Chapter 5 - Classes and training

"Is there anything else I can help you with?" Aiwin asked me.

Thinking for a moment I decided it would be a good idea to check out the training area so I said "Could you point me in the direction of the training area?"

Aiwin smiled and said "The training area is in the underground floor. Just take the stairs down there." She pointed in the direction of stairs going down, which I didn't realize were there before.

I thanked her for her help and made my way down to the training area. Walking down the stairs until I arrived at a door named "Training Area" I entered and saw a wide space with stone walls all around. It was easily as big as 3 football fields.

The field was divided into different parts some with what looked like wooden dummies or target signs. There were people training different weapons and even fucking magic. As soon as I focused on someone training with a bow a message popped up in my head.

Huh? I can unlock classes simply by looking at someone training said class? That's fucking awesome! And overpowered as fuck! Shit! I'm really some kind of OP MC, am I not?

Well, now it's easy to decide what to do. Capture all the classes! So for the next half an hour I walked around all the people training and received all possible classes. Unfortunately, all of them were level 0 so I still needed to train for myself. I got lucky and even saw someone heal someone else so I even got the healer class. Thankfully the interface of my status didn't show each and every class unlocked but grouped them together. If I wanted to know more I needed to concentrate on one category. I'd fucking hate seeing a long list with all classes.

Name: Rolas Arley

Race: Half-Elf-Orc

Titles: Traveler

Job: Versatile

Class 1: Warrior Level 0

Class 2: Unarmed Combatist Level 0

Class 3: Spearman Level 0

Racials: Wisdom of the Ancestors, Elfen Flexibility, Orcish Strength, Orcish Libido

Perks: Unlimited Inventory, Secondary Class, Third Class

Unlocked Classes: Melee Classes, Ranged Classes, Mage Classes, Support Classes

After I got all the classes possible at the moment I decided it was time to train. Since I never even fought in my old life and was just fucking around on my computer all day I deemed it a good idea to get a trainer. I walked over to the part were the melee training part was and asked the guild worker there.

"Hello, I'd like to have a trainer for my Spearmanship if possible." I said to him.

He looked me over and smiled "Oh, a beginner right? Do you know that you only gain a basic level through training? If you want to level up, you need to fight monsters in the dungeon or outside."

I smiled and said "Thanks for the information but I mainly want to learn the basics of how to wield a spear." I gratefully filed the Information about leveling away.

He nodded his approval and said "Smart move. It's already late afternoon so you can only train for another hour. The spearman trainer is free at the moment. It will cost you one silver for one hour."

I handed him the silver coin and he pointed out a man with a spear in his hand "That's Nutru, he's our spearmanship trainer. Just tell him to train you and hand over this token so he knows you paid already."

I received the wooden token and walked up to a big orc with a long spear in his hand.

"Are you Nutru? My name is Rolas, I'd like to learn some basics in spearmanship for an hour." I said while handing him the token.

He took the token and looked me over "Hmm newbie and half-orc at least, right? Grab one of the training spears over there and I'll show you the basics. You should get more knowledge from your class once you begin to level so until then it's better to just train the basic moves."

I looked over the wooden spears and pulled one out. Nutru then first showed me how to correctly hold the spear with two hands and said "While it is possible to wield a spear in one hand unless you plan to wield a shield in the other and only stab and slash, it is much better to wield a spear with two hands."

I mirrored how he was holding his spear and he nodded and said "Now this is the basic spear form. It's neither offensive nor defensive. This form is best if you don't know whether you're on the offense or defense in a fight."

He then showed me the offensive and defensive forms and said "Remember, not only the grip on your spear is important but also the position of your body. Depending on how you position your feet you either lose or get to fight from the beginning."

For the next half an hour we went through the basic attack moves like stabbing and slashing. After getting a handle on the basic moves he went on with the defensive moves.

"Now for how to defend attacks with a spear. First of all. Never! Never let anyone reach close to you. The main advantage of the spear is it's extended reach. So advance and retreat with that in mind." He said while showing me how to move forward, backward, and to the sides, while keeping a defensive form.

"With a spear, the best idea is to parry an attack. Blocking is much more difficult and there is the possibility that your spear will break. So unless you got a high-grade spear try not to block. And remember to use the whole length of the spear. It is there for a reason."

For the last hour, he showed me how to parry by letting me attack and attacking himself. I learned a lot about how to use a spear. Of course, I wasn't stupid enough to think that I was anything else than the basic of the basic beginner.

Once we finished with the training I got a surprise from my system.

Once those notices were displayed I felt myself grow stronger a little bit. I also stopped breathing as hard as I was a few seconds before. It also felt like I trained the basic spear forms a lot more than I did. This must be a bonus from leveling a class and gaining passive skills. Yeah, I could get used to this feeling.

After saying goodbye to Nutru I left the Dungeon Divers Guild and made my way back to the Inn. It was time to eat dinner and go to sleep. My first day in this new world was really exhausting.
