"What about him?"
Syra asked while looking in Naomi's direction. The cat sure was cute but the fact that it possessed a human voice and could actually speak was what bothered Syra the most.
There was no way an ordinary cat could talk!
"My name is Naomi. I am a cat, obviously?"
Naomi replied to Syra while at the same time rubbing his body affectionately against his master's leg.
Meanwhile, seeing the disbelief in Syra's eyes, Clyde picked up his cat and then explained at Syra afterward.
"Naomi used to be an ordinary tomcat, just like the others, but since he was now my pet, I gave him an upgrade. After all, what is my magic for?"
Clyde said with a shrug.
"And you are???"
Syra asked because the other party already introduced his cat but not himself.
"My name is Clyde. Clyde Abenson."
"Eh??? So it is you, after all."
Syra said in recognition when she finally confirmed that the other party was indeed the owner of the wallet as well as the same person who saved her from drowning.
However, Clyde did not get what she was trying to insinuate right away so he was left in confusion
"Huh? Who? Me?"
"I mean, the one who saved me on the river. It was you, right?"
Syra asked to confirm her previous assumption.
"Ohh yeah, right about that. Actually, I thought you already know about it that was why you came to see me. To be honest with you, I actually don't exactly plan to save you back then but I don't want to be haunted by my conscience as well. After all, it was not like you would fall off the bridge in the first place if you did not try to save me."
Clyde replied with all honesty.
"Err... I see. Anyway, I still want to thank you for saving me back then, even if you don't intend to do that. I don't know how to swim so if it was not for you, I would probably dead by now."
"You owe me one then."
"Well, not exactly. As you've said, I tried to save you first. So rather than claiming we owe one another, we could just call it quits."
" Alright, if you said so. By the way, have you read the contract already?"
"Contract??? What contract???"
Syra asked back in confusion and judging from the crease forming on her forehead, it seemed that she really did not have an idea of what the other party was talking about it.
"I am talking about the one that you had in your hand."
Clyde replied then he gestured at Syra to see it for herself. When Syra glanced at her right hand, it was only then that she realized that she indeed was holding something.
She unrolled the parchment in her hand and to her surprise, she could actually read the words written on it!
"Was my dyslexia finally cured?"
Syra thought out loud. Her voice, a mix of bewilderment and amazement. Then she looked at Clyde with a whole new level of appreciation
However, when Clyde saw this, he quickly shook his head in denial
"As much as I wanted to get credit for that, it is not my doing. In fact, I don't even have an idea of how you manage to read those words. Supposedly, the Marcellian calligraphy should not make sense when seen by the nonmagic humans."
"But what is this for?"
Syra asked as she observed the parchment in her hand.
There was nothing out of ordinary on the contract but knowing the origin of the contract was not ordinary, that only made Syra more suspicious.
"That is a blood contract. Once you signed it, it means that you are accepting my job offer."
"You said, I will only have to attend the house right? Are you sure that is all I have to do?"
"Precisely. Why? Do you think you could serve other purposes than that???"
Instead of answering her question, Clyde only asked her back with a scoff. Then he eyed her up and down from head to toe.
"Well, you cannot exactly blame me for being skeptical. After all, I am not talking to a human but a witch."
Syra reasoned out but Clyde also had something to say.
"How many times do I have to tell you?? I am not a witch, I am a warlock. Besides, who told you that humans could be more trustworthy than we are? From what I know, your kind was the most deceptive of all the creatures to ever exist in this universe."
"Err... I cannot exactly argue with that as I could not agree more."
Syra once again turned bashful when she was once lectured by the other party.
"It is good that you know that."
Clyde nodded his head in satisfaction then waited for Syra's response.
