Chapter 14 - Lone Wolf 14

Joshua decisively turns back around torwards the forest without looking back at the Yabans.

The Yabans see this calmed down, but still watched his back warily in case of Joshua turning back.

Joshua could feel their wary eyes behind his back.

The back of the white wolf headed into the forest looked oddly lonely and weak. Which was odd as just by looking at the wolf's outer appearance it could be described as mighty and majestic even.

But now the wolf looked like a lone tree shaking against the storm.

Though the little event dampened Joshua's mood, he did not let it waver his will. Joshua was determined to walk the path of godhood even if that meant he had to walk that path alone.

After reaffirming his determination Joshua proceeds to a spot in the forest where the leaves were sparsely scattered letting a good amount of sunlight hit the ground.

Joshua with his mood dampened had lost the excitement he had earlier and just lays down in the sunlight resting his eyes.

...

He patiently waited there as he slowly absorbed the light elements in the air. It took three hours before his body could not absorb any more of the light elements.

'This is about three times the amount of light elements I had when I first tried out the blinding flash.'

'This means I can do about three of those short flashes or if I want I can make a big flash consuming all of it at once. Though that wouldn't be very smart as I can also use them to buff myself and heal myself in case of emergencies.'

'For now I'll just keep practicing my skills to try to gain as much proficiency before night falls. It doesn't seem possible to level it up in one afternoon anyways.'

'Once it's night I'll officially start my revenge plan.' Joshua thinks with a murderous glint in his eyes.

Even after all this time Joshua would never forget his first night and what he had to go through then.

'Since I'm not strong enough to get rid of the alpha now, I'll pick off at his pack until I'm confident enough to take on his pack.'

'I'll get rid of the normal wolves one by one and reduce their numbers. I'll use guerrilla tactics to hit and run.'

Joshua had already resolved himself to kill when he saw Ban being murdered. He also strengthened this resolve when he killed his first rat as a Yaban, though that left him feeling sick for the next few days.

'That's the smart plan before I can become strong enough to get the alpha. Just rushing straight in would be dumb. I mean, I have human intelligence so I might as well use it.'

'Maybe I can follow the wolves when they retreat to see if I can find their den. If I can find their den then maybe I can come up with a way to kill them when they are unprepared at their den.'

'That way I wouldn't need to wait for the night to attack them, I could pick at them during the day as well when I can use my light shroud skill.'

Joshua just waits for the sun to set hiding in a large bush(which took him a while to find a bush big enough to hide a Direwolf).

His watches as the sun sets and looks at the Yabans grouping up and hiding. Now he only need to patiently wait for the wolves to come.

"Awhoo!"

His patience does not flog unrewarded as in only an hour Joshua could hear the howling of the wolves.

Hearing the howling, Joshua had a strange urge to howl with them, but quickly suppressed the urge as that would instantly give him away.

The hunt had begun and he could see with his enhanced Direwolf eyesight at least a dozen wolves spread out within his field of view.

Joshua first checks his surroundings warily for any sight of the alpha, but comes up empty.

No Alpha in sight.

'Good. The Alpha must be in another area.'

With peace of mind that he would not have to confront the red wolf, Joshua focuses on the wolf closest to him.

The wolf was able to find a group of Yabans that did not have a Horned Yaban guarding them.

It tortured the group by circling around them and playfully growling at them. The wolf was not in a rush to end his night just yet.

The Yabans could not leave even though they knew they have been found out and just lays there whimpering.

They knew that one of them was going to die tonight.

Finally the wolf has had enough fun for tonight just decides to swiftly kill one randomly and begins to drag its body towards the forest in Joshua's direction.

There is an obvious look of anger on Joshua's face watching all this happen. Even though Josh is no longer a Yaban he still has a soft spot for them in his heart.

'I'm definitely going to kill this bastard.'

Joshua waits for the the wolf to walk closer the bush that Joshua is hiding in.

As the wolf got closer and closer to the bush it noticed that something was off and stops for a moment dropping the corpse on the ground and looks around curiously.

Wolves have a good sense of smell and at first it was covered by the thick stench of blood coming off the corpse of the Yaban, but as the wolf neared the bush it could faintly smell the scent of another wolf nearby.
