar it was to the last battle. He began to see a pattern that with every new demon Delphine kills, more will rise and be much more potent than ever.
Then Simon thought to himself, This is all becoming way too intense. Delphine just got done fighting a creature that almost made her become like him. I am blinded by so much confusion and rage that Delphine unleashes upon her foes. It seems as if she's trying to go to the darkest places of the earth and defeat the toughest of all the demons. What kind of power is she trying to achieve? Besides her scar, there is so much about her that I must know.
It is evident that it was way too much to ask Delphine about her true nature, but he needed to know. The problem is that she needed to be given some time before going ahead and telling him everything about her. Meanwhile, Delphine continued her duel against Godbrand as the other demons were watching this fight take place. The moon is shining in the night sky, and nobody could see any stars because of how much the trees covered most of the air from plain sight. Both Delphine and Godbrand swung their weapons as if the whole world watched this duel take place.
Then, Delphine goes for a fatal blow against her enemy, and her sword began to clash with Godbrand's sword. His strength was still with him, but he needed to balance himself and get it back together, or he will die a gruesome death. Suddenly, Delphine forced the demon to lose balance and made his sword fall, and she sliced him on his face. She then uses her greatsword and leaves a massive scar on his stomach and watched as his blood started to gush out. The expectations of the demons were subverted, and they could not believe that a human was able to face their leader and win the duel.
"You have seen it for yourself, demon. I've won your game. Now you're going to tell me everything you know. And before I send you back to your maker, I wanna know why you chose to become a night creature," Delphine said. Her greatsword was pointing at Godbrand's throat; she was ready to have him cut to pieces, but she needed lots of answers from him.
The mighty creature was already in interrogation and could not move a muscle until Delphine says he can.
