"What do you mean by calling you now? Can't I call you at this time? Don't tell me that you are busy. Since when did you start to be busy for your friends Sammy?"
"I'm not busy you dumbo. I asked because I thought that you would be on your way to the hospital with Anaya."
"Hey, my shift starts at ten, you idiot. I already told you."
"So, just because your shift starts at ten, you let go of the chance to spend time with Anaya?"
"Oh shit! Why didn't I think of that??" Dheer smacked his head.
"Because you are an idiot. Let Elisa shove some sense in you. I'll call her right away to tell her how her student wasted this golden opportunity to be with Anaya."
"Hey, don't. I'll not make this mistake again. The last time wounds are still not healed yet" Dheer pleaded.
"Hello! Hello!!! Damn Sam, you dared to hang up on me, he cursed but then shuddered at the thought of Elisa torturing him again.
Yes, Elisa was a very good friend of him but ever since that day, when he ruined her plans with Anaya by hugging Anshika, she had been mad with him and often tortured him if he ever let go of a chance to be close to Anaya.
'Sigh... Such a weird friend I have.' he shook his head.
*****New life hospital*****
"Good morning Dr. Anaya."
"Good morning sister Marie. Are my appointments scheduled for today?"
"Yes, Dr. Anaya. They are all scheduled."
"Let's get started for today then."
As Anaya was on her way back from her rounds, her gaze landed on a person sitting on a bench outside the pediatric department. She furrowed her brows when she recognized the person.
'Isn't he the husband of the lady that I delivered a few months back.'. Anaya recognized him because the case was complicated and the lady had twins which made it even more complicated. The patient's husband was very loving towards his wife and was against this pregnancy when Anaya told them about the complications and risks. But the wife insisted on delivering the babies causing a huge debate between them in her cabin when they came for a routine checkup. Later the husband couldn't go against his wife and agreed for it when the wife threatened him with her life. It caused quite a ruckus at that time.
She quite liked the couple and the way David took care of his wife after that day really touched her.
"Mr. David, what happened? Why are you here?" Anaya asked as she walked towards him. She was sure the babies were healthy at the time of the delivery. And he wouldn't be here if the kids were having minor health problems and would have visited the doctor near their place, as they lived quite far from the hospital.
"Hello, Dr. Anaya. Don't worry my kids are fine. I'm accompanying my friend this time. His twelve-year-old kid was detected with some heart problem six months back and the doctor advised him for heart transplantation. But the donor, which finally matched him bailed out at the last moment so my friend is currently talking with the doctor."
"Did you ask the donor or his family why they bailed out. I mean if the reason is not big, you can persuade them and see if they change their mind. After all, a life is on line and their family will get to keep their loved one's heart beating even after his departure." Anaya suggested.
"We thought of the same but the donor couldn't be reached anymore. Perhaps they changed the contact number that they provided. They recently moved out of the city and their new address is not registered either" sighed David. He was feeling bad for his friend and his son.
Anaya felt bad for them. At the same time, something bothered her. Maybe this was a simple case, but all the illegal things going in the hospital made her suspicious and she just couldn't ignore this matter. She had a feeling that this was the work of those criminals.
"Is that the kid's reports in your hands? Can I have a look" Anaya asked David.
"Yes, these are his latest reports which were taken prior to his scheduled surgery." David handed her the reports.
Anaya went through the reports once and frowned. The reports made her even more suspicious. Just as she expected, the kid wasn't in the dire need of surgery and had enough time to wait for another donor and wouldn't lose the battle with life anytime soon. It was just that there will be some complications in the surgery later and it was best to have this surgery as early as possible to avoid those complications.
"I didn't expect to run to Dr. Anaya here at this time" came the voice of Dr. Shah from behind as she handed the reports back to David.
