There really are some people who are really not good at being surprised and one them is no other than Audrey. She was already spooked out when somebody spoke of the blue but when she saw that it was Aiden who's in front of her, she was so surprised that she tumbled backwards at the floor hitting one of the shelves with her back.
Talk about being caught red-handed, Audrey felt as if she's caught doing something inappropriate. It almost made her feel as if she's really guilty of charge about it.
"Are you okay? I'm sorry it seems that I have frightened you." Aiden stood up offering her a hand to help her stand up.
Audrey looked up at Aiden and there she realized how beautiful his eyes were again. She stared at them for a couple of seconds before she apprehended that she's still slumped down on the floor like some lost kitten.
She took Aiden's hand with her left hand. She stood up and was about to thank him for the help but then again, another disaster took place.
"Thanks. Oh God! Oompf!"
Instead of standing properly after taking Aiden's hand, she inattentively pushed him down making him lose his balance that made them fall off the floor.
"That was dangerous." Aiden said realizing that they almost bumped at the vase displayed at the corner near the window.
With Audrey's eyes closed, she thought that she's dreaming. She thought that she had fallen on something warm and comfortable after having such a bad fall. It feels so good that it's somehow making her want to stay just like this. She thinks that it's such a wonderful dream. But when she opened her eyes, she was so perplexed as her mind immediately processed that she's not dreaming that she's really on someone else's arms!
Aiden caught her fast in his arms protecting her head with his right hand above it for he knows that there is a vase just right behind him that might fall if the worst-case scenario might happen. He sighed deeply in contemplation after knowing that he didn't hit it.
Audrey found herself on top of Aiden being wrapped in his arms with her head lying on his chest with her hand placed above it. She swiftly stood up embarrassed after her mind absorbed that they are both on a really awkward position back there.
"Uh---." She tried talking after unconsciously covering half of her face with her hand trying to hide her embarrassment.
"Your hair is messed up." Aiden said.
"Huh?"
Aiden gently touched Audrey's hair as he tries to put them back nicely. "You're clumsy."
Audrey felt as if time had slowed down for the moment. She never thought that having your hair being arranged feels good. She goes to salons from time to time to have her long hair trimmed but she never thought that something unexplainable like this is pleasant to her. He touches her as if she's kind of fragile treasure. The way he pets her head afterwards is very reassuring.
Embarrassed enough, Audrey slightly swayed Aiden's hand away and said, "I-I know I'm clumsy! I think being one is my nature."
"Be careful next time then." He smiled sweetly.
"Stop smiling so pretty!"
"What do you mean?" He asked as he gave her another sweet smile pretending that he doesn't know what she means.
"N-never mind! Why are you here anyway? I really thought that you were some kind of ghost who just popped out."
"I need a book here and saw you blocking the aisle where I needed to go. I don't want to surprise you if I just walked right pass you for you seemed so serious thinking about something. So, I decided to utter a word but I ended up frightening you in the end. I'm sorry" He apologetically said as he picks up Audrey's scattered things on the floor.
When he finished picking Audrey's stuff. He handed them over to her as gave specifically Kyle's letter by hand.
"Here. Take good care of your love letter too. Other people might read that you know."
"Thanks. But this is not a love letter." She took her stuff and tucked Kyle's letter inside her notebook again. "Anyways, let's just forget this happened okay? This is all just…embarrassing." She said as she went to the nearest table to put the books she'd gathered.
Aiden stubbornly followed her and decided to sit at the chair in front of Audrey as if teasing her. "I don't think I might be able to forget it that easily though."
"Oh, please this is one of the reasons why boys are such huge distractions. Instead of me starting reading one of the books I've took I'll start ending up talking to you." She sat on the chair besides her.
"Kyle was it? Is he your boyfriend?"
"What? No. If you are interested in my life it is not as interesting as yours Mr. Aiden. I'm not looking for someone who I've lost due to my own negligence."
"So, you're listening to us earlier?" He gave a smirk knowing that Audrey seemed to be interested in his life.
"I didn't mean to eavesdrop. You were just sitting behind me so it's only natural if I overheard your conversations. You're just…noisy."
"Have you ever lost someone in your life?" He asked.
"I guess I have. I lost my old self seven years ago."
Aiden felt a deep sentiment coming towards her. So, he asked, "Did you lose your memories?"
"Well let's not talk about that. It's nothing interesting like what I've said. My life is…"
Aiden cut her sentence and said, "Nothing interesting like mine? Really? Well I overheard what your friend said about you being distracted about me. Sounds interesting don't you think?"
Audrey grunted and said, "Since it seemed that you have so many 'time' in your hands why don't you start to try reading one of theses books instead?" She pointed at the books scattered on the table.
"Thank you for your invitation Ms. Audrey. I'll gladly start reading now."
"How did you know my name?"
Audrey can't remember telling him his name. She's not even wearing her school ID. Kylie didn't even mention her name inside the classroom because they tend to call each other with funny names like Juju Bear, Sleepy Munchkin and Freakzilla. It's silly but calling each other like that is like having a daily dose of happiness every day. Still, she wonders how Aiden knows her name.
