Audrey tried to be engrossed with the view outside the window as she tried hard to ignore the existence of her new classmate. She's usually not like this but then she thought that she must have woken up at the wrong side of the bed this morning.
She knew that she was lucky enough to study at such a big university. She's aware that not everyone can get inside such a school and that's one of the reasons why she doesn't want to get distracted with such silly things like getting a boyfriend or such. It's clear to her that her goal right now is to study hard, get into college with high remarks, repay her parents' hardships, and be someone else in the business industry. For her, boys are just huge distractions.
She thought that the day would go on with a mere announcement of a new student but when she heard what Miss Devon said she realized that she was referring to the seat behind her for it was the only one that was not occupied, it then awakened her back to her senses.
"Alright. You can sit at that empty chair at the back." Their teacher said as she arranged her study materials for the day.
Aiden passed beside Audrey and damn. Audrey thought that his perfume just made her heart stop for a moment for it smells so good. It smells so good that it's hypnotizing. It's as if her brain stopped processing other elements other than his entrancing spell. He just left a track of scent that seemed to slowly immobilize everyone who victimized it. Some of my classmates seemed to have already fallen for this guy with just the perfume itself. This guy seemed dangerous.
Classes went on well. Though it's just the first day there's a lot of studying to do already. Since it's still an hour till their next class, Audrey thought of using the opportunity to make an itinerary for an advanced study since handouts have already been given to them that'll tackle the whole semester. She's a studious type of person who enjoys the smell of books inside the library.
As expected, Aiden is like a shiny new toy to everyone. Everyone is so excited to talk to him, be friends with him, and hang out with him. Everyone started to surround him. Kylie is one of them.
Since he's just sitting near her it annoys her so much that she can't even concentrate on doing her itinerary. Most of her classmates asked him questions about where he used to study, where he lives, and what his hobbies are but one question seemed to capture her attention and so she decided to secretly listen to the small commotion behind her.
"Is it a girl that you were looking for?" Audrey heard her girl classmate ask.
"Yes. You're right." Aiden answered truthfully as he tried to accommodate every one of his classmate's inquisitiveness.
"Is she your girlfriend?"
"What does she look like?"
"What kind of girl is she?"
"Do you have a photo of her?"
Questions seemed to have flooded right after Aiden answered that one question. Clever enough, he answered the question just like a celebrity making his answer even more interesting than the question itself.
"She's the most precious person to me in the entire world. She'll always remain as someone who is beautiful, pure, and innocent in mind wherever she is right now."
Somehow it saddens Audrey to hear those words. Curiosity seemed to have intrigued her so she remained listening to what they were talking about.
"You said that you're looking for her right? Did you lose her?" It's Kylie who asked.
"She was separated from me and I couldn't do anything about it. The next thing I know she's already gone."
"You must love her.", a curious classmate said.
"More than I can say."
The girls in the class seemed to have their hearts melted with Aiden's confession. Some of the boys felt his sympathy.
"She's so lucky." One of their classmates said. Well, that's what everyone thought so too. Just having someone being viewed that way must really be good.
"She's lucky and lucky at the same time."
"Why would you say that? Your selfless love for her sounds amazing." Kylie exclaimed.
"It wasn't selfless love. It was my selfishness that parted the two of us." Aiden paused as if looking for the right words to describe how he felt. So, he added, "I am someone who she'll hate for the rest of her life if she finds out what I have done. I don't think what I feel for her alone is strong enough for her to forgive me."
Audrey felt her heart break for some reason. She paused for a moment and felt something fell right of her cheeks. When she touched her face, she noticed that she was unknowingly shedding tears. Surprised as she is, she went immediately towards the restroom before anyone noticed.
She's glad that no one else is occupying the area so she poured some cold water on her face believing that it could stop her foolishness. She asked herself what was wrong. Like why is she crying right after hearing something devastating from a stranger?
Audrey saw her reflection in the mirror in front of her and told herself that Aiden had nothing to do with her lost past for what he said didn't add up to her missing memory. She also made herself understand the fact that doesn't need to be this affected. Everyone that she needed to remember was already told to her by her parents.
They helped her remember everyone who she gets acquainted with including her relatives, previous classmates, friends, and everyone who seemed to have had mattered to her. They even showed her childhood diary that was salvaged from the said fire that seemed to have burned her memories along with it. With all the doctor appointments and photos shown to her, still she can't remember a thing.
With all the thoughts running inside her head, it still bothers her about her new classmate Aiden. There's just something about him that is not right.
