"HOW come you're also here, Reiji?"
"I don't know, Selene. I just felt like I needed to be here after work. I didn't expect you to be here either."
"Do you think it's destiny?"
"I do so."
They are both sitting on the grassy ground, with Selene being enveloped by Reiji from behind. She was resting against his chest, feeling his warm body pressed to her. His arms are both covering her, like he's shielding her tenderly.
It was like heaven, as they melt in each other. The cold starry night was being trounced by the sincerities of their hearts as if they were talking. Selene could feel his heartbeat, and she was sure he is either feeling hers.
On the other angle, they really looked like a loving couple, holding each other…
"May I ask, why did you come here? It's not safe for you to go outside at this hour…" Reiji placed his chin on her shoulder as she felt his breath.
"I've been distressed, Reiji. I can't move along with some things being left without answers…" Selene explained. Sadness consumed her heart, knowing that for now, she can't understand the important matters happening in her life. "That's why I came here, to clear my mind and be in peace."
His grip to her became constricted, she suddenly felt his tension. "Selene, we're on the same boat. There are things in my life that I couldn't believe challenges me…manipulating me for no reason."
"What do you mean?" Selene forced herself to look unto his face. She was so fervent to hear his elucidation. "Who manipulates you?"
"Selene…" he looked away. "In this life, we're both victims."
She was stunned.
Victims. Yes, she surely believed it. What happened in the past embodies the present.
Now, she supposed, the world is too cruel to make them suffer.
However, she was glad to accept the fact that they will withstand each other, no matter how the world despised them.
"Anyway, I forgot to ask you. Where do you work today?"
Thank Reiji, for changing the topic of their conversation. She was so frustrated earlier, that's why she wanted to take a break.
"I'm a writer, Reiji. At Katashi Publishing House."
"That's great!" he enthusiastically praised her. "Is it a romance novel?"
She nodded.
"I do really like to read romance novels. They tamed me faultlessly." Reiji then chuckled which she laughed at.
"Oh, the famous heartrob was being tamed by novels? How cute." Selene teases him. But then, she was dazed, seeing him blushed.
He timidly scratched his head as he shyly stole glances at her. "If it's okay with you, can I read yours?"
"I haven't finished it yet." Selene then lowered her head, not partially meeting his gaze. "I have a hard time working on it."
Reiji caught her cheeks with his palms. He made her face him as their eyes met. "Do you want me to help you?"
"Come on, Reiji." Selene spurt in laughter, thinking what he just said. "I believe you also had a hard time writing literacies right?"
He rolled his eyes. D*mn his pride. "It depends on the topic, Selene."
"It is a tragic romance, Reiji." She exculpated. "I've been writing a romance novel with a sad ending."
Reiji arched his brow. "Why do you choose a sad ending?"
"I didn't believe in happy endings either."
He flinched at her thought. "May I know the title of your novel?"
"Love Between Different Paths." Yeah, she really entitled it like that.
Why?
Because paths don't across without love.
