While walking on the long road, they come across a vast forest with trees measuring up to about forty feet. They found themselves walking towards the forest of Dunsinane, which was one of the more massive forests in the world. It mostly felt like a straightforward pathway from one side of the world to the next side to reach a prominent place. There is rarely anybody in this world who uses a forest to navigate where they must go and survive. Survival was always a fundamental instinct for Delphine and Simon as they both continued walking on the long trail.
"Are you sure this is the quickest way to those mountains? It sure seems like a one day journey to get to that place," Simon said.
"It'll take five days for us to get there. If we continue to stop for whatever reason, it may take longer," Delphine said.
"Five days? I can see the mountains from here. Why would it take that long to get there?" He asked.
"It's just a straight-shot. The narrow road is very long, the path will lead the way if we stay on track, and the moon's light will be able to lead the way."
"Well, since we got time, how is it that you know it will take five days to get us out of this forest?"
"Appearances can be very deceiving, Simon. The misty mountains may look and sound as if we are nearly there, but they are much higher mountains than others. It's one of the highest places in the world, and it tempts you into believing that you get closer with every day passing and new days to come. Like I said, if we follow the long road north, we will get there in no time. But, if we lose the path, we will have no choice but to make up our own decisions in getting out. In hindsight, we follow the trail, and we will be out in about... two days."
Delphine knew it would take them a short amount of time if they remained on the dark road. Since it was such a massive forest with huge trees, losing their way would only increase the time it will take for them to reach the other side.
"Okay, fine. Two days by foot and whatever you say goes," Simon said.
"Fair enough. When we go inside this forest, I promise to take care of all your concerns," Delphine said.
"I'll be prepared for whatever comes our way. I'll be ready for my sword of danger ever comes," he said.
"Only if you follow my lead. Now, let's get going."
Delphine and Simon said nothing more to each other and had nothing left to lose as they made their way into the forest of Dunsinane. There was once a man named Osbert Dunsinane who planted the biggest vineyard next to the northern lands. The king of that particular region wanted Osbert to plant a vineyard that travels from the east to the western areas. He agreed to the terms the king gave to him and spent twenty years of his life, planting a vineyard that divided the northern and southern lands. Eventually, it was much harder for people of the south of continents to cross the border to the nordic nations because the vineyard was transforming into a forest.
It was rather clear that Delphine would know of such a tale of how the forest became a reality. Osbert grew in time and did not have a clue as to why his vineyard was becoming something more significant and expansive. This change pleased both the king of Midland and the king of Stockholm, yet little did they know of the dangers that the forest would bring. Neither of the ancient kings understood why this change expanded more than a hundred miles in all directions. Osbert escaped to his family home by running through the vast forest because he was being hunted down after the displeasure of the citizens; he was never seen or heard from again.
About an hour later, Simon's legs were starting to get a bit tired after so much walking, and he understood the reasons for being left behind in such a forest. He might have had an understanding as to how and why a person such as Delphine could withstand so much walking. But, he began to have plenty of thoughts of denial because she has done twice as much walking than he ever could. He started to slap himself to stay awake and focused while walking behind Delphine; he could not lose nor give up while walking in the forest. Delphine turns around and watches Simon trying to make himself stay awake and alarmed by what is ahead for him.
"Simon, why are you slapping yourself?" Delphine asked.
"Oh, I'm just trying to stay awake. I don't think we've ever rested from last night," Simon said.
"Being in a bathtub with me was not enough for you? I'm sure the water was specifically made to make you feel relaxed," she said.
"Well, true. But still, I can feel my eyes making me not look straight."
"Do you want me to carry you the rest of the way? I can carry my sword on my side. I can carry another heavy thing as well."
"Do you have the gall to carry me through these thick woods? I dunno if you can carry someone who eats more than you and drinks just as much wine and ale as you do."
"Care to see a demonstration? I'm not afraid to do it if you're going to keep mouthing off. I've strangled a wild boar with my bare hands, and I shot a snow bear in the face with just one arrow."
Simon felt very impressed with the vivid talent Delphine had, and his eyes began to open wide as he heard those things. At this point, he was not as tired as he thought he was when he stood beside her on the long road.
"Well, those are some pretty impressive things I've ever heard you say. I take it you're not one to easily be bargained with," Simon said.
"I need no bargain, Simon. I got plenty of coins to spend once we reach the next village," Delphine said. Then, she walks towards him and wraps her right arm around Simon's neck as the afternoon sun was already upon them.
Delphine did not want Simon to rest himself after walking with her for so long in the forest.
"Come on, Simon. Let's keep walking as the sun is already up. We'll rest once the sun is no longer in sight," she said. And so, they continued to walk together as Delphine's arm is still wrapped around Simon's neck.
They were still pretty good on the path ahead, and none of them drifted away from each other as the day was again hastening on. Delphine proceeded to have Simon be with her and refused to abandon him in such a terrible place to live and die. Only the foolish and weary would die in such a massive area filled with all kinds of terror waiting for any trespasser. The woods sure seemed peaceful, and nothing wrong came out from the trees and leaves as Delphine and Simon walked on the long trail. They walked for another hour and still did not lose themselves from the path because Delphine followed it as Simon walked beside her.
After two hours of seemingly endless walking, Simon surely needed to rest his legs and not take another step. Then, Delphine stops walking as she saw Simon not being able to keep up with her as she led the way. She saw that his face was getting red, and his legs were beginning to wobble for a few seconds.
"You want to stop walking for now?" Delphine asked.
"How... can you... with so much armor move so freaking fast?" Simon asked. Delphine started to laugh for a second as she was questioned about her quick movement and her strength to keep walking.
"Fine. I'll do it your way this time. Let's find somewhere next to the road where we can rest," Delphine said. Then, she released him from her arm and allowed him to walk freely, but they were only finding someplace to rest.
They managed to find a resting place next to the road, and they decided to rest behind a large tree with a few branches already being dropped from the sky. Simon was relieved to be in a resting spot and thought he might never be able to sit down ever again. He sat down behind the tree as Delphine was still standing up in front of him and was not tired at all. She was always willing to walk around and exercise herself and not find herself in a place full of drunkards and musicians. She stood beside Simon until it seemed necessary that even she needed to sit down somewhere and rest her legs.
