THE aroma inside the Midnight Café really soothes Selene's mind. The place was really made for relaxation. It was quiet an ideal site to think about positivity instead of negativity. Plus, the workers are pleasant as they serve the customers.
She was enjoying her order, the best-selling product of the café, the Strawberry Crème Frappuccino when she remembered what happened before she left the Katashi Publishing House. The memory of her conversation with her boss, Ken, made her taste bitterly even though the flavor of her drink was sweetened.
She didn't expect for him to confess to her. Well, honestly, she's not blind that he had the guts to like her since she felt him treating her specially over her workmates. She thought it might be a joke because he's eye-catching to girls, and yet he declared to her his feelings.
D*mn, can she be more realistic? She's not his type of girl! How can she be suited for him?
"Looks like you're thinking too much huh?"
Selene was startled when someone interrupted her complexity. She was ready to slapped the person when she realized, it was Reiji.
"Oh my goodness!"
"I thought you're going to slap me for real…" Reiji laughed as he protected himself from her precipitous reaction. He then sat beside her.
She rolled her eyes before sighing. "Come on, Reiji. You know I'm not fond of surprises."
"Why? Aren't you surprised when I came back?" he curiously asked. She was not expecting him to unpreparedly question her regarding that sensitive topic.
She couldn't blame him. He was a man, full of mystery.
"Probably, that's a different perspective, Reiji." She plainly answered. Selene doesn't want to elaborate her answers about their topic since his question was beyond her uncertain expectation.
Reiji remained silent, and she assumed he felt her becoming uncomfortable. That's why she chose to bring their conversation into an interesting one.
"So, aren't you going to order your drink?"
"I already ordered at the counter before I came to see you." As she was about to say something, a waitress arrived at their table and placed his Mocha Caramel Frappuccino together with two sliced black forest cake in front of them.
Selene incredibly looked at him with playful eyes. "I didn't expect you to give me such a thing."
"You're precious to me, Selene. Everything doesn't matter to me unless it's about you."
D*mn, her bestfriend is really something.
"Come on, Reiji. Stop teasing me! You're so cheezy…" Selene pretended to be unaffected and she found a way to hide her true feelings.
Truthfully, she blushed.
"Why? Can't I be cheezy with my dearest friend?" Reiji took a bit of the cake. He chewed it indulgently, like he's tempting her.
Her body, without warning, quiver due to his mischievous action. It was like actively burned with something related between passion and precipice. She didn't know that kind of feeling which she never felt to anyone.
Except to Reiji.
For Pete's sake, she's his bestfriend.
But why was she acting weird?
"Have a bite?"
She was awakened from her unmeasured daytime fantasies when Reiji offered her his spoon with a piece of cake. It was already waiting for her to open her mouth.
Gahd, how could she ever desire her handsome slash flirty bestfriend? Or should she say best man? A friend always stays as a friend!
"Reiji, I'm not a child anymore~"
"Selene, just say 'ah'."
She doesn't have any choice. Reiji insisted, she sighed in defeat.
Instead of arguing with him, she opened her mouth to accept his offer. Like accepting the idea of going through the complicated journey with her bestfriend, Reiji Tsukiyomi.
Just go with the flow, Selene. Let tomorrow worries itself.
