Chapter 17: Wilfred the Loyal Keeper
The fifth floor was designed as the waiting area for those who wanted to enter the wish chamber. The fifth tower would be bustling of people. But, after the incident, the whole floor was nothing but bare walls and floor.
The whole floor gave an eerie feeling. The ten people proceed with caution. The fifth floor was dark. It was enveloped in darkness.
The only sound they could heard were their breathing and sounds of their steps. Everyone deserved to be called a top players. They were all calm and collected.
They knew that they have to be calm not because it was only a game. Players who played virtual reality games should prepare themselves with the gruesome effects.
Not everything was painted in rainbows. Leonel, as the front stopped and gestured for them to be quiet.
He heard a faint rustle of clothes. It didn't come from them but from some distance. It was near yet far. He could feel that since they entered the fifth floor, there was someone eyeing them.
"Do you feel it too?"
"Yes. It was observing us."
"It was definitely Wilfred. How come the Hell difficulty was eerie like heaven and earth compared to other difficulties."
"Shh… lower your voice. I could hear some faint movement."
"What do you think Liam?"
"I think that we should go and fight him. It would definitely talk first like Dorian."
"I second that."
Everyone nodded and didn't delay anymore. They saw that the stairs was blocked by a black web like thing.
Suddenly, the room brighten up. They squinted their eyes and made a formation based on instinct. They all had their backs facing each other.
They faced different directions. They all covered their blind spots.
A laugh echoed throughout the whole floor. It was a man with a high pitch voice. Then it lowered into a deep and baritone voice.
Goosebumps raised on Liam's body. The reaction brought by creepiness of the event made Liam think twice about the realness of the game.
"Impertinent fools, do you really think you can pass me? Go back!"
The snickered laugh sounded everywhere.
"Show yourself!"
"You are looking for your deaths."
A hazy black mist gathered near the stairs. Inside the mist, a vague human-like formed. A hand came out of the mist. It was a thin hand that looked like it rose up from the dead.
Wilfred, or supposed to be, came out of the mist. He looked like a dried up dead body. A ragged clothes covered his whole body that made him more like zombie.
He looked at the group disdainfully. "Humans, oh humans. Humans blinded by greed. All of you, never cease to amaze me. Insects."
"You-"
Wilfred laughed at them and gave them a long side gaze. "Yes. Of course, I was once a human. Hahahaha. Of course! How could I forget my once pitiful form. A form which succumbed to death sooner. But now! Now! Look at me! I am immortal!"
"You're crazy!" Black Hope finally shouted his retort.
"Oh, a human with the same color as me. I never thought that you were the one who would retort me."
"Let's end this conversation. Let the God of Light washed away your sin!" Xavier said then unsheathed his sword.
"Yes, I'm gonna end your pitiful life."
Wilfred moved. He grabbed Black Hope and with a sound of 'poof' he suddenly disappeared.
Yes, he disappeared. The team was at shocked first but redeemed their calm.
"We could only try without our priest. Careful."
[Wilfred, the Loyal Keeper
Lv. 26 Heroic Mode
HP: 1,500,000/1,500,000
MP: 1,000,000/1,000,000
Description: Corrupted by his greed. He succumbed to his evil wish and fallen to the great evil. He was once a pure hearted person but a tragedy brought him to where he was.]
Xavier made the first move. He could only do basic attack without any skills to back up his damage. He might be the most pitiful on the team. A unique class without any active skill.
Liam was only daze for a moment before he sprung up and gave Xavier a helping hand.
Wilfred, of course was a mage and priest, could heal and use magic to deal with them. Wilfred couldn't use his magic due to Liam and Xavier's timely attack.
The other seven didn't idle. They also gave a timely support to the other two.
Wilfred's life reached a dangerous level. It was almost 30%. Like a ghost, he was unaffected by any physical attack, chanted his skill.
Everyone stopped their attempt to disrupt Wilfred's skill. Olivia also readied her most powerful spell.
Xavier, Liam, Leonel, Velkner, and Yehan retreated a safe distance of 15 feet. Luckily, these bosses didn't have any domain. They could only pray that they could finish the dungeon without facing anyone who has a domain.
Wilfred finished his chant and healed himself to 100%. Yes, he healed himself to full health. Everyone saw what happened and they could only do was bring it back to low health.
"Insects, did you really think you could kill me? Now, face my wrath!"
Wilfred chanted another spell. It could be his special move. Everyone didn't give him any chance to finish his spell. They disrupted Wilfred with all their might.
If Wilfred could heal himself to full health with only one spell. Then, they were sure that he could also wipe them out with one successful spell.
Wilfred could attack physically. They were first relief, but they didn't let their guard down.
Wilfred may not have a high physical damage and defense, he at least have a great magic defense and damage.
Wilfred swung his rod to the insects, like he called them, and deal a small amount of health. This small amount may look small at first but without a healer and facing a healer was really hard.
They could only exert greater effort. "He's reaching 30%. Deal minimal damage. I'll get ready to attack and disrupt him. Olivia, you too!"
Everyone nodded and looked at Wilfred. He only have 30.02% health. Of course, they could see the percentage of the boss' health.
Zigz also tried to summon a magic attack true gambling. Of course, he failed miserably.
"Now!"
Wilfred's life reached 30%. Like what they have predicted, Wilfred was once again, his whole body became invulnerable with any physical damage.
Before Wilfred finished his chant Liam's skill arrived and disrupted him.
Wilfred was shocked like he never expected to be attacked when he was on his ghost state. He took a step back and received another attack from Olivia. The successive attack of Olivia and Liam cancelled Wilfred's ghost state.
The remaining damager attacked Wilfred without wasting any moment. Velkner and Leonel used their skill charge and sandwiched Wilfred between them.
Because they were playing Heroic mode, it produced an effect. Wilfred was stunned. Rain used this chance to shoot his Fatal Shot and attacked Wilfred's eye. He could only hope that hitting the eye could blind Wilfred.
Fortunately, he succeeded. Xavier attacked at the front, while Ye Han at the back as a ninja. Ye Han was only an upgrade of an assassin. Ninja's specialty was attacking the enemy by surprise.
The successive blow triggered a hidden effect. Wilfred was stunned dazedly for a while. Liam also joined the attack.
Wilfred's life decreased slowly. The good thing was, Wilfred never recovered from his status. He was struck repeatedly until he finally died.
He only produced a painful croak. Liam, Xavier, Ye Han, Velkner, Misha, and Rain leveled up.
The group stayed silent for a while and panted.
"This boss is really something."
"No shit, sherlock! I almost died because of his continuous small damage!"
Liam looked at Ye Han and Velkner arguing. He couldn't help but produce a tired smile. He was glad that they could kill Wilfred without a priest.
If he could turn back time, he would bring two healers. No used crying over spilled milk, so they say.
Ye Han, like he only remembered, picked up the spoils.
"Oh shit!" He exclaimed that made everyone looked at him. "Sorry, I was just shocked."
He sent the items that they got from killing Wilfred.
Wilfred's Tear (Accessory) (Unique)
Type: Necklace
Healing spell +20%
Mana Recovery +30%
INT +30
Wilfred's Tear(Active): Recover the target's life by 100%. (Cooldown: 1Day)
Wish Potion (small) (consumable) x9
Use to gain a small wish inside the Tower of Wish
"That's all?"
"Yeah. He only gave two items."
Everyone was disappointed. They fought one of the hardest enemy within their level but only gave 1 item and a consumable.
"So, because Liam made the greatest contribution he will get the necklace." Ye Hang said.
All of them gave their approval. They all had the same opinion. Without Liam's skill, they could only try again from the start.
Olivia also gave her approval and didn't try to content with the necklace. They already talked about the spoils before they started.
Whoever gave the best contribution get his first item, then divide the remaining to the others.
Of course, they never thought they'll get consumables. Fortunately, each of them could receive one. The scroll was with Black Hope. Unfortunately, he disappeared and they didn't know where he was.
They got their share and they all decided to rest. The battle was only starting. Two bosses remaining but they knew that the information they have from the normal to nightmare difficulty weren't reliable.
They could only proceed with caution. But, unexpectedly, darkness was looming within them.
