Chapter 51 - Can't Be True (1)

Frightful gazes were shot my way as I walked to the front desk with a middle-aged lady with black hair swept up into a neat style, stray strands tucked behind her ear. The smile on her face was forced and twitched the closer I approached.

"Good afternoon, what can I do for-"

"Is there a girl named Indigo staying here?" I stopped her mid-sentence, not wanting to hear the pretence. Her lips twitched at the ends, lowering slightly. She quickly deepened the smile to hide her frown.

"Customer's private information is not to be spread around," I chucked a few coins her way.

"Indigo? Yes, she was here for a while but she signed out yesterday," She took the coins sliding them into her pocket.

"Do you remember what she was wearing?"

"Well... I'm not gonna remember every person who passes through here," She put on a distressed face rubbing the side of her face. I scoffed and tossed another coin to her to which she took with a smile.

"She was wearing black as usual, but instead of her usual short dresses, she had a black cloak on over it," I bit my lip. These couldn't be coincidences, right?

"What time did she sign out?"

"Late at night," I nodded my head, considering each clue everything pointed to the girl, Indigo. But the possibility of it being a coincidence was likely.

"Did she say where she was going?" The lady shook her head. I rubbed my temples in frustration. I needed to clear my head from all the stress. I looked up at the still smiling woman and stared at her in her dark brown eyes. "Give me every food on the menu and three jars of milk,"

The food came to my table, and I licked my lips greedily, watching the ten dishes on my table along with three tall glasses of milk. I wolfed down everything, cleaning each plate until it was spotless and not a grain of food remained. I released a roaring burp that echoed in the silent inn. People stared at me, astonishment on their face. Did they not have manners? "Hey mind your fucking business!!" they visibly flinched and turned away. Did they never see a girl eat? What was their issue?

I went to a weapon's shop, but my measly amount of coins that remained after throwing it all the coins on food could only buy a scrapped blunt dagger and flimsy pair of pants and shirt. I left to check up on the gang; Dave and Rick and give them the news of the old man's death. Once I got to the stairwell, multiple guards stopped me.

"Stop there young lady!!" A tall man with blonde hair held me back.

"What is this about? I just want to see my family," Hearing my words. The guard flinched and an awkward smile spread across his face as pity filled his eyes. He looked back to another guard. "Hold for a moment," he went to the black-haired guard, whispering a few things. I tapped my foot on the ground impatiently, but inside worry filled my gut. Why were guards littered around here? Did they find out about the gang? No, it shouldn't cause this much upheaval, so just what was going on?

The blonde-haired guard walked back to me, "Um, miss, well the thing is..."

"Just tell me!" I raised my voice in anger.

"It's best if she sees for herself," the black-haired guard placed a hand on the other guard's shoulder. I shoved past them and walked down the stairs and into the room. My eyes widened, and my body trembled; it was a blood-bath.
