Chapter 2 - The Deal

AIDEN POV

A lot of people think I am many things. Head of Hendrix International Holdings, a company that I hope to rise to the next level.

Many think I own the largest shares across the other corporation and in some way, I like to think that they are correct.

However, beneath the mind of this billionaire lays a young man at the point of depression.

As I stared down at the phone on the table, I recall the exact words of my father after our conversation on the phone.

'Either you get yourself a wife or you risk loosing the Chinese investors'

Where do I get a woman?

I have never been the type to indulge with young women and it is not because I am busy, I simply care less about them.

Checking the wristwatch, I realize the day is half gone and settled into working the documents my secretary had brought to my desk earlier.

"What is this nonsense?"

I rose to my feet, fuming at the mismatch on the record sales book.

The numbers did not add up and this figures infuriates me.

I reach out to my cell phone and dialed the head of the account department.

"Hello sir" Her voice lightening up after I picked the phone.

"How dare you bring a wrong sale records to my desk?" My tone calm, but dangerous at the same time.

"I..I am sorry sir. I don't understand" She stuttered with her words, knowingly trying to be cautious after my comment.

"You brought a mismatch record sales book and the numbers don't even add up"

"I am sorry sir. I will tell the young workers to fix it immediately," She replied, but I could smell the fear underneath her voice.

"You don't need to tell them anything," I said, reaching out to the drawer and pulling out envelopes "Tell them to come to the office and receive their contract termination"

"But sir....!"

I hang up the phone before her annoying voice will make my temper flare out.

Dropping back on the couch, I closed my eyes and take a few deep breaths recovering when a soft hitting knock came through the door.

"Who is that?" I asked, still trying to calm my nerve from the incident that has just happened.

The door opens and Millie the secretary walks inside the office with her head down.

"I am sorry to disturb you sir. There is a young woman outside that wants to see you."

A young woman?

I could not recall expecting anyone in this particular period.

"Tell her to come in." I ordered, waving my hand in dismissal.

Not long after the secretary left, the door opens once again and a young woman walks inside.

Approaching my table, I could see the anger in her eyes and it only made me question who she was.

"Care to explain this madness?" She asked, dropping a paper on my table.

"What are you talking about? Who are you?" I asked, looking back and forth at the document and the woman.

"Keep acting like you don't know what I am talking about!" I am taken aback by the rise in the tone of her voice.

"Listen young lady, it is obvious you are one of these attention seekers. I want you to leave my office at once!"

"No! I am not leaving your office until you answer for what you did to me." She said, pointing to the document on the table.

Curious, I grabbed the document and skimmed through the content.

"A marriage certificate with my signature?" I observed with disbelief.

"You ruined my life with this certificate! My marriage was called off because of this certificate you sent to the church."

The more she explained, the more confused I became.

"Look, I don't have a clue about everything you are talking about. This is the first time I am seeing you."

From the scowl on her face, she did not seem to buy my words and it made it more frustrating.

"Maybe you can take this explanation to my family" She dropped to the couch, placing her hand on her head and she begins to sob.

The emotions written all over her demeanor was concerning and for the first time in a while, I was drawn to her. For the first time, I noticed her attire and the smudge on her face. In a way I could not explain, I became drawn to her.

"Tell me everything that happened." I said, trying to be soft spoken.

The young lady begins to narrate her experience and the more she proceed into the story, the more I felt drawn to her.

"What is your name?" I asked, once she is done with her story.

"Sofia Lanchester" She replied, wiping away her tears.

As she wipe away her tears, I look back to the marriage certificate on the table and an idea came to mind.

"You no longer have a place to stay right?" I ask her and she nodded her head.

"Here is my offer to you then." I sat upright and look into her mesmerizing eyes for the first time. "How about we make this marriage certificate a reality?"

"Excuse me?"

"The marriage certificate claims that we are already married. Let us make it real, I want you to be my wife." I explain to her, but the look on her face showed me she did not seem interested in the offer.

"I haven't gotten over the fact that I did not get married to my fiancée. I cannot get married to you because I barely know you."

Her reasons were logical, but I needed her to comply.

"A hundred million dollar," I offer to her. " I am going to pay you after you comply and then we go our separate ways."

Her eyes held so many thoughts that I could not recognize. Her breath seem to be calm but the repetitive tap on the table showed me that she was anxious.

"If you don't want to take the offer, you can leave." I mentioned and return back to the other document.

"I will take the offer." Her comment made me look up at her and her eyes showed determination.

"I have nothing to loose anymore," She added with a shrug. "If this is what I need to get back to my feet, then so be it."
