Not even the demons were able to save their leader because a bunch of them were already afraid of the ebony knight. Pretty much half of the entire legion of Hell has already heard of Delphine and how powerful she is. They have received news of how she has done many things against them and how violent she can be. She now had the opportunity to cut down even the creatures who fly and weigh more than the usual night creatures. The only difference is that Delphine never fought a demon who uses sorcery against her and creates magic to fight back.
Then Godbrand said to her, "I am Godbrand. A demon warrior who once killed as many demons as you did. Unlike you, I have killed more demons in my life than you ever could. The ones who serve the darkness inflicted a curse upon me after I defeated all of them in combat. They made me a cursed soul, a knight of the dark embrace, a creature of the night. You have done little than kill a few demons. You have no idea of the real power a beast such as myself can wield.
"You may not know this, but your path to your greatest enemies will only lead to a curse that you'll never escape from. Only the gods themselves can decide your fate, and only they can release this curse from you. You are but one mortal, the people of this world will no longer be saved from the likes of you. You're going to the misty mountains, aren't you? Well, if you go there, it will be the first of many trials you will be forced to endure on your journey. You will be cursed to walk the earth for all eternity."
Delphine stood before him with her greatsword pointing at his throat, and she became surprised at all the things he said to her. She started to be afraid of everything that will happen to her and went from being full of rage to being fearful of what is going to happen.
"If what you say is true, then I will gladly accept my fate. If that is God's will, so be it. I will accept full responsibility for what I am about to do," Delphine said. Simon looked at her and stepped back a few inches away from her, but there was still a large group of demons behind him.
"You don't know what you're about to be in for. You may never come back from having all of the powers of Hell inside your soul," Godbrand said.
"The fate of the earth is in full effect. Nobody has the strength or courage to go forth into the mountains. It appears that only I have to do all of the heavy liftings myself," she said.
"You're making a huge mistake if you think you can make it out of here unscathed. If you don't know this, there are greater beings out there... those who were like you once," he said.
"Who are they?"
"They are referred to as the gods of shadow: Galgaldr, Othan, Enisara, Beamflot, Slovak, and Amadeus. These are the ones who are from faraway lands. They come from places that are guarded by two powerful seers. They are from the depths of Hell. There are no other ways to get to their locations. Only by the assistance of the deathly hallows, can they get you to those gods."
"You seem to forget about me. I'm not here to be bribed, and I need no hellish gods telling me my fate. I only desire to find the ones who gave me this power I've never asked for. They took everything and everyone away from me, and they will pay the price. However, if it's true about those gods, then I will go to the ends of the earth to find them. And you will not stop me... you will be dead."
"You know nothing, ebony knight. Cowardice will be your downfall. You will do best to—"
Before Godbrand could say anything else, Delphine uses her greatsword and stabs him in the throat. She watches as the blood of the demon begins running down; she keeps her sword in his body for about ten seconds. She then pulled the sword out from Godbrand's throat and witnessed him puking out a bunch of blood and falling upon it. It was at that moment when he was presumed dead by the demons, and some of them were ready to fight back. It did not matter what kind of danger would fall upon them, but they somehow needed to fight back and avenge their fallen master.
"Who is next?" Delphine asked. She waited for one or two of the demons to come towards her and avenge the death of Godbrand.
Simon walked towards Delphine and held onto his sword against all of the demons getting ready to fight them. One of the demons charged towards Delphine and held onto his weapon to cut her down where she stands. She was not afraid to stain her sword with more demonic blood; her hatred towards the demons made her feel much mightier. Then, Delphine used her greatsword and parried the blow about to be thrown upon her, and she slices off the demon's arms and legs. She left that creature to bleed out and die as more demons were coming to her and throwing their lives away for their leader.
Then, another demon charges towards Delphine with his ax aiming for her face to slice it off. There was nothing from the creature Delphine could not do that she has already done to the other demons. She slices the monster in half before he could even land one attack on her, and she was not afraid to kill the rest of them. Delphine was already filled with so much contempt and anger towards the demons as they were ready to fight back. This was one of those rare occasions where Delphine was so angry that she could not give Simon to kill a single night creature.
He stayed behind her and watched as she viciously kills her enemies with a single slash from her greatsword. But, he began to have this feeling that she was clearing a path for him so that he can follow the moon and escape the onslaught. At this point, this was exactly what she is doing for him as the night continues. Delphine refused to put her sword down and go any further until every last demon is sent back to Hell. For a brief instant, she thought she did not need anybody while hunting down her enemies, but she started to have a change of heart.
Delphine's new purpose is to keep Simon along with her and not abandon him to an earl or bishop. Her greatsword is for him to be defended by all the forces of evil, and she made a new promise never to give Simon up. She would instead end her own life than see him be tormented and disgraced by those who have taken so much from her. Delphine uses her greatsword and brutally slaughtered every creature that stood in her way; only a few of them were lucky to parry some of the blows she threw at them. Simon stayed behind her and killed about ten demons as he watches her kill them, and he stayed confident and robust for the whole night.
Then Delphine thought to herself, Simon... I will always protect you. I will water the ground with the demon's blood and keep you safe. I'm blinded by this uncontrollable rage that I may have to endure for the rest of my life. My days of being alone are over. I'm going to kill every last one of them for you. In your name, I swing my sword against the creatures of Hell. Simon... I'm falling for you.
She was now having a significant change in her mind as she continued to be with Simon while on her journey. The blood of the demons was already staining her sword, and a large mass of gore is already covering the trees and the ground. Delphine continued to fight back until she did not see any more creatures trying to kill her. She notices that the onslaught between her against the demons is over, and she never received a scar from any of them. Every single night, her sole purpose is to hunt down and kill every hellish beast standing in her way.
Then, Simon walks to Delphine while stepping all over the corpses of the demons she had just slain. He notices the blood of Godbrand has a horrible smell, so he covers his mouth to not breathe in it. He saw Delphine wiping so much of the demonic blood onto one of the corpses, and her mind is slowly getting back together. Meanwhile, the blood and gore of the Viking demon started to return into its body, and he began to receive back his strength.
