It was then that a blinding light flashed from Joshua's scales and fur lighting up the cave for a brief moment.
Strangely Joshua could see perfectly fine even with the sudden bright flash of light.
'Not bad. This could be useful in a dire situation or in a fight. I could use this to give myself an opportunity to surprise my enemy.'
'The only problem is that it probably won't do much good in the day. During the night though, it will definitely be a nasty surprise for my enemies.'
'I only used a bit of the light elements as I didn't have much stored in me at the moment. I'll have to see how much I can store and use during the day.'
'Now on to my light shroud skill.'
'Instinctively knew how to use it the moment I got the skill. It seems to work like an active skill in games.'
Joshua urges his skill to activate, but is confused when he noticed nothing was happening.
'What going on? Why won't it activate?'
Joshua looks back at the skill description to try to glen more information from the skill.
'It says to hide in the light. Does that mean I can't use it now because there is no light?'
'That's a good explanation, but that would mean that this skill is only useful during the day.'
'Just great. I have one skill that's only good for the day and one that's only good for the night.'
'Though it's not a hundred percent that way until I test it in the morning, but it's likely to be as I guessed.'
Joshua then checked outside the cave again and confirmed that it would still be about another three hours before the sun rises.
'I guess I'll take a nap for now. I just went through a lot, ranking up and all that.'
Joshua lays down and closes his eyes relieved that he has finally took his first steps in this new world.
...
Maybe it was because ranking up had tired Joshua out, but it wasn't until the afternoon that he finally woke up.
'It's the afternoon already? That's fine too I guess, it's not like I have a busy schedule to follow like when I was a human anyways.'
Joshua lazily yawns and steps out of the cave to finish testing his skills.
'First, I'll just passively absorb the sunlight for now to see how much light elements I can store in my body.'
'Now let's try out my Light Shroud again.'
Joshua once again urges his skill to activate and this time a noticeable change occurs. His body looks as if there were waves moving on his body and he slowly faded out of existence.
'Woah...' Joshua exclaimed as he looked at his own paw that had turned somewhat invisible.
It was only somewhat invisible as the outline of his body was pretty obvious. Unless his enemy was stupid, blind, or extremely far away they would easily be able to spot Joshua.
'Hopefully it improves as the skill levels up.'
It was then that the skill was forcefully canceled.
'The duration is also trash. It only lasted for 5 seconds before it was cancelled. I can also instinctively tell that I have to wait I need to wait a whole minute to use the skill again.'
'One minute for 5 seconds of trash is just not worth it.'
'Maybe I should have just ranked up into the bear.'
Of course Joshua was just joking as he knew his skill would improve with levels. Additionally evolving into a bear would impair his chances of revenge on the wolves.
As while bears were stronger than wolves and had a thick hide they are not as agile as wolves.
This is especially prevalent with a pack of wolves.
This reason was also another cause for Joshua not to pick the Hunting Bear, no matter how much he favored bears over wolves.
Of course the Hunting Bear could have been an agile Bear as Hoshua didn't know what the difference between a Hunting Bear and a regular Bear, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
Finishing with the tests he could do at the moment, Joshua heads to the field while passively absorbing the light elements on the way.
Seeing the field in sight he decides to move a bit farther away from the village as the towns people would not be very receptive forwards a giant white wolf near their home. Joshua would be lucky if they didn't surround and kill him on the spot if they saw him.
Joshua also saw this as a chance to be get used to his body. Staying in the outskirts of the forest he dashed along the field away from the village.
He was fast. Seriously fast.
He made it back near the area he first came to this world in but two hours. What took him days to traverse as a Yaban now was child's play to Josh as a Direwolf.
'Not only am I fast, but I also have a ridiculous amount of stamina from being a wolf. The whole way I never needed to stop even once.'
'While sprinting I had instinctively consumed some of the light elements stored in me. I think I got a bit faster and stronger from jawing a bit of it on my body.'
'That means not only can I store light elements for healing, but I can also use it to temporarily improve my stats and for a blinding flash.'
'This Light Absorption skill just gets better and better.' Joshua thinks with a smile.
'Anyways here is as good a spot as any.'
Joshua decides that he has gone far enough and decides to enter the field to lay in the sun to absorb the light elements.
But when he entered the field the Yabans and Horned Yabans in the field instantly got alerted.
'Grrrr...'
The Yabans retreated and tried to run away with their stubby legs while the horned Yabans growled at Joshua warily with obvious fear shown on their faces.
This shocked Joshua and it was at this moment that Joshua realized.
'I'm not one of them anymore...' Joshua realizes with a hint of sadness in his eyes.
