Chapter 21 - The bump in the night

---Outside of existence---

"Oh! He's reached one of the seeds planted by his predecessor. I wonder if you'll pass his tests or be consumed."

"..."

"Yes yes, I know. I am not focusing on him, the subsystem sends me a notice if he finds anything related to his predecessors. After all, its you that want them to be hidden from him. This was from the third one I think, so there isnt much danger. Besides, isnt anything related the two before him erased from existence?"

". . ."

"Oh? Can't be erased? Well then. I'm going to stop here, I've learned from my peers and my own predecessors. Looking into the truth about you and that sun, I can do without. After all, there I cannot scheme, or overpower you, to take you position, heck the space and time systems can't do anything to you. I'm the Evil system, I am several leagues below those two, even if I can manipulate them."

". . ."

---Back in the village---

Aaron set up various arrays, defence, isolation, gravity, etcetera. He made sure that they would be protected from whatever was giving him that bad feeling.

'Hmm... It just dawned on me, but making these arrays, and the one in Zhul are so different. While making small arrays, even if they are on a different level than the one in Zhul, they don't require materials, just the runes. Hey system, why is that?'

'Replying to User. Arrays within this world's system are just an arrangement of runes to gather and direct the power of the world. However, larger arrays require some kind of link among the parts. Method for the link varies and in reality could be as simple as being carved on wood from the same tree. Previously you used a runic circle array, which will link the same runic circles that are within a certain distance. All of this information is available from the memories of Germal.'

'Ugh seriously? So I have been curious over something I should have known all the long.'

Sigh 'Oh well.'

"Okay, that should be enough. I don't know what is going on here, but these should be enough. Let us sleep and be off in the morning. I'd rather get away from here as soon as possible." Aaron told Ritz.

Ritz nodded, then squirmed for a little bit, holding onto the hem of her skirt and looking down. She steeled her eyes, and clenched her fists as she looked up at her father. "Daddy. Umm..." she said before closing her mouth.

Aaron looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "What is it?"

This just caused Ritz to fidget, temporarily losing the confidence she had mustered. "Uhh. Umm..." she stammered before finding her confidence again. "Could we sleep together?" she finally asked with blush.

Aaron's jaw drop, he stared stunned at her. It took a few second before he collected himself. "You're my daughter! I will not do that kind of act with you. I will only do that with your mother." he reprimand her. His face showed anger, but if you looked into his eyes, you could see fear. 'There is no way I am going to sleep with her, she's what. 14? 16? Either way it's way too early for that, and I am her father! Well this body is, but that doesnt change anything!'

"But daddy... we did it all the time when I was younger." she said as she pouted. It would be an understatement to say she was adorable. "We haven't done it since mom died."

"Oh... thats what you meant. Uh sure honey." he replied as he rubbed his hands and look down in shame.

"Yay! Thank you daddy!" Ritz just said with a huge smile as she gave him a big hug, then went to lay down. She was so excited, its like a girls first sleep over with her friends. So he figures she's probably not going to sleep any time soon.

Both of them eventually fell asleep as they lay on the same bed.

Aaron's eyes shot open as he immediately looked around the room. He was awoken to the feeling of immediate danger. It was one of the arrays.

He couldnt find anything within the room, and the arrays were still in place. He couldnt see which one was activated from the bed. He turned to check on Ritz.

She was safe and sleeping soundly hugging his arm. But there was a nagging feeling that something was wrong. So he removed the covers, and his eyes narrowed at what he saw.

Ritz was covered with claw prints. They looked like bruises or necrotic damage. Dark blue, almost black in color.

While everything seemed somewhat peaceful in the room, inside Aaron's soul, or rather outside existence. The dark red sun, which has been dim and quiet, is now a raging inferno.
