Chapter 23 - The Phoenix Effect (PT 1)

The elder, eye, and Aaron all stared at each other for a moment. In this moment the villagers turned to look at him, the baby started wailing, and the blood stopped flowing up to the eye.

"What are you doing here?" the elder finally said, his voice ladened with anger and annoyance. The eye's pupil narrowed as Aaron's glow intensified.

Without saying anything, he waved his hand again, causing an invisible wind blade, beheading at least 3 of the villagers and nearly beheading a 4th.

Hearts around the alter burst into a blood mist. The mist went directly into the eye. This caused the eye to go bloodshot, but instead of red, it was purple. If one could see the inner workings of the eye, they'd see that the blood absorbed was fed to a purple flame. And it was this flame that filled the "veins" of the eye.

After killing the few villagers, the glow around him dimmed, and was more ethereal. At the same time, outaide existence, the blue crystal was shrinking around the sun. It was clearly suppressing it.

'Warning! User is under control of the sun. User please regain control of your emotions.'

Aaron stopped in his tracks. He held his head as pain started to assult him. The excruciating pain caused him to scream. The scream caused the heads of most of the villagers near him to explode.

At this sight, many of the villagers backed behind the alter, some even started praying. The elder's eyes narrowed as he started to move towards him. A ray of purple light hit the back of the elder's head, causing him to turn and look at the eye on the alter.

The elder just nodded to the eye and took his wife to stand behind the alter.

Aaron finally stop screaming as the pain faded. in the eyes of the villagers and elder he was just standing there holding his head. His eyes looked vacant. All the while he was having a metaphorical battle with the dark red sun. His will was battling against the intense emotions.

He was only able to regain a little bit of clarity. It allowed him to realize what he just did, almost sending him back under control of the dark red sun.

Watching all of this outside of existence, the evil system just sighs, 'This is going to be one hell of a ride. I still don't understand why you chose some like him to be my representative.'

With the suppression of the sun from the blue crystal, Aaron's will finally took back control. The anger and rage were still there, just in a cage.

He let his arms fall to his side as he took in the all the blood, gore, and bodies. The sight of the beating hearts on the alter, the eye in the center of the alter, and finally, all the villagers behind the alter. His sight settled on the elder.

"Now, while I am still somewhat in control of my emotions. What the hell did you do to my daughter?!" He said through gritted teeth. His voice was deep, raspy, laidened with hatred and the desire to kill.

The elder looked at the group of villagers behind him, scanning each face. Find each face with confusion and fear. He then turned back to Aaron. "None of us have done anything to your child. Nor have I or my wife even gotten close to the room."

Aaron shifted his eyes to the eye. "And do you think I would believe that when there is an alter with the same claws as the marks on my daughter? Do you take me FOR AN IDIOT!?" Aaron yelled that last part as his glow intensified.

'Warning! User losing control. Please reign in User's anger.'

Aaron took a deep breath at the subsystem's warning. His glow dimming. "Tell me what you are doing, what is that alter, and what is that eye?"

The elder looked at the eye. That same purple ray hit the elder. This time however, his eyes dimmed and he slouched over. A slight purple glow came from the elder as he straightened, his eyes turned purple. "I apologize for touching your daughter. I had noticed a similar aura of my master from both of you. I searched for the source. I didn't find it on her, so I went to search you. I was unable to even touch your skin. There was no harm done to her." the elder explained as he bowed.
