"I'M waiting for someone else."
That's it.
The words she didn't expect to hear from him.
"Is that so?" Selene looked away uncomfortably. Her world completely became dusky as his declaration scrambled inside her mind, like her light suddenly stolen by downcast. "You must have loved her very much. To think you could wait for her."
Reiji took a deep breath. Looks like he felt her unanticipated change of mood. "I would really do. But I think we're being played by destiny."
Selene didn't expect her cheeks to become wet with tears. D*mn it, was she crying?
F*ck it, she's totally dumb with her jealousy.
As Reiji saw her teary-eyed, he became worried. "Selene, why are you crying? Did I say something wrong?"
She quickly wiped the tears from her cheeks with her palm. "A-ah, nothing. Hehehe…" she pretended to be okay even in fact, she was hurting because there's someone already claiming his heart. "I'm just happy for you. You already found the one suited to be with you forever."
Nevertheless, Reiji didn't look convinced with her explanation. Instead, he took her hand and brought her outside the café which she certainly didn't anticipate to happen.
"H-hey wait! Reiji, what are you doing?" she complained as they reached the door and exited there.
Reiji continued to walk while holding her hand, as they arrived at the parking lot, into his car.
"Reiji, we're not even finished~"
Before she could end her sentence, he turned to face her and covered her with his strong arms, hugging her very tight. She was caught-off guard.
"Reiji…"
"Selene, I…" he stopped for a moment, like his voice was taken away.
Selene could feel his hot breath against the crook of her neck. He was breathing rapidly, his heart was beating too fast, and she could almost sense his nervousness on her chest.
"Reiji, calm down…" she tapped his shoulder, trying to make him pacified. His embrace to her became firm, his body shaking involuntarily.
"Selene…" he turned to look at her face, his eyes filled with mixed emotions. She was being ingested by his galvanic stare, like she's getting drunk every second passes. "I…"
She was waiting for him to talk straightly. She saw him swallowed a large lump to clear his throat.
"Reiji, I already told you to calm down. What are you afraid of?" her arms wrapped against him as she returned him a relieving embrace. Lately, his tremble stopped.
Reiji's cold palm covered her cheeks as he continued to gaze upon her. She was anxious of his sudden change of pace, yet she assumed there's something bothering him.
"Selene, I love you."
Her eyes widened with his bemusement. "W-What? What did you just said?" she can't believe what she just heard that's why she wanted him to repeat to make it clearer.
"Selene, if you think I would leave you for another girl, you're mistaken. The one I told you whom I was waiting for was the right woman for me. Through these years, I kept on asking my fate, when will I meet her? Or did I already met her and we were just played by destiny?"
"Maybe fate will lead me to be with her on the right time. But now, I have no one else to be with, but only you, Selene."
"I platonically love you, Selene. You're the only woman who stayed and never leave me even though I left you alone for fourteen years. You deserved to be loved, my dear. Despite the fact that I'm not the right man for you, I always will."
Selene couldn't explain her overflowing feelings. She doesn't know if she would feel euphoric or nostalgic with the words he said. She was happy to hear that he was waiting for the love of his life to come and he doesn't have any woman in his life, for now. Yet, she was sad to know that he only felt platonic towards her.
D*mn, was she expecting him to have more deep feelings for her?
Dreamed of, Selene. Keep on dreaming the impossible. She scolded her idiocy.
In spite of all of that, she was contented with the idea that he loved her as a friend. But then, she wished it would be more.
The next day, while she was working at her desk, she couldn't help but to smile as she remembered the moment she was with Reiji.
Her workmate, Fumiko Hideko, a woman of her age who always wear pony-tail, have thin yet curvy body and simple, noticed her. "Why so happy, Ms. Selene Benzaiten?"
