Chapter 43 - Power Beyond Recognition

Delphine did not confusingly look at Simon, but she did wonder why he was anywhere near the lower part of her back.

"Oh, it's nothing. I was just wondering if I could help you unwind a bit because of how much you push yourself," Simon said.

"Simon, do you practice being creepy?" Delphine asked. His eyes were widely opened, and he started to be embarrassed in himself after he said that.

Then, Delphine turned back around and waited for Simon to continue giving her a massage and making her feel relaxed. He could tell that she has been through quite a night and loathsome pain against her opponent. He had his hands on her back again and started to think of a less sensitive spot to where he should stroke her.

Well, that didn't work. Alright, no more joking around. I have to get this right. I believe her least sensitive spot is somewhere... around... here. Simon thought. He had his hands on Delphine's lower back and pressed hard with his thumbs and began to go through with it.

Delphine then started to breathe heavily as Simon was pressing onto her stomach and back as they sat together.

That's strange. Nobody reacted like that the last time I did something like this. That was a long time ago, and I'm just starting to recognize how the process goes. He thought. He remembered the last time he massaged a lady, she yelled out, made sexual noises, and begged him to keep doing it.

Indeed, Simon used to have an old girlfriend whom he met at a bar and wished to dance with her as she was passing wine and ale to the customers. It was not a very long relationship because he found out about a demonic invasion in her village; he found out that the demons killed her mother and brother, and she went someplace else. Unfortunately, he never heard from her again because he was only about twenty years old the last time he saw his girlfriend. Her name was Guthred, and she was a gentle soul and a nice girl to him, but she is now just a memory to Simon. Meanwhile, he was still with Delphine thinking about the good times while he massaged her back and rubbing on her shoulders for a little bit.

"Uh, Simon. That's enough," Delphine said. He was a bit confused about why she told him to stop doing it, and he gave her some room to stretch her arms.

"Are you sure? I was just getting started," Simon said.

"Thanks, but no thanks. It appears you're good at this. I can imagine you doing this kind of thing with other people," she said.

"Oh, yeah. Sure, no problem."

"Now then. I'll go back to our room. I'll be waiting for you. Do you have the room key?"

"I do. It's in one of my front pockets."

Then, Delphine looks down at herself for a few seconds after Simon takes his hands off of her body. She then looks at Simon while she waited for him to turn his eyes to the water so she can get out. She did not want him to see her front body and everything else that the water was covering. Then, Delphine slowly gets up from the bathtub and turns around to get out of there as Simon was looking away. All he could hear were her footsteps and the sound of water dripping from her body; Delphine grabs a towel to dry herself for a few seconds before putting her clothes back on.

"Are you gonna get out, Simon?" She asked.

"Yes. I'm just waiting for you to be done," he answered.

"I'm not going to look at you. I promise," Delphine said. Then, she puts on her clothes as Simon was getting out of the tub and fast walking to get a towel.

He was drying himself faster than Delphine did, and he was getting a clear view of Delphine swiping back her blonde hair and making it run back down to her thighs. Simon began putting on his clothes as Delphine finished putting on her pants and fixing her bra. He was trying as hard as he could to get ready to go back to their room as he desperately tried not to gaze his eyes upon her body. It was much simpler and quicker for him to put his shirt and pants on and did not say a word about how he watches Delphine finish putting her corset on. Then, he walked towards Delphine and stood beside her as she already has the key to the room.

"Alright, let's go," she said. Delphine led the way back to their hotel room as the morning still seemed to be upon them.

Delphine was in the bathing room for about twenty minutes, and Simon stayed with her during that time for only ten minutes. Only a few people were looking at them and were now starting to realize that it was they who saved the citizens. Delphine and Simon knew within themselves they would give anything to protect the people from any creature that would bring them harm. They kept the idea of surviving and living in their hearts since their primary purpose was not to live amongst other people. Then, Delphine stood before their door and used the room key to unlock the door and stay inside.

Delphine and Simon waited for the afternoon bell to ring from the cathedral, and they made sure to gather their things and leave the city. She did not expect the battle against the cathedral night creature to last almost an entire week. Delphine walked before the window and wondered what happened to the priests and the bishop; they were probably already informed about the demon who died by Delphine. Simon asked if they would be paid a large amount of money for doing something admirable and courageous for the people. Then, Delphine began to think about other things in her head as they were patiently waiting for the morning to be over.

"Father Edward will be expecting me one last time. I have to be at the cathedral to hear whatever speech he has rehearsed and received my payment," Delphine said.

"It's been a while ever since we came here. And it seems as if we've been going to that place every single day," Simon said.

"This time, you don't have to come with me. You can wait at the city's entrance. I doubt the priest will need you more than me," she said. Simon was never called upon or requested to be seen by any one of the cloth, yet they knew he followed Delphine wherever she goes.

He notices that Delphine has not left the same spot she has been next to ever since they came to the holy city. Then, Simon slowly turns around and walks towards her to see if he can talk to her about something. He then stood next to Delphine's left side and raised his arm to hold her right shoulder and look outside the window with her. Then, she looks at him for a long while and comes to an understanding that he enjoys being with her more than anyone.

"Delphine, there is something I've meant to ask you for a long while. And I thought this might be the perfect time to do it instead of waiting another day," Simon said.

"I'm all ears, Simon. What's on your mind?" Delphine asked.

Then Simon answered and said to her, "I've meant to ask this of you because I've seen it with my own eyes. I've seen this fury and rage that I've never seen out of anyone before. I thought I just imagined things for a moment, but it was happening. Your eyes were beyond human, and you had fangs that were massive enough to bite the skin off of anyone's flesh. And I saw blood coming out of your shoulder, but you didn't show any sign of being injured right there. It just happened in a blink of an eye, and you were not yourself... you have something inside you bringing death to all within a matter of seconds."

Delphine had her eyes closed for a long while, and she began squinting her eyes when Simon started talking about her inner nature. She dreaded the moment someone would bring it up and loathed the day she would have to tell a stranger the truth about the strength she carries. But, Simon was no stranger and no wayfarer to be standing in her way as she walks onward in her journey. She then opens her eyes and goes over to the window and closes it so that nobody can take a glimpse of her. Simon stopped holding onto her shoulder and waited for her to explain what's going on.

"You're right. I do have something in me. It's a dark power beyond all recognition and must never be discussed by anyone," Delphine said.
