"That's all I need," I looked back into the cave, the monster was right upon us, I took a deep breath, pulled my scythe out and dived in.
Instantly, I felt all my muscles contracting a hundred times a second. It felt a thousand needles were jabbing my skin at once. My heart pounded as if it wanted to free itself from my ribcage. I struggled to stay afloat and struggled, even more, to stay conscious. The waves thrashed me against the cave walls, shaving the skin off and throbbing pain assaulted my head from being crushed against the wall.
"Ha-Ha-Ha" I gasped for breath before being plunged into the water once again. Continuing this cycle for God knows how long, I finally lay limp on the forest floor, my body trembling and twitching erratically. Another growl pounded against my ringing ears. I grunted, forcing my unstable body to stand using my scythe as support.
"FOOL!!" my blurry eyesight adjusted as best it could to the light. The monster that chased me stood with its head held high. The monster was a fox, a gigantic one, I strained my neck to look at its head. The silky white fur shone under the yellow sunlight. The purple eyes that donned its face shone with an eerie, light. The top of its head had purple markings in the shape of a diamond.
I tilted my head in confusion. The monster could talk? Then maybe we could make a deal? "Um... Mr.Fox do you think we can come to a compromise, I didn't mean to intrude in your home, this is just one big mistake," I said, my voice shaking from the constant jolts running up my body.
"Really? If you didn't have ill-intent, then you wouldn't have taken my gold!" It growled. Gold? Did it mean that coin I took? It was one of many. Was it going to fight me over one measly coin?
"I'll give it back," I reached into my pocket with my trembling hand pulling out a coin, it was a gold coin! "Here," I held my hand out to pass it the coin.
"Humph, since you dared to steal, pay with your life!!" It jumped to me, claws ready to slash me. I shook my head, clearing it, bending my body in half to avoid its slash. I dropped to the ground and rolled away and clambered to my feet. My movements were unsteady because of my constantly jolting body that barely responded to my commands.
"Give up human, you're already half-dead, die with your head held high!" Finishing its sentence, it opened its mouth, a purple lightning ball gathering in its wide-open mouth. I ran into the forest, dropped to the floor behind a tree, poking my head out slightly.
I met eyes with the fox's own, but it was too late; he was upon me and released its ball of lightning; I managed to jump behind another tree to escape. The tree I was previously behind instantly went up in flames. I swiped my scythe to the tree, cutting it in half, numbing pain shot up my arms, I ignored the backlash and kicked the trunk toward the white fox.
It easily jumped, avoiding it, but I had already taken off trying to run away. In a matter of seconds, it caught up to me, sending another crackling lightning bolt my way. I clenched my teeth, smashing my body into a tree, dodging it by a millimetre. Sweat poured down my entire body, soaking my drenched clothes further. My mouth hung open as I panted, my eyesight hazy as I struggled to stay conscious.
"Stop running like a coward!!" It growled, anger clear in its voice.
"Al! What should I do!!?" I jumped over a rock
'.... I don't know,'
"Can't you use your power!? You used it back when I killed Barnes!"
'If I did it would kill you because I would use you as a vessel and in your weakened state you definitely won't be able to handle the backlash,' I ground my teeth in anger, I stopped running and turned back to glare at the fox. My red-eye shone as I searched for its blood flow again, but once again a force stopped me.
"Why isn't blood manipulation working!!" I punched my fist into a tree beside me.
'If you are far weaker than your opponent, they can block your attacks,'
"You never mentioned this,"
'... You never asked,' I wanted to curse Al for his stupidity, but I clenched my teeth and held the curses back.
"Fine! You want a fight then you'll get a fight!! Stupid ass, rotten milk-looking ass, looking like an overgrown cat ass, hairy looking pig ass!! Meat probably tasting like leather ass!" I screamed the first things that came into my head.
"You! How dare you! I would have you know my flesh is of the finest quality!"
"Does that mean you admit I should make you into stew ya piece of trash!" If I would die, I would go down grandiosely. The fox growled again and lunged at me.
"I am the legendary Phantom Fox!"
"Who asked you!?" I jumped to the side and rolled, blooms of dust flying in my face. The fox sent another slash my way, I ducked but as soon as I did a lightning bolt struck me on the shoulder burning my dress and the skin underneath leaving a nasty black and purple char. I winced in pain and my face paling as white as a sheet of paper.
I slashed to the fox's legs as soon as it jumped to evade; I twirled my scythe back, hitting it in the side, using the handle as leverage as I pulled myself up higher than the fox. I put as much bodyweight onto the scythe as possible tearing the wound making it even larger. An ear-piercing howl of pain rolled off its tongue. It turned its head to snap at me. I let my hand slide down the handle of the scythe, smashing the handle into the fox's neck just as its teeth were about to pierce my skin. It turned its entire body, showing its pink belly to me to slash its claws into me; I put out the handle of my scythe, blocking its attacks as we fell to the ground, the wind hissing in our ears.
"Damn you!!" It prepared a lightning bolt, smashing it into my charred shoulder. Being too close I couldn't evade in time, I screamed in pain, losing consciousness.
A loud crash woke me up from my stupor, I shook the tiredness from my head. We had plunged into the ground, dust and stones spraying everywhere. I stabbed the end of my scythe into the fox's soft belly exposed to the air, instantly awakening it from its stupor. It threw me off, sending me flying into the wall of the crater created by the fall. The crater sunk into the floor a few hundred meters, brown rocky walls surrounding us from all angles.
I peeled myself from the wall; I was in overdrive mode, with the adrenaline pumping through my body keeping me from fainting. I pushed off the wall as the jolting of my body left my movements unhindered as I focused solely on survival. I swept my scythe to the fox's neck, but just as it was about to evade I pointed the end of my scythe to it, stabbing it in the shoulder. Just as I would dislodge it the fox's teeth snapped over it pulling it out swinging me around with the scythe trying to make me release it but I held it with an iron grip swallowing the vomit rising my throat. Seeing I wouldn't let go it slammed me into the ground, my eyes widened and blood gushed my throat, unable to resist the burst of blood I coughed it up, one cough led to two and two to three, as I kept coughing up my blood soaking the brown floor and bloodying my drenched clothes. I pushed myself off the ground with my scythe, but before I could the fox's paw slammed me into the ground. I coughed up another set of blood, my face paling further.
The fox tried to pull the scythe out of my hand and unable to resist; I released it. The cloth of the glove rubbed off, revealing my bloodied and swollen palm. My breathing shallowed as I looked at the fox with hazy, unfocused eyes. The fox crushed me into the ground further, a crater in the shape of my body forming beneath me.
"It's time for you to die," The fox said as it jumped up the side of the walls of the crater. I watched in silence, too tired to respond. It opened its mouth, showing its gleaming white teeth, but instead of lightning, a wave of water tumbled from its mouth.
'If you get hit by this you'll die, but congrats on synchronizing with your scythe' Al said, 'I advise dodging it,'
"You say this now as I'm about to die?" I whispered with a gritty voice. "Besides, I'm too tired to move," I tried pulling myself up but only my finger twitched. Resigning myself to my fate, I closed my eyes, preparing for my demise, memories flashing behind my eyes in quick succession. Who knew my story would end so quickly.

The water crashed into me, and I felt the life being pulled from me.
