Chapter 8 - I want more of them

After a long hour, Kyra finally came out of her sociology class. Professor Denver was a real slow man with a balding shiny head and a pot belly. Also, half the time in class, when he had to explain something, he would always pause for a dramatic effect thinking this can be really a good way to teach but it felt so annoying that at one time, Kyra felt like banging her head on the theatre style classroom table.

Finally, she was saved by Greg who was in the same class and sat beside with her. Greg was a handsome guy with sparkling white teeth and smile of a million dollar with baby blue eyes and sandy brown hair and completed with a physique that can make any one drool. He made some funny comments on Professor Denver which made her chuckle time to time and kept her engaged or she was sure to bang her head.

"Oh. My. God! That was really such a torture. I felt like my head was going to roll down the path Denver was crossing if I had to stay more time than what we spend there. It feels good that it's still intact." Greg held his head and neck checking for it. Kyra laughed, "Well, you are being dramatic too. But you are right."

"Girl, it's my right to be dramatic. Otherwise, the world would be such a boring place." Greg fanned himself with his hand and rolled his eyes and Kyra laughed.

They walked through the big stone path that connected the buildings from the administration main office to sociology building, economics building and the Robert Burretta observation. These buildings were in west of the campus while it was a long way to reach cafeteria which was at the South of campus surrounded by trees and small show plants on the side.

This University was big and vast but it had a feeling of peace with trees on the green patches of field on which the big stone paths are made. It was the start of fall but the air was still a little warm. There were students who were walking in small groups or some prefered to walk solo but it was not at all uncomfortable. At the front left side of the frat house was also in the western side of the campus, there a big space ground.

Kyra and Greg met Danna and Alicia for lunch break in the cafeteria. All four of them sat on a round table of cafeteria with their foods in front of them. Kyra was starving so she immediately started eating.

"Hey! I need to ask you something." Danna suddenly said excitedly turning towards her with a smile that told that she knew something, they didn't.

"And what's that?" Kyra popped some chicken nuggets in her mouth and went for her coke.

"Do you have anything going on with The Xavier Ralston?" Danna asked, her voice dripping of the smell of gossip juice. She was loud enough to catch the attention of the every nearby table and they were all now starting at Kyra.

But when Kyra heard the question, she literally spewed out her mixture of coke and chicken nuggets from her mouth.

Eh. Eew!

Kyra surrendered herself into the fit of cough while Alicia and Greg handed her water and tissues. Danna was patting her back smoothly to calm her. After few moments, she finally came down. "I'm sorry. I guess that was too sudden." Danna looked apologetic but her eyes were shining with amusement and her lips were twitching a smile which she was trying hard to suppress. Of course, they were still waiting for Kyra to answer Danna's question. It's just the people in nearby tables turned their heads from their table when they saw the spewing action. Not a very grateful way.

"So...", Greg scooted further to the table and folded his hands, his usually handsome features were filled with anticipation. What Kyra didn't understand was why were they so concerned about Xavier? Of course, she felt he's a very nice guy and he helped her many times and also that he—god knows for what reasons—makes her heart beat like crazy but there was nothing between them. They only talk because they are friends.

Yeah, right.

"What is it? We are just friends and nothing else. You don't have to get serious over nothing." Kyra again grabbed some chicken nuggets and put it in her mouth. Were they even friends? She doesn't know even that! And here they are asking her whether she has something going on. What the world has come to?

"Over nothing? Girl, it's everything. Xavier is everything." Greg informed like it's the most important information and Kyra was a dumb here.

"Of course when it's comes to Xavier, everything is serious. Xavier is a serious matter here." Danna agreed. "He never—and I mean never talks to girls. And even if it ever happens, it's always for other 'purposes'. And he was laughing, talking and chatting with you; that's really really rare."

"But we are just friends. So what if we are talking, it's not like other girls would want to even 'talk' in his presence. They would mostly prefer the other 'purposes' to begin with." Kyra replied rolling her eyes. "And with looks like him, talking will be the last thing in women's minds." She muttered the last part.

"That's true but Xavier is a different person. You don't know because you're not from here." Greg said while stealing some nuggets from Kyra's plate.

Kyra frowned, "Hey, you are also a freshman here, how come you know so much about this?"

Greg smirked, "Girl, I have my ways and sources."

Kyra still wasn't aware what was so wrong with her and Xavier being friends. It's just, as normal as it can be between two friends. It's good to have friends like that. She missed this small talk, funny banters on topics that doesn't matter.

But she still doesn't know what went wrong that time. And now, being here she felt how much she missed these interactions in last 5 years. She wanted more of them. More of these funny talks in topicless things. She loved the way Greg was being funny with his non sensible talks or how Alicia was the quiet one but still held Greg by his neck as in choking him or how Danna was laughing her head off looking at the scene unfolding in front of us. A little carefree attitude and a little more fun.

Kyra was sure she could cross this hurdle without any problem.
