Chapter 7 - A Village (2)

The village was fairly well fortified as far as Gordan could tell but The bear like creature would have little trouble disabling such defences, in short unless they had someone of rather high caliber then the man would have little trouble fallowing through with his statement.

Gordan looked over at Leech to see how this turn of events affected him. Leech looked like he was about to faint or throw up but Gordan couldn't tell which.

"What is that beast called, do you know?

Gordan whispered to the child to take his mind off the hopelessness of the situation. The reason that Gordan had asked this particular question was becouse he felt like he recognized the beast but he had never had the best memory when it came to dredging up things that he had known about purely in the form of information.

The boy took a moment to react to the question since it had taken him off guard, he blinked twice and then looked between the beast and Gordan. After opening and closing his mouth several times Leech calmed down and answered the question.

"it's a boar-bear"

Gordans mood lightened alittle after hearing that name, it was one that he knew rather well. It was the animal that he after all felt the most kinship toward, though he had only read about it, and that had been a very long time ago.

"A boar-bear you say?"

Leech didn't understand why it was that Gordans voice sounded so odd, it was almost like it had gone up alittle bit in pitch. He nodded and looked back at Gordan which he regretted emedeatly.

"Y-yes that's what I sai... that's wrong with your face?"

Gordan instinctively put his hand over his mouth and let out a sigh.

"Its nothing to worry about, just remembering something that's all... By the way do you want to know something interesting about boar-bears?"

Gordan quickly steered the conversation away from the look that had crossed over his face it was one that he avoided at all cost since it was the second most disturbing of the expressions that he made, it was a smile. He had on fifteen separate occasions smiled, those around him found it so disgusting that the former king had actually made a law that prevented him from smiling under any circumstance.

Leech felt like he was going to die slowly after seeing the gleam that had come into Gordan's eyes, it was like a monster staring down its next victim. His lips had crept up to expose his rather sharp teeth, in Leeches eyes it looked quite ghoulish in nature and was glad that he had a aided answering his question in a more direct way and had instead changed the flow of conversation with a question.

"N-nno, what is it?"

Leech looked at Goardan expectingly waiting for the answer of his question, but Gordan could see the fear in the child's eyes, he desided to ignore it since it was understandable and he was quite used to that reaction to most of the faces that he could make which was why he avoided showing emotion, but seeing an animal that he had done extensive research on and had wanted to see for years had made him smile without thinking.

He wondered if Gordan had a rather depressing life, Leech didn't want to even think about the possibilities of what might have happened to come up with an adult like this, one that could however only wonder.

Gordan rubbed his jaw to loosen it. He waited a respectable amount of time for the kid to calm down before he continued.

"Anyway, boar-bears are formadable foes in terms of strength, but there are very few of them in the world. The reason for this is becouse they are weak to a certain creature, if they happen to consume said creature or even be bitten by the creature they die."

Leech looked at Gordan with eyes filled with disbelief.

"What in the world is this creature? And how will we find one in less than an hour"

Gordan stopped himself from smiling, for some reason it was hard to do so at this point in time and he was beginning to wonder if he was going tipsy from blood loss.

"No need to look far we actually have quite a few with us at the moment"

It took Leech several moments to understand what it was that he was talking about, and then realization dawned on him and he looked to the bag on his shoulder.

"You dont mean?"

Gordan nodded his head confirming his suspicions.

"Now all we have to do is find out how to get one of those things into its system, after that I assume that your people should be able to deal with mister fallower over there."

Gordan gestured toward the man in the robe that had sat down on a rock and placed an hour glass in front of him. Leech thought deeply about this but Gordan just took the snake from around his neck and began tinkering with it.

After ten minutes Leech gave up and started pulling at his hair, he needed to come up with a solution or else his mother was as good as dead. He looked over to Gordan and had to cover his mouth with his hands to prevent crying out in horror.

Gordan had used the ten minutes to pull out a couple of the snakes scales and drive them into its skin, forming three holes that he was able to insert his fingers into turning the dead snake into a puppet of sorts. The reason that Leech had been so terrified was becouse Gordan had been testing out the bite strength next to his face so it looked like he was being attacked by a snake.

Once Leech had calmed down he looked at Gorsan with questioning eyes, but Gordan just avoided his gaze.

"Not my best work but without a knife it will have to do. Now then one of the little demons if you don't mind."

Gordan held out his left hand so that he wouldn't have to directly touch the leech that Leech gladly handed over. Gordan took the leech and handed Leech the snake and a sharp rock that he had picked up.

"While I'm fixing up this do you think you could take the head off this thing for me, it would be alittle annoying to try to take out that thing while dragging the whole body behind me don't you think?"

He said it so matter-o-factly that all Leech could do was nod and take the snake and began removing the head.

Turning back to his work Gordan smashed the leech into a pile of goop and frowned in disgust. He knew that he would have to be careful in case the creature was immune to the pathogen that the leeches contained. He was aware that the person that owned the creature was most likely fully aware of its weaknesses. Keeping this in mind Gordan bit into his hand causing it to bleed. he took the blood and mixed it with the leech remains, this method made the pathogen spread at an increased rate and could kill a boar-bear in as short as thirty seconds depending on how the creature received the mixture.

Once they had both finished Gordan estimated that they had about fifteen minutes until the boar-bear attacked. Gordan was planning to sneak up to the bear and deliver a leathal blow as stealthily as he could in his current state and then let the others finish off the man. However things rarely go as planned, and as he was getting ready to attack two young boys who looked to be about the same age as Leech jumped out of the bushes yelling and ran at the boar-bear with reckless abandon.
