Chapter 23 - I AM NO ORDINARY MAN

Syra ran around the place like a headless chicken and Clyde did not stop her, he just let her did as she pleased since she would not get far from him anyway.

There was no way she could escape him, the room was surrounded by nothing but walls and without his enchantment, no one would be able to leave the place.

Meanwhile, Syra desperately felt in the dark. She convinced herself that the exit was somewhere within those walls.

"HEEEEEELLLLLPPP!"

She screamed until her voice already turned coarse. But obviously, no one would be able to hear her.

Tears started to stream down Syra's face when she realized how hopeless her situation was.

"Is this really the end for me???"

She wondered to herself.

The girl was now slowly losing her resolve but she did not let that show on her face. Despite her regressing hope, Syra still continued to pace the floor nervously as she tried to think of a way on how she could possibly escape and saved herself.

Meanwhile, Clyde watched silently in the side. He did not have the spare energy to make the other party see some sense so he just allowed her to process the information by herself.

Hopefully, she could come to terms with it. Clyde even reckoned that he was already considerate enough to let Syra have some time to think.

However, due to the other party's wobbling legs; probably as a result of her fatigue, fright, and hunger combined altogether, Syra accidentally tripped on her own feet making her lost her balance and fell on the ground.

Yet just when she was about to hit the ground, face first at that, her body suddenly went stiff and she felt light.

Also, she did not fall completely on the ground as though the time was momentarily frozen and instead, she found herself floating an inch high on the floor!

"For once, could you please calm down? You are only hurting yourself."

Clyde's voice sounded from behind her and without prior warning, Syra found herself being carried by the thin air towards the direction where Clyde was standing.

"Miss Syra Wright, I am here to offer you a job."

Clyde said as calmly as he could but the tone of impatience on his voice was still noticeable

"Job? What job????"

"Geez! Did you not said it yourself? You already saw our job notice at the entrance."

Naomi butted in to remind Syra. Then Clyde went on to discuss the specifics of the job offer.

"For some unknown reason, you seemed to be capable of reading the ancient Marcellian calligraphy and since that was the case, I am giving you a chance to be my apprentice. Basically, you did not have to do anything much as I prefer doing everything by myself. All you have to do is to keep the house tidy at all times. Sounds good, right?"

"So, basically I will work as a housekeeper then? Is that it?"

Syra asked tentatively to confirm if she understood him. Somehow, the idea indeed sounded good. After all, she was not in the position to be choosy either.

Besides, it was not like she had other options. Syra did not exactly have a choice because it did not seem that the other party would let her go easily if ever she would turn him down.

"Say 'NO' and you die, or say 'YES' and you will live. The decision is yours to make."

Clyde prompted when he saw that Syra was contemplating.

"But how can I make it sure that you are not trying to lure me only to kill me afterward?"

Syra asked as she still had her reservations towards the other party's motive.

"If I am really planning to kill you, I should have killed you already. Why do you think I would even bother talking to you, in the first place?"

Clyde asked her back instead with an upturned eyebrow.

"Err... You got a point there."

Syra replied sheepishly when realization dawned on her.

Just like the other party said, there was indeed no need for him to go at such the extent of luring her in if what he was planning to do was to kill her in the end, because if that was really his motive, he could just do it right away.

"Alright. I'm in. But could you please tell me first what are you exactly?"

In the end, Syra surrendered to her fate but that did not mean that she would not let her curiosity win.

"As you see, I am no ordinary man. I am a warlock."

Clyde replied with a nonchalant attitude as though that was the most common thing to be expected.

"So you are a witch!"

Syra on the other hand gasped upon hearing the other party identifying himself. Her jaw almost fell to the ground. Her mouth was left agape that she looked no different from a fish that had fallen offshore.

"No, I am not. As I've said I am a warlock."

Clyde reiterated but Syra once again argued.

"Yes, you are. A warlock, a boy witch."

"Whatever!"
