Dr. Shah was a man in his late forties and country's most renowned cardiologist and was considered the best in the field. So, it was not odd that he worked in the New life hospital, the best in the country.
"Good morning Dr. Shah" Anaya greeted with a smile.
"When I heard that you joined the hospital I wanted to come and greet you but I got quite busy. I'm glad to cross your path here. Back then, I thought I would meet you in the operation table as my trainee but... Anyway I'm glad to see you here. I hope to see you reach the pinnacle of your field girl. Just be a good person that you are and do your job firmly."
Anaya gave him a sad smile. He was her idol, the person she looked up to, her role model. Ever since she got admitted to the medical college, her dream was to work under him and to surpass him and be the best cardiologist in the country. If only that incident back then hadn't ensued.... She shrugged off those concealed memories before they encompassed her once again and replied "I didn't expect it either Dr. Shah."
"It's really unfortunate to miss upon such a great student. You should have chosen our department back then." he sighed. "I can see you are quite famous with your patients" he praised her.
"You're speaking too highly of me doctor. I'm just doing my...."
"Good morning Dr. Shah. I was about to come to your cabin. Oh! Dr. Anaya is here too. Good morning Dr. Anaya." their conversation was interrupted by the person who just walked out of the cabin behind them.
"Good morning Dr. Veer." Both greeted simultaneously.
Dr. Veer was the pediatrician in the hospital. A man was accompanying him as he came out of his cabin
"My assistant mentioned that you asked for my help and I had some free time so I thought I'd as well visit you" Dr. Shah said.
"Now that you're here let's talk in the cabin" Dr. Veer said to Dr. Shah.
Dr. Shah turned to Anaya and said "why don't you join us, Dr. Anaya? I see that you just finished your rounds and would have some spare time for this case."
Anaya nodded and followed them to Dr. Veer's cabin as she could see it was the case she was just talking about with David. She had to find about the case properly to come to a conclusion.
****Inside the cabin******
".....and that's the whole story. So the patient's family now wants to know about his condition and what to do next. As I'm not an expert in the cardiology department I wanted you to look at the patient's condition and talk to his family, that's why I was asking for your help." Dr. Veer explained the whole situation.
"But, he had this surgery scheduled today with one of my juniors right? Why didn't you ask them? They are my students and equally qualified." asked Dr. Shah.
"Yes, but the patient's family asked for you. That's why when I got to know that you had some free time I called for you" Dr. Veer replied.
Dr. Shah nodded and took a look at the patient's file. After going through the patient's file Dr. Shah raised an eyebrow and turned to Anaya. "What do you think of the case Dr. Anaya. Wasn't it the file you were looking over earlier."
"Dr. Shah, I'm sorry but you may have mistaken her. She's from the gynecology department, not from cardiology department." Dr. Veer stated.
"I know, Dr. Veer, but don't judge her by her young look. She's quite talented and on par with my students here and would have surpassed me if she had opted for out department in her post graduation."
"I didn't know that. You have hidden your talent from us quite well Dr. Anaya. If not for Dr. Shah I wouldn't have known." Dr. Veer turned to Anaya.
Anaya smiled and said "Dr. Shah is just flattering me, Dr. Veer. I just helped him on his thesis during my under graduation."
"And those papers that you reviewed were better than all my other post graduated students. You still ditched me and chose that mad woman as your mentor. Hmph!!"
Anaya felt a twinge of pain in her heart as those memories begin to resurface once again but was disturbed by Dr. Shah's voice again.
