"You say this now as I'm about to die?" I whispered with a gritty voice. "Besides, I'm too tired to move," I tried pulling myself up but only my finger twitched. Resigning myself to my fate, I closed my eyes, preparing for my demise, memories flashing behind my eyes in quick succession. Who knew my story would end so quickly.
My body felt hot, as if it was being burnt from the inside out as the boiling pain seared my insides. Assuming this was my pain before death, I shut my eyes tighter, memories flashing behind my eyes. The fun times, the bad times, all of it, flashed past me like I was a mere passer-by to my story. The fiery pain erupted from my pores like a tsunami. Was this what death felt like? It's so strange. I waited for my life to be sucked from my body, but after waiting what felt like an eternity nothing came. I didn't expect that this is what death would feel like. I laid limp, the outside noises not registering in my head.
"I... IN... INN" I shrugged off the faint voice "INDI...INDIGO!! WAKE UP!!" The voice screaming my name was familiar, was I missing something? It sounds like Alphar, wait... Alphar?
"INDIGO! WAKE UP!!" I snapped my eyes open at his voice, but the scene before me differed from what I expected. My eyes widened all around me as thin streams of blood surrounded me, forming a dome, the streams of blood rotating at an alarming speed, kicking up dust and sending wave after wave of wind as they spiralled. Some streams encased me while the others whipped around the area smashing into the ground leaving deep dents, debris flying everywhere.
The turbulent gusts held the water back smashing the waves back, the waves hit against the wall of the crater before crashing against the gales again to only repeat the cycle again and again. The water raged on, foamy waves colliding into one another. Through a tiny space in the dome, I saw Alphar leaping from side to side, dodging the strings of blood as he attempted to near my location. I tried to pull myself from the ground, but my body didn't respond, pasted to the floor.
"Indigo! Release the dome!" Alphar yelled.
'Was he crazy? If I did the water would sweep me away, and I still had lightning flowing through my body. I strained to squeak a voice out, "No, I'll die if I do,"
"I'll pick you up!" He yelled back, his voice fading in the stormy wind.
"How do I know if you'll be fast enough!" I replied.
"Just trust me!!" I shut my mouth, this was my life, how can I be sure I can trust him? All the times I trusted someone, I ended up in a living hell. "Indigo, I promise you, I will save you in time. Place your trust in me, just for once, I beg of you!"
I pursed my lips together, my mind swirling with uncertainty. "Alphar, I...I'll trust you, just this one time. So... don't fail me now,"
"Believe me, I won't," He reassured with a smile. I took a deep breath and slowly peeled the blood away. First the thrashing strings of blood, then layer by layer I drew back the dome from around me till the last layer remained, the only thing keeping me from the raging bellowing of the water.
"Indigo, lift the dome, I'll save you," Alphar said when he noticed my hesitation, I gulped and slammed my eyes shut lifting the last protection from me. I held my eyes closed for moments, moments turned to minutes and yet, I was still alive. I peeked an eye open to meet with Alphar's face, who was hugging me to his chest. We stood at the other end of the crater.
He glanced down at gave me a gentle smile, "I told you, you can trust me," My lips turned up in a faint smile and my eyes softened a tad.
"Thank you," I whispered. Whether I trusted him completely was a big no, but he left an impression on me.
"That's what friends are for, right?" He smiled again and turned to look at the white fox, his expression hardening. An oppressive force rippled off him, but unlike when we sparred it was filled with tremendous bloodlust.
"Baby fox, how dare you lay your filthy paw on my precious friend," He stared at the fox, I looked to the fox to find it bowing face to the ground, trembling in.... fear? I looked back to Alphar. Just who was he?
"Indigo, you can rest now," He smiled and smoothed my hair that was poking into the air. After hearing his words I released just how much pain I was in, it hit me like a boulder after the adrenaline stopped pumping through my veins. My entire body jittered and the agonizing, blazing pain of the burn on my shoulder numbed my entire body. My vision became spotted as my consciousness slipped away.
-------------------------
A stabbing pain radiated from my head as I tried touched my head but found my body wasn't responding. I fluttered my eyes open, the blinding light turning the excruciating knives thrusting in my head worse. Without another word, I fluttered them to a close; the pain simmering down to a barely manageable state.
Something fluffy suddenly grazed against the back of my hand, "Master Alphar! The young lady is awake now!" a sweet melodious voice sounded. I struggled to turn my head to the side, opening my eyes despite the light, pain shooting up my neck as I did. I turned just in time to see a small white fox bounding through the passage leading outside the waterfall.
In a few moments, Alphar peeped his head out of the passage, scanning the room till his eyes settled on me. His face instantly brightened as he skipped to me. Clasping my hands in his. "Indigo! Are you okay? Where does it hurt? Do you want some water?" his sunny smile and eyes filled to the brim with worry. I groaned, closing my eyes. His smile was giving me a headache. "Indigo!"
"Water, please?" I whispered with a raspy voice. His eyes widened, and he rushed to the side, handing me a jug.
"Oh, wait you need help right?" He poured some water in his mouth and leaned down to me, our noses almost touching. A sweet woody scent enveloped his body, hitting my nostrils. His pink plump lips approaching mine.
