Chapter 24 - The Phoenix Effect (PT 2)

Aaron looked between the glowing elder and the eye. "I assume it is the eye on the alter talking through the elder? Either way, my questions have not been answered."

"Yes that is correct. To answer your questions. They are performing a coming of life ceremony. The alter is basically my lifeline. As for what I am, I was created as a protector and a new god."

"Tell me then 'new god' why the hell are your grimey claw marks on my daughter!?" Aaron's rage flared again. His voice booming, causing everything to shake. The villagers fell to their knees in fear and the beam of light from the eye to the elder faded in and out as it shook.

"Please calm your anger. As I stated before, I noticed the aura of my master and searched for it. Those masks and just residual energy from the search. It will cause no harm." The eye was trying appease and calm Aaron down.

Aaron just glared at the eye for a few moments before taking deep breaths to calm down. All the while, the glow was getting dimmer and dimmer, but deeper shades of dark red, black and blood red. Almost like it was being condensed.

Outside of existence, the dark blue crystal is now half of the size when it first encased the sun.

'Ding'

'Mission update: Transform this cult or destroy the Tangs.'

Aaron just "glanced" at the notification before grinning and laughing softly. To the eye the laugh reminded it of it's master, to the villagers however, it was the laughter of a freed devil. They crawled further away from him in fear.

Aaron was grinning and now laughing loudly like a lunatic as he stared at the eye. The eye however, was no longer having the good feelings about it's master. It cut the link to the elder and put up walls of purple fire and blood. It's pupil was as small as a needle.

Aaron held out his right hand as a claw, palm facing up, his left hand flat with the palm facing down. A dark red ball of flame grew in the middle of his right hand above the palm, while a blood red spear formed under his left.

The ball grew to about a foot while the spear grew to 7 feet. After grabbing the spear his figure flashed as he arrived in front of the walls. He stabbed the spear into the walls. The spear shattered upon impact, causing the eye to be shocked before having a gloating look to it.

A second later cracks started to form on the walls, spreading the entirety walls in the blink of an eye. They shattered in the next blink. The shards floated in the air for a moment before flying into the ball, causing it to grow another foot.

Another flash and Aaron appeared in front of the eye. "Regardless of your motives or intentions, you've gone past my bottom line. And for that, I have decided to destroy you. But fret not, I will make a replacement that will continue to protect the village." After speaking, he jabbed the ball into the pupil.

Screams resounded in the minds of everyone present. The villagers watched in horror, while Aaron was calm, as the eye burned to ash from the inside. A purple light flashed towarda the elder, but Aaron caught it. It was a tiny version of the eye. He unhesitantly crushed the eye.

With the eye crushed, the screaming stopped. All of the villagers were terrified. They have basically entrusted their hearts to the eye to protect, it would siphon some blood from the hearts to empower itself. But with it gone, what was going to happen to them? To their hearts that still lay on the alter?

'Warning! User is not in control. Emotions are stable. Method to regain control unknown!'

Aaron once again made a dark red ball of flame, he then rested it upon the alter, were the eye used to be. It absorbed the remains of the eye, the previous ball of flame, and little bit of purple flame that remained. Aaron waved his hands over the alter, causing it to transform. He decided to have a little fun with it, and made it look like the Tower of Sauron from Lord of the Rings.

As the alter was transforming, the hearts turned ethereal and flew back to their owners. All of the villagers stared in fear and relief. Relieved that they weren't going to die with the eye, but fear for what this man had planned for then.
