As I leave the guild building, I start heading for the city gate to ask the guards where west even is. As a response to my question they pointed into a direction. As I was about to take of, someone ran up to me from inside the city.
Some orange reptilian: "Hey, I heard you were heading to the abandoned mines in the west. I heard you wanted to give a quest in the guild."
Eclipse(Me): "Rumors travel fast don't they?"
The S-rank: "I'm Winza, an S-rank adventurer and i'd like to accompany you on your journey."
Eclipse(Me): "I presume you only heard rumors, but I didn't open a quest."
The S-rank: "Regardless, someone as young as you are, shouldn't go on such a journey alone."
As young as me, huh? Not going to elaborate on that, I stretched my wings, getting ready for takeoff. Suddenly the scaled humanoid started changing into a dragon, before taking off shortly after I did.
Adjusting to the sudden change in situation, I started flying relatively close to him, although it was slow. I didn't want him to see the collection of materials floating above me. Afterall I knew dragons liked valuable objects. To be fair, most sentient creatures do.
I had finally found a suitable power source for the facility I was planning to build. The answer was nuclear fusion. This was not the best source I knew of but it was the only one I could reliably make under the given conditions.
This would of course still require materials, but that was part of the reason I was traveling to the mine. If this adamantium had the required durability, I could synthesize the other required materials with the help of this material.
To modify matter with my psi, I needed an enclosed, super low pressure area to work with and a shell with high durability to conduct the changes within, in case anything went wrong. My goal of building the the chroniton flow stabilizer was finally getting closer.
Obviously the the blissful silence, allowing me to think, didn't last long and only a few minutes after takeoff the S-rank started asking more questions.
The S-rank: "Why do you even want to go there? The place is infested with demons."
Eclipse(Me): "For the adamantium obviously."
The S-rank: "Why put you life on the line, when you could just buy it off of the market."
Eclipse(Me): "Don't have the money to buy all I need of the market."
The S-rank: "Just how much do you need that a platinum coin's worth isn't enough?"
I remain silent as I grow tired of this dialogue. I accelerated, while camouflaging the materials, hoping he couldn't keep up. I was right about him being unable to keep up but I had, obviously, not thought this through, since I forgot that the destination was rather close by and that he would soon catch up. While he landed he transformed back into the previously used form.
The S-rank: "Wow, you're really fast for being so young."
Only shortly after landing, a creature with dark red skin, horns and wings emerged from the woods and started attacking the S-rank. The creature looked simmilar to what was described in one of the books I had read. The description was that of a lesser demon.
Only shortly after, another appeared and attacked the S-rank. The S-rank swiftly defeated both with, what seemed to be, high tier magic, as expected, he just couldn't keep quiet about it.
The S-rank: "Hah, you are no match for ME!" Too bad that his boasting attracted more demons.
Every time he defeated a few demons he had to boast about it and every time he did so, a few new demons appeared. This process repeated easily 5 times, until a demon, closer to the description of that of a high demon and more powerful than the rest appeared.
The S-rank: "Go, flee! I'll buy you some time. Don't worry about me." I won't.
The previously so confident S-rank was now only here to 'buy time'? The demon he was fighting now, was therefore probably way stronger than the others.
I pretended to run away, since now that I had seen how strong an S-rank was. Shortly after I had disappeared from his sight, he started looking for a way out of this before grabbing some sand out of his pocket and throwing it in the demon's face. While the demon was blinded, he transformed into a dragon and flew away as swiftly as he could.
