Chapter 1 - Arrival

I lived a long life, longer than most of my kind live, due to my immense psionic power. I lead a stellar empire to their path of ascension. I admit, my methods weren't perfect, but overall things went smoothly. Relatively late during my reign a rogue defense system exterminated many species among the stars but under my rule we survived. Of course we had to make sacrifices, but in the end these sacrifices saved the rest of their species.

The survivors started blaming the sacrifices on me, forgetting all the lives saved by those sacrifices. They eventually rebelled against my reign. I let them go since i didn`t at the time want any more death under my rule, that however was appeareantly not enough. Me letting them go was misunderstood by others as a sign of weakness. Eventually they tried to kill me.

For this war they build fleets blotting out stars, made with ships specificly designed to kill me. All the latest technologies, all the things that would otherwise seem overkill. Weapons designed to permanently remove something from the face of existence. Of course i couldn't win that war.

But I wouldn't leave without making an example out of those who betrayed me. I would take as many of those traitors with me as i could. I would not go quietly. 4 worlds faced the same fate as me. Eradicated from the galaxy without anything but a mention in the footnotes of history.

After I got betrayed and killed I was left in darkness with nothing to keep my mind awake. I blacked out from time to time which made me wonder about how that could be. If I am dead then how can I black out or think. I don't have a body, I should neither black out nor should I be able to think.

After an unknown amount of time had passed I felt like I should 'look around'. Unsure on how to react to that feeling I tried sending out a psionic signal simmilar to a radar pulse. To my surprise I recieved a feedback signal.

There actually was something here, wherever I was. I now refer to that 'place' as the void. I sent out more signals and recieved clearer feedbacks every time. It was like a world was building before me. I started sending out stronger and more signals, so I could see more clearly whatever it was that caused the feedbacks. It was an actual world, building before me, or at least parts of it. There was actually a world, building before me.

The veil that shrouded my vision started to weaken and I felt like I could reach that world if I only tried. I didn't want to be alone for another eternity so I tried reaching out towards it before I remembered I didn't have a body to reach out with. I had to somehow get me in there before the Veil closed again.

I started panicking and just wished to be there. It worked and I felt the world comming closer, or I was comming closer to it. Still trying to 'see' with my radar I found the weakest point in the barrier shielding this world. Then I blacked out, it couldn't have been for long, but I now felt I had a body.

When I tried to move I started feeling immense pain. A pain so strong, I could have easily lost my sanity if I hadn't started blocking the signals with psi immideately. I noticed that my newly aquired body started undergoing massive changes. The egg i was in exploded and I floated above the ground, while my materialized psionic power visibly flew through me. It was changing the body from what it was to something better, something compatible with my power. The echo of the psionic interference would have been felt by all even faintly psioinc beings in the solar system.

The pain began to subside and I could finally start understanding what had happened. I had ended up in a body that had an underdeveloped brain. My psionic powers instinctively started changing the body, to one better fit for use of my powers or at least one that would't mentally cripple me while i used them.

Still floating and with the purple liquid-like mist surrounding me, I look around me. What I see surprises me a bit. The psionic shockwave of my arrival caused the ground to be burnt and trees to be uprooted. The entire area looked like a warzone, devastated by orbital bombardment. Some of the blown-over trees burned and the ground scorched. It looked like this in a radius of about 100 meters.

I started lowering myself to the ground and focusing. I still needed to learn how to use this new body properly. I should probalby also leave this place before somebody notices what exactly happened here.

Once I was at the ground, the liquid-like purple which was my materialized psionic power dispersed. My body felt weak upon touching the ground and I almost collapsed due to gravity. I almost forgot that this body technically hatched only a couple moments ago.

I start using my psi to reinforce my limbs but feeling this weak is uncomfortable even while knowing I am not actually weak by any means. I feel helpless and small although I am evidently not helpless, even in this body. This body clearly wasn't meant to hatch this early or to be heavily modified like this. I guess this is something I will have to work on in the future.

I start inspecting my body closer and see I have scales. I have black scales and wings, 4 legs. I guessed I was about 1,5 meters tall when sitting. Yup, looks like I am a dragon, not that I'm complaining but it will certainly take some getting-used-to until I feel completely comfortable with the body. Looking closer at my scales i feel like i am gazing into an abyss such as the shroud, before i snap back to reality.

I also noticed that my scales were not actually all that durable, probably again due to the forced early hatching. I tried reinforcing the scales with psi but the results were less than satisfying. Nontheless it was better than nothing. At least until my scales grow stronger naturally or I find a better solution, it will have to be enough.

I tried again to send a psi pulse but I didnt recieve much of a feedback this time. It was like something in this world was blocking loose psi from traveling long distances. In the end I only recieved a readable feedback from things less than 50 meters away, everything beyond that point returned a blurry image, if any at all.

Now that I knew what I looked like I started paying attention to the surroundings beyond the destroyed area. Beyond the 100 meter mark there was snow, but I didn't feel like i was very high up, so it must have been winter or I was far down south or far up north.

That was pretty much all I knew so far about the world at that point.
