Chapter 56 - Can't Be True (2)

Elize POV

"It's best if she sees for herself," the black-haired guard placed a hand on the other guard's shoulder. I shoved past them and walked down the stairs and into the room. My eyes widened, and my body trembled; it was a blood-bath.

Bodies were scattered across the floor, or rather the remains, pink organs and pieces of bone littered everywhere. The entire room was painted in blood, a thick musky scent assaulting my nostrils. My breath caught in my throat and sweat pooled on my back and forehead, as each drop slid down my head and slipped into my lips, saltiness spreading over my parched tongue. I covered my mouth with a hand as I stepped into the bloody room, walking mindlessly to the room in the back, looking left and right at the exploded bodies. My foot crashed against an object and my eyes widened when my eyes met a lifeless eyeball whose brown eyes lost their sheen, while a thick fleshy nerve clung to it like a bloody worm.

I turned to the side, vomit surging up my throat and out my mouth as my stomach contracted over and over, spilling everything I ate before. The first time in my life I regretted eating, the sour mixture spread over my tongue coating the inside of my mouth. I wiped the side of my mouth stained with vomit and proceeded to the room at the back. I pushed open the door, the squeaking pounding into my ear.

The scene inside the room almost made me lurch again, I ran into the room sitting beside Dave's dead body, his thick pink and purple tongue hanging limply from his mouth, his entire body was white as snow with blue and purple hues. His dark brown eyes open wide enough I worried they would pop from their sockets. I poked his flesh, hard as stone and cold as ice, flies buzzing around his lifeless body. I walked to the other side of the room to Rick's body. He was covered in enormous boils spewing milky white pus. His body was an unnaturally bright red with some parts even charred black. I fell to my knees, my eyes dead as I watched the gruesome scene with a robotic expression. Tears cascaded down my face like a released dam. Someone's hand rested on my shoulder, but I ignored it.

"Young Lady, I know this is hard. What do you want to do from now on?"

"Can I leave this city?" I turned my head to him, looking up at the black-haired guard.

"Well.... you know that we don't let anyone below B-rank leave,"

"I know, but I don't know where to go anymore, I want to head to the next city over," I half-lied, I wanted revenge and to do that I needed to be stronger! I will murder my family's murderer! Don't worry, I'll avenge your deaths. I thought quietly, clenching my teeth.

".... We may be able to pull a few strings,"

"Thank you,"

"No problem, I'll take you to the city gate," He held my hand pulling me up. After carrying me to the gate they questioned me for a while before they let me out, giving me a few coins, a change of clothes, some bread and dried meat.

"Be careful out there," The black-haired guard who I learnt was Bill told me. I waved to him and stepped into the forest.
