Chapter 20 - A funny feeling.

[AN: I apologize for time between this chapter and the previous, a bit of writers block and desire to read more of other novels. I also noticed I write more dialog than anything else, so I tried something different with this chapter. How was it?]

Aaron and Ritz followed the elder to his house. It was the oldest out of the 10 buildings. A lot smaller as well.

At the side of the house was door, like one into a basement or celler. But it newer, or at least well maintained. It had a stone frame and the doors themselves were reinforced with metal. There were several chains criss-crossing the door.

At the center was a heavy lock. It went through the chains and the handles. The caller reminded Aaron of a bank vault due to the high security.

He had seen similar cellers on all the houses, but only this one was locked up. He was curious, but since he was only going to stay there for night he pushed it to the back of his mind.

The elder led them inside. "I know its smaller than the rest, but it's only me and my wife, we never needed much space. The spare room is at the end of the hallway on the right." he said as he pointed to the hallway.

The room they entered seemed to be a living and dining room. There was a small table and a fireplace with a pot above it. The smell of stew came wafting from the pot.

There was an elderly woman stirring the pot, it was safe to assume she was the elder's wife. She had a strange dress on. There was a symbol made of a bleeding eye surrounded by a flaming circle on the back.

"That is an interesting symbol. In my years as a merchant, I haven't seen anything like it." Aaron commented.

The elder's eyes narrowed, but return to normal before anyone noticed. "Ah, my wife is from wilds, it was a wedding gift from her mother, its one of the few that remain of her."

It was at this moment the woman turned to face them. While she wasn't at Ritz's level of beauty, you could tell that she was a beauty in her prime. And despite the signs of age, she seems young, at least compared to her husband.

There was a bit of hesitation in the wife's eyes before she nodded to her husband's words. And immediately turned her attention back to the pot.

Aaron's eyes flashed green before returning to normal. This a scanning ability, he never really used it before except in the training area. He hasn't felt threat from anyone or thing he's ran into. Well, besides the poison when he first got to this world.

'Well. this is surprising. System, what does it mean that his soul is 900?' Aaron asked.

Ding

'Replying to User. It means the soul within that body is around 900 years.'

A curious expression rose on Aaron's face. "Thank you for the room, we'll go and rest now." he said as he took Ritz's hand and started walking to the room.

"Oh almost forgot, don't go out after sunset. Its just a precaution. All of the villagers, aside from the guards, follow the rule as well." said the elder as he smiled at the two.

After entering the room and closing the door, Aaron set up a simple isolation array. "Don't leave the room without me. I have a bad feeling about this place. Especially the village elder." he told Ritz, to which she just nodded.
