FUMIKO kept on pestering Selene about what she just said earlier. Well, apparently, to stop Fumiko from mocking her sweetest smile of the day, she told Fumiko about Reiji.
"You found your long lost bestfriend? Are you sure he is really your bestfriend?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, he's a man, Selene." Fumiko said bluntly. "He could be your boyfriend."
"Oh, come on, Fumiko. Bestfriends don't fall for each other." Selene defended her clarification.
"Might as well change that belief, Selene. There's nothing impossible with love…"
On the other hand, Fumiko seems right.
Selene's mind was misty with Fumiko's evocation all throughout the day. Is it possible for bestfriends to fall in love with each other?
Evening came, it was dark and fuzzy when she arrived home. Her mother, Mrs. Benzaiten, wearing a navy blue long-sleeved night gown with an embroidery of silver patches, assembled an aura of opulent beauty and high-standard dignity despite of her old age, is waiting at their veranda.
"Don't even think that I'll let you pass this time for arriving late, Selene." Instead of receiving her gratefully, Mrs. Benzaiten threatened her with an authoritative tone. "You should be responsible enough to come home before evening, Selene! It's not ethical for a woman wondering alone at night!"
Here comes her mannered mother, reprimanding her about human morality again.
"Get inside. Your father was also waiting for you."
They both entered their mansion. Selene saw her father sitting at their soft sofa, while reading an issue of newspaper.
"Hey dad…"
"You're late, my daughter." Her father said calmly, but there's a hint of fret.
"Yeah, and it's not good for you to arrive late, Selene." Mrs. Benzaiten skeptically imparted.
D*mn, she was tired of it! She's a grown-up woman for pete's sake.
"Mom, dad, I'm not a child anymore. I can take care of myself."
"Do you think I didn't notice the last time that you brought a man outside our mansion?" Mrs. Benzaiten crossed her arms as she glared at Selene with suspecting glance. "I saw you and him through our CCTV cameras."
D*mn their securities.
Yeah, probably she remembered the times when Reiji gave her a ride home.
"Mom, don't worry about him~"
"Tell me, Selene! Who was he?" Selene was surprised as her mother exclaimed at her. Like Mrs. Benzaiten was losing her patience.
Selene profoundly sighed before responding. "The man I've been with was Reiji Tsukiyomi, mother."
Unfortunately, Mrs. Benzaiten took a step back, looking at her disapprovingly. "Did you just said Reiji Tsukiyomi?"
"Yeah, my long lost bestfriend. I found him again after fourteen years."
Mr. and Mrs. Benzaiten stood at their feet with paled faces, their jaws completely dropped. They turned to look at each other like they were communicating through their sight. Then, they faced her again.
What's going on with her parents?
Is there something wrong with Reiji?
"Selene…" her dad broke their silence. "We already had a deal that you will not entertain men without our permission."
Yeah, that sh*tting deal. She wanted to slapped herself for approving that kind of agreement. Well, it was long before she met Reiji once again.
"Dad, Reiji's my bestfriend."
"And you should stay away from him!" Mrs. Benzaiten retorted. "I forbid you for seeing him again."
Selene stared at her mother contemptuously. "Why would I stay away from him, mother? Now that we got together again?" she scornfully argued. "I've been waiting for him for almost fourteen years and yet, you told me to stay away from him? That's ridiculous!"
"You must follow my order, Selene. It's for your own good!"
"No, mother! It's not for my own good." Selene opposed the requisition of her mother. "I won't let Reiji be parted from me. I can't bear to lose him again. Not now, not ever!"
Mrs. Benzaiten bursted with anger. Thanks to her dad, he was able to stop her mother from hurting her. "How disrespectful of you to raise your voice at me!" Mrs. Benzaiten unbelievably yelled at her. "That man will not bring you any good. He will cause you danger, Selene!"
"Danger? Mom, he's my protection! He protected me since our childhood! Did you ever forget the time he saved me from drowning in the river at Garden of Blossoms, fourteen years ago?"
"That's why you need to leave him. It's because of that, Selene."
"I can't understand you, mom. Why are you so triggered to separate us again?"
"Selene, someday you'll understand why I'm doing this."
