Chapter 18 - Trouble Knocking 1

Weeks flew by in a jiffy, and the day before the awaited moment of Emmanuel's departure came by. He was to leave for the university the next day. He had already resigned from his work with Mr's Amarachi and had collected his salary. Originally, he already the had the sum of twenty thousand naira which was given to him by his dad to buy the necessities for his stay at school. But the money wouldn't have been enough to buy as much things as he wanted to buy and so he added another sum of thirty thousand naira to it to ensure it was enough. This thirty thousand naira was a part of the salary he was paid by Mrs Amarachi. It wasn't that he planned on spending money recklessly or stuffs like that, but that he felt it would be reasonable to buy a lot of food items and ingredient so as to ensure even if he ran out of funds in school, he would still be able to at least feed of to two square meal a day.

Not wanting to disturb his parent, he decided that this trip should be a solo one. Once his parent went out, he immediately hopped into the bathroom and took a cool refreshing bathe. Once done, he brushed his teeth and put on an old flashy Gucci clothe of his. It was a pair, a shirt and a trouser. As soon as he was done with that, he immediately sprayed a bit of perfume on his body to ensure he had a nice aroma embedded on him. It was only after confirmation that e was well dressed and that he wasn't forgetting anything that he finally decided leave the house and begin his journey.

The market he was to go to this time wasn't the one his mom was in. Instead, it was a market that was actually a lot more farther than the one Favour shop was in, and so it was bound to cost a lot more money to get to it.

The market in question goes by the name Arena market. Though it was a weird name for the market, but then the market couldn't be underestimated for such a thing. It was a big market, and the main focus product in the market were cloths, footwears etc. Markets in Nigeria are usually known for a particular signature item that is more likely to attract customers to it. Just like the signature item for Arena market was cloths, the signature item for Iyana ejibo are food items and beverages.

On getting to the market, he was greeted with the site of a large environment with so many building. The environment had a busy atmosphere with a lot of people either just walking forward while scanning the area with their eyes as if looking for something. And then there are also the ones in the process of bargaining with the traders. There also of course existed the traders who were either bargaining with their customers or looking to see whether they could snatch customers.

Emmanuel on getting in first scanned the environment. His eyes scanned through the various shops and squats that were visible. Though this wasn't really any serious move as he didn't plan on buying from any of them. Even though he saw the main things he came to purchase, he knew that the items and things at the outer part of the market were a lot likely to be more expensive than things at the innermost layers.

After a bit of looking around, he directly walked towards the core areas of the market. As he walked, he would occasionally be stopped by some traders who ran to his front trying to coerce him into buying what they had to offer, but Emmanuel of course respectfully declined them.

" Wrist watch, Wrist watch, buy your wrist watch " A young man who looked to be slightly above the age of Emmanuel shouted continuously. He was dressed like a tout, and even from his voice, one could tell that he was someone who constantly took hard drugs. As he shouted, his eyes was actually moving around looking for who he would try to coerce into buying. His eyes currently had a dark light in them, and clear hints of anger could be seen within them. This was due to the fact that he had yet to make even a single sales for the day, and so he had yet to have any meal for the day.

As he continued his yells, his eyes flashed by the area still looking for who he could coerce. He needed a meek target that he could easily intimidate into buying his items incase the coercion failed. Suddenly, his eyes flashed by Emmanuel.
