Chapter 52 - My Demise? (2)

As I tip-toed into the cave, an eerie feeling washed over me. My hair stood on edge as goosebumps crawled across my body. I rubbed my arms, trying to give myself some warmth. The black abyss thickened as I ventured deeper into the enormous cave, rendering my vision partially useless. I breathed into my palms to transfer my warmth, but my breath instantly froze as it left my mouth, the milky white frost dispersing into the air.

I continued walking, but as I did; it was no longer cold, a shallow warmth hitting my frame in steady succession. The further I travelled, the hotter it became, the heat scalding my skin. My foot suddenly hit something, the object clinking as it fell a few feet away. I looked down, squinting my eyes to see the object. Still unable to see it I squatted, reached my hand down caressing the smooth object. I held it in my hand, putting it close to my face to get a better look. After running my fingers across it, feeling the shape and material, I concluded that it was a coin. After pushing it in my pocket, I trudged forward and ran into many more objects, all of them clinking under my feet. I swept my feet across them, soon realizing it was a sea of coins. I kneeled groping around looking for a potential way to pass when my hand hit a moist silky knob.

Confusion gushed through me, I rubbed it trying to identify the strange knob. My fingers hit a soft furry surface, I caressed it dragging my fingers around; I trailed my finger down, reaching a large flap; I opened it and shoved my finger there, tracing my finger under the wet slimy flap. Why does it feel like a tooth? I dragged my finger down the smooth tooth-like object reaching the tip I poked it lightly. Pain shot through my finger, I reflexively pulled it back. My eyes widened as the realization hit me. I looked up a pair of dark purple eyes stared back at me.

"Shit!" I stumbled up, turned around, bolting for the exit of the cave. A low growl rumbled, crashing into my ears. It was too late in one bound the strange animal bounded towards me.

"Crap! Come slice for your master!" I caught my scythe, swinging it back. The unknown animal jumped back to avoid the strike. I picked up my pace running to the faint light at the end of the tunnel but the slippery cave-floors prevented me from running to my full potential, my feet slipping again and again on the smooth slick rocks.

Another growl erupted from its mouth as a flash of light passed, loud crackling shooting through the sweltering air. I looked back. It was the worst mistake I ever made. A glistening lightning bolt sped towards me. I slashed my scythe down upon it. The lightning disappeared, travelling through the blade. My body jolted as the electric current running through my body numbing me. I ignored the numbing sensations running through me and my shuddering body continuing to run like my life depended on it, which it did.

I tried mustering more strength to use blood manipulation but as I was feeling the colossal animal's blood flow it was as if a huge invisible wall blocked me from exploring it. I clenched my teeth in frustration as I was nearing the exit. My heart pounded with excitement, but from behind me, a loud sloshing sounded. I stiffly turned my head, hoping and praying it wasn't what I thought it was. My prayers were unanswered. A vast wave crashed against the cave walls, rushing with a loud grumble towards my location.

"Fuck!" I yelled. I sped up pushing my body to the limits, I smashed the end of the scythe into the wall of the cave holding onto it for dear life as the water crashed past me. The wall creaked, tiny cracks weaving from where my scythe was connected to the wall. The thundering roars of the monster got closer and closer, my heart thumping faster and faster, and it approached. I gulped down my dry saliva, praying that the water would pass soon so I could escape the enclosing danger.

The water was endless even after waiting for a few minutes. It gushed with a vengeance. I bit my lip staring at the water. My body was still jolting from the lightning, my hair shooting out in odd directions, defying gravity. "Al, how many bets I survive if I jump into this water?" I asked while my hands slipped from the scythe ever so slightly.

'Want me to be honest?'

"I have no time for your games, Al," I snapped

'Pray your pain tolerance and body's durability are high enough,'

"Is it?"

'Maybe, maybe not,'

"That's all I need," I looked back into the cave, the monster was right upon us, I took a deep breath, pulled my scythe out and dived in.

I yelled
