Chapter 10 - Goldendust The Punishment

Starpaw was planning on getting food for both her and Goldendust.

As Starpaw walked up to the fresh kill pile, she observed Bluepaw there. Starpaw immediately started to trot up to her.

Before Starpaw could say hi to Bluepaw, Longtail had something to say.

"It must be hard taking care of that old hag Goldendust while you see us leaving camp to train and hunt. I bet you must be praying and hoping that you could be outside of camp hunting like us!" meowed Longtail with an attitude that you wish you could throw right back in his face.

Before Longtail could keep on making Starpaw feel more terrible than she already felt, Bluepaw interupted Longtail by meowing, "Don't worry, Starpaw! I bet Firestar will have you back to training sooning or later!"

This certainly brightened up Starpaw's mood as Longtail left to his duties. Starpaw was wondering on how their trainings were going.

During Starpaw's thought process, she looked up to identify the she-cat that had attacked her on her first day here, whose name was apparently Sandpaw - something she heard Graypaw say.

"We are doing battle training. He is going to teach me how REAL warriors fight. Unlike you of course," meowed Sandpaw with pride.

Starpaw ignored what she said at the end and just asked, "All right, what about you, Bluepaw? Is Rednose teaching you anything special?"

Bluepaw suddenly got really excited just by the sound of her training. She proceeded to start jumping up and down while meowing, "Yes he is. He didn't say where, but he is taking me to a new area of this part of the forest I've never been before. He told me he is going to teach me how to climb like a pro. I better start heading there now, see you later, Starpaw."

"Cya later, Bluepaw!" meowed Starpaw loudly as Bluepaw quickly left the freshkill pile, starting to walk up to Rednose.

As Starpaw started walking to Goldendust with freshkill, she immediately got up at the smell of fresh kill.

"Took you long enough. I almost thought that Firestar's plan was to kill me by straving me!" meowed Goldendust.

Goldendust and Starpaw sat down together and starting munching on their prey - which was a rabbit and a mouse.

They actually started to have a normal conversation without any hissing.

"Hey, do you mind taking a look at my tail? It's getting a bit furry," asked Goldendust.

Starpaw quickly finished her mouse and went behind Goldendust to look at her tail, all the while munching on her rabbit.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a kit playing the game "Leaders" wasn't looking and bumped into Goldendust meowing, "I, Firestar, will make sure you feel my fangs, Brokenstar!"

Then, the little kit bumped into Goldendust. Even though Goldendust wasn't ever "nice nice" before, it seemed she got meaner or more protective.

"Stay away, you scrap of fur!" hissed Goldendust.

The little kit squealed in fear, "S-sorry!"

The little ran quickly ran back to the other kits, their mother giving a stern look at Goldendust, but lightening up at the scene of her kits playing.

"I think the kits are tired of being confined to the camp grounds. They are getting restless, go easy on them," Starpaw gently meowed.

Goldendust did not give back the same energy. "I don't care how restless they are! Just get these fur balls away from me!"

Starpaw asked incredulously, "Don't you like kits? Did you ever have kits of your own?"

Goldendust's suddenly became very quiet, her expression morphing to that of anger.

However, she didn't end up scrapping. Instead she hissed, "Don't you know that medicine cats can't have kits of their own?!"

"But you said that you were a warrior before that. Didn't you have the chance to have kits?" rebutted Starpaw as she had remembered what Goldendust had hissed during the meeting.

"Idon't have kits!" yowled Goldendust. However, it seemed like she was angry by something worse than hating kits.

"Okay, I'm sorry I made you angry. Your tail has a lot of ticks though. I couldn't really pull them out." Starpaw remorsefully meowed, hoping to change the subject so Goldendust could calm down.

"Well, I do hope that you didn't even try to pull any ticks out, you idiot! I don't need any thin heads butting in my rear, thank you very much! Ask Spottedleaf for some mouse bile to rub on them. Splash of that in their breathing holes and they'll loosen their grip," meowed Goldendust.

"Oh I'll get some now~!" meowed Starpaw as this is the 100th time she had to go and get something for Goldendust.

As Starpaw walked into Spottedleaf's den, she kindly asked Spottedleaf, "May I have some mouse bile? Goldendust has ticks on her tail."

"In a moment," Spottedleaf meowed back as she was in the middle of mixing herbs.

"If you're busy, I can come back later," Starpaw meowed as she kind of hoped Spottedleaf would say yes so Starpaw could relax a bit more.

"No, don't worry, you're fine. What was it you wanted? Mouse bile, right?" meowed Spottedleaf as she gazed at Starpaw.

"Yes, please," replied Starpaw.

"Here is the mouse bile. Make sure you apply it gently, and don't forget to wash your paws after applying or else you would have a bad tongue for days. Don't wash your paws with your tongue but in a stream!" informed Spottedleaf. "Oh, and you better not keep Goldendust waiting, Starpaw. Throughout my time as a medicine cat, I know that when a cat has ticks, they aren't as nice."

Starpaw immediately straightened up and trotted back to Goldendust.

-

"Great, there you are. Now hurry and help me get them off me. These ticks aren't that comfortable!" meowed Goldendust.

"Okay, okay, I'm starting. Hold still - Stop moving so much!" warned Starpaw.

"Well, I'm trying here!" replied Goldendust.

"There we go! That's that!" meowed Starpaw as she finished getting the last of the ticks off. It was quite a difficult ordeal as Goldendust kept moving her tail.

Goldendust proceeded to sigh. "Thanks, kittypet, that feels much better. Now shoo!"

Starpaw obeyed Goldendust and started heading to a stream nearby to wash her paws like Spottedleaf said to.

As Starpaw reached the stream and started washing the leftover mouse bile in the stream, she heard a cat nearby.

She acted normal, waiting for the cat to come closer to her so that she can jump them.

When the time finally came, Starpaw turned around and jumped on the hidden cat.

"Ravenclaw?!"
