Chapter 3 - Lunch date.

Kajol leaned back in her office chair, the glow of her computer screen reflecting in her thoughtful eyes. The day's workload had blurred into a monotonous hum. One thing stood out in sharp relief, Shah Rukh's lunch invitation. A small almost involuntary smiled played on her lips. She'd been surprised, to say the least when he had called. Their interaction at the dinner was undeniably flirtatious, but she assumed it was a fleeting spark, a momentary distraction. Now it seemed he was intent on fanning those embers.

She looked at her wrist watch, seeing it was almost 5 o'clock she decided to head home. The sun was beginning to set she decided to go spend some time with her mother who hadn't been in good health recently and the divorce had taken a toll on her too.

She left her office heading straight to her car at the parking lot where her driver Rahul was waiting for her and they went home.

On their way home she noticed the sun painting the buildings in hues of orange and gold. It was a beautiful view, one she usually found solace while in her office alone but today she decided to go home early. Her thoughts drifted elsewhere, Shah Rukh, the name itself carried a certain weight, a blend of intrigue and a touch of caution.

He was successful and undeniably attractive. But he was also married. A fact that hovered at the back of her head, a quiet warning. She'd been down the road of complicated relationships before. The wreckage of her divorce was still fresh, a raw reminder of the pain that could come from blurred lines and broken promises. She'd vowed to protect herself, build a life on her own terms, free from entanglements of messy affairs.

The front door clicked shut behind Kajol. She kicked off her shoes, the weariness of the day settling deep into her bones. She walked towards her parlor a small smile settling on her face as she saw her mother lying on the sofa. " How are you, what did the doctor say today?" Her mum sighed " He actually told me that am showing signs of improvement, I wouldn't be needing the pacemaker inserted".

"That's good news mum, am happy for that" Kajol added. "Where's Meera?"

"She is in the kitchen preparing dinner " mum replied just then Meera came out of the kitchen plates in hand ready to set the table. Kajol went to her room freshened up and came down for dinner. She later went to bed after checking on documents that her assistant Anya had sent her.

Kajol reached her office and was on her way to a meeting when Shah Rukh texted her that he was excited about their lunch date. Kajol considered her options. She could politely decline, maintain a professional distance and avoid the complications all together. But her rebellious nature wanted to go for the Lunch. She sighed as she entered the boardroom willing herself to not be distracted by Shah Rukh.

Kajol walked into the restaurant smoothing a stray strand of hair away from her face,a subtle flutter of nerves rippling her tummy. She had worn a black simple but elegant dress that was also sophisticated. She wanted to project confidence and control. She wore bright red lipstick to boost her feminine energy.

As she looked around, Shah Rukh was already sat at a table waiting for her. He stood up as she approached, his charming dimple smile on display "Kajol you look breathtaking", he said his eyes lingering a moment longer on her blossom.

"Thank you Shah Rukh you look dashing" Kajol said while Shah Rukh pulled up a chair for her. They say down and ordered their drinks and food. As they talked, Kajol found herself relaxing and the air around them felt charged. The waiter was back with their food which was a welcome distraction from the tension that crackled between them.

As they talked Kajol liked his wit while Shah Rukh was fascinated with her sense of humor which he kinda liked. He thought that would be something he would look forward to when meeting her again. They fell into comfortable conversation they talked about business and the conversation soon drifted to other things like art, travels and old movies. Kajol found herself laughing genuinely laughing without a care in the world in a way she hadn't in months. They spoke for hours until the conversation lulled for a moment, a comfortable silence settling between them.

Kajol found herself studying Shah Rukh's face his fine lines around his eyes taking in his sparse beard. He really was a handsome man , intelligent and ambitious which matched her own in equal measure.

"You're staring, like what you see" Kajol was startled from her reverie. They both chuckled but Kajol's cheeks were red from embarrassment of being caught. And just like that they went back to talking about business. A passion which both of them shared but beneath all that they both felt the undeniable chemistry they shared but tried so hard to avoid talking about it. They spoke for hours but they had to part ways to go home because the sun had already set.
