Chapter 18 - SURVIVING THE FALL

Syra did not have an idea of how long she passed out or how did she even manage to reach the riverbank in the first place, knowing that she did not know how to swim.

The rain had long gone now but the grasses, as well as the soil below her, were still moist. A black trench coat was also wrapped around her body to protect her from the cold night draft.

Checking herself for any casualties, Syra heaved a sigh of relief when she found none. She thought that she would really die for good back then but thanks heavens that she did not.

Or did she????

When that thought crossed Syra's mind, she immediately checked herself again.

This time, however, she deliberately stopped herself from breathing for a minute or two. Only when she felt that her lungs were still desperately craving for oxygen did she confirmed to herself that she was still alive and kicking.

'PHEW'

Syra gasped for air after holding her breath for almost a minute but she had a satisfied smile on her face. At least she was still alive.

"But how???"

She wondered to herself, and at the same time, she also tried her best to recall what happened. Rummaging through her memory, Syra was soon reminded of seeing a man plunging into the water shortly after she fell.

She even recalled grabbing onto him. Unfortunately, that was all that she could remember before darkness soon took over her.

Looking around her, Syra realized that the place was still and silent.

"God is still looking after me, after all."

She thought to herself while sporting a hopeful face. Despite all the misfortune that she had gone through within just a single day, Syra still chose to look at the brighter side of the situation.

Syra looked around her and found a small necklace next to her. For some reason, the necklace looked familiar.

However, she could not exactly put a finger when or where she had seen it before.

"I suppose this belongs to the man who saved me?"

She said as she picked up the necklace and observed it.

"Maybe I accidentally took this away from him when I grabbed him. How I wish I could have just at least say thank you to my savior."

Syra lamented to herself. But thinking that there was no point in her wallowing over something that she did not have control over, she decided to put it at the back of her mind and moved on.

After a short while, Syra gathered her strength and rose to her feet.

Now that she finally had time to think about things, it was then that Syra also realized that it was indeed a bit odd that she found herself totally dry despite her previous fall into the water.

However, thinking that it was maybe because she had been unconscious for a considerable length of time; long enough to allow her clothes and hair to air dry on its own she decided to not pay it any heed anymore

Little did she knew that it was Clyde's sorcery that actually helped her to dry up quickly as he reckoned that it was the least that he could do for the other party since he would be leaving her alone in the dark.
