The wolf was confused because it could not see any wolf near it, but it could still smell one.
Joshua seeing that the wolf might be catching on to him let's go of his hesitations and acts.
'Now!'
Joshua pounces out from the bush, shocking the wolf. Joshua takes advantage of the time interval of the wolf being shocked to turn his head sideways midair and bites savagely onto the unsuspecting wolf's neck.
*SNAP!*
The wolf's neck is instantly snapped by Joshua's immense strength as a Direwolf. Being of a higher tier and species, even if the wolf fought head on with Josh there would still be little chance of it making it out alive.
Joshua looks at what he had just done and strangely feels normal. The blood and bits of raw flesh in his mouth strangely tastes good, Josh thought.
Joshua realizing what he just thought begins to feel nauseas at what he had become. Even when he was a Yaban he had tried to keep morals and values of when he was still human.
It now donned on him how much of that humanity was slowly slipping away.
'I'm not human anymore and I need to accept that.'
Joshua tells himself that, but still feels a bit disappointed in himself. Joshua decides that he just wasn't in the mood to carry out the rest of his plan to follow the wolves to their den.
He decides to carry the corpse of the wolf back to his home to eat and as a way to tell himself that he is no longer a human, but now a Direwolf.
'I hope you go to Yaban heaven.'
Joshua looks at the corpse of the fallen Yaban. He can't bring himself to eat a Yaban, so he leaves it there and prays for it's soul.
'I'll just head back to the cave and call it a day. Tomorrow I can't be so weak anymore. I'll follow them to their den then.'
After making it back to the cave Joshua puts the corpse down and stares at it.
The smell of blood excites and urges him to feast on the meal in front of him, but Joshua hesitates.
'*sigh*(internally) in the end I am now no longer a human. I shouldn't fight against my instincts.'
Giving into his instincts Joshua gorges on the dead wolf leaving nothing, but bones.
'I wonder if this counts as cannibalism since we are both considered wolves. Though I'm a Direwolf and not exactly a normal wolf, we can be considered related species.'
'No use thinking about it now that I've eaten the whole thing.'
Joshua goes to a corner and lays down calling it a day.
...
It is now day and Joshua is once again laying in the sun practicing his skills. He also noticed that the dried blood on his fur dropped off this morning as if it had some kind of natural coating, which Joshua that was pretty neat (pun intended).
After all he didn't want his beautiful luscious fur being stained with dirty blood now did he?
'I wonder what I should do today. I don't have anything to do until nightfall anyways.' Joshua ponders feeling bored at the monotonous use of his skills.
'Maybe I should explore the area, after all I won't get lost with my sense of smell anyways.' With this thought in mind, his wanderlust is triggered.
'This is a whole new world after all! I should take this chance to look around and come back before sunset. I've been at this place for over a month and haven't explored anywhere even though this is a brand new world.'
'That's quite uncharacteristic of me.'
With a smile on his face he gets up and heads into the forest in a random direction away from the field and village.
Joshua begins to pick up speed and dash deeper into the forest whilst consuming a bit of light elements stored in him to buff himself and practice his skill at the same time.
Joshua was feeling relaxed as he could finally take a breather from all the drama and immerse himself in his old hobby (to travel).
Joshua would sometimes stop to take in the wondrous scenery and just be in the moment.
It was only when he was in the middle of running again that he had to abruptly stop. He saw a giant Boar up ahead.
The Boar was about as large as him and has yet to see him, so Joshua decides to measure the enemy first.
Focusing on the boar he was able to find out what kind of star life form it was.
*(1-star life form)
'One star life form? Looking at it it is definitely at least tier 2, so it must have been born as a tier 2 species.'
'I'm jealous, but now is not the time to drown in my envy.'
Joshua decides to that now was a good time as any to test himself further. Josh was also confident that he could escape the boar if anything went wrong.
'Boars can charge fast, but they are not that agile. Worst comes to worst I can escape and throw it off.'
Joshua first tries to quietly get as close to the boar as he could without alerting the creature.
'I'm close enough now. I'll use my light shroud skill and pounce on it!'
Joshua decides to leap using his skill at the same time.
The boar noticed this and looks up only to see a strange distorted area in the shape of a wolf jumping at it.
The boar was confused and forgot to get out of the way allowing for Joshua to get to it, piercing it's left eye with his sharp claws.
Joshua followed up with a savage bite to the the neck, but the boar's thick skin made it so that it couldn't deal any fatal damage.
"Grreuh!"
The boar at this moment snapped out of it growling and hurling Joshua into trunk of a tree.
Joshua is stunned and the boar in its fury decides to charge towards Josh to pulverize him into oblivion.
